    Mine came with the 10", 300w peak front-firing sub. The sub can over-power the speakers, but some tuning on frequency ranges to carry what the speakers shouldn't be pushed hard to do, and leveling out sub/speaker crossover to be friendly to the speakers has allowed me to push more power, whilst keeping the sound crisp has worked well with my Onkyo TX-NR818. I have set a volume limiter on the amplifier to protect the speakers as well, as this particular amp can push about 180w into these 8 Ohm. Speakers. I found these speaker aren't overly sensitive, but the tight suspension, and undistorted sound reproduction trade-off is an exception. It took me a break-in period, and a lot of careful equalizer tuning to get these speakers sounding sweet, and matching the sub as mentioned. For music they are great, and for movies, ok if you don't want too much low frequency annoying people across the street. Two packs will give a nice 9.2 setup, and for better powerful, and room balance kick in bass reproduction, I am driving two subs (always have.) These satellite speakers I have mounted to cheap DJ tripods with straight bolts cut to size. They are 50w nominal power, and 200w peak. Any good amplifier will drive them, but overkill is recommended to retain headway for lower THD levels.

      If it weren't for comments like these, videos like this would be completely useless to people like me who need actual technical information.

    • @Shaker4x4
      @Shaker4x4 Před 2 lety +1

      @@johncaccioppo1142 Hint: push your sub further away in the settings by another 1.5m or as desired. This will pull into timing the sub's low frequency lag with the satellites. Remember also if you select sub reverse, to set your amplifier to sub 180°. If your amplifier doesn't have that feature (most do now) leave it at 0° normal. The equaliser on these is tricky both for the sub and the satellites. Push your mids down. The EQ is not like tuning large tower speakers to a sub. My amp is set at -6 to +6. I set them at -6, -2, -5, 4, -3, -3, +1 (7-band EQ). Sub -6, -5, -4, 0, +2 (5-band EQ). Adjust EQ and levels to taste and room. I would likely tweek it from those settings, as not all amplifiers are the same. It's a general idea for you.

      I kind of put myself in a difficult situation because these speakers were so cheap I couldn't NOT buy them, lol. Only now, I need a real amp and don't want to spend a ton of money.
      Any suggestions for a decent 5.1 amp that accepts USB in the $3-700 range?
      I'm really out of the loop, I haven't shopped for an amp in like 40 years... I've got a ton of variables with my other music and computer gear and I need to do a lot more research.

      Go with A Yamaha class D. It'll keep your power bill down and most people can't tell the difference between a class AB to a class D which most of them are now. Your prices for amps differ to what I would pay here, but definitely look at a Yamaha. Stay away from Denon.

    These look just like the Klipsch Quintet V speaker set, except for the copper woofer - how much better are these Reference Theater ones?

    • @Shaker4x4
      @Shaker4x4 Před 4 lety +1

      Read the specs. This generation has IMG woofers, which are lighter, and more rigid. It's the same material used in larger reference towers. Whilst I have no comparison to go by, tgey are good little performers when tuned in correctly, including crossover properly with the sub. One review I read said they lack the 'depth' of larger speakers, but that depends on where you live. Do you want to respect your neighbours, ond how much can you afford? I recommend these only with an amp that has equalizer, and frequency control. At minimum small speaker setting, treble, and bass controls.

    • @Shaker4x4
      @Shaker4x4 Před 4 lety +1

      I wouldn't waste money on these trying to reproduce audio from a PC, unless you have a very good sound card, or USB DAC to an amplifier, or digital output to a receiver with DAC built-in (most do.) So media, process, source, amplification, sound reproduction. How would you like to degrade this chain, having not more than above average expectations from these speakers with the wire you choose??? Remember too, a sub is mean't to carry the low-end for these speakers below 110Hz. How you set up is as per room configuration, amplifier, and audio preferences. It's a real fiddle with these to get them right. At higher power, I find with having happy medium in equalization, turning down treble a couple tones them back to comfortable listening. Because they are small, and tight, you have to expect them to perform differently at low, and high power levels. For the most part, try to find that happy medium settings at moderate power levels helps. I'm running an Onkyo TX-NR818 7.2. These speakers are not flat. They are very different to tune than what I was used to having tower speaker previously, especially the sub!
