I was thinking about doing a video reviewing the Sonos Amp and some Klipsch tower speakers as a stand alone 2.0 system. What do you think? Let’s get to 100 subscribers and I’ll do it!?
Thank you to everyone that has commented and/or subscribed! I’m excited to share that the Sonos + Klipsch video will be dropping tonight, enjoy!
First, there is no such thing as a copper spun woofers - they are not annodized aluminum either. They age IMG ( injection molded graphite ) painted gold.
The cat has the Klipsch colors. Great review!
Cool setup. This is exactly kind of review that I’m looking for and finally found it. Thank you.
It’s crazy how this video kicked off my home theater journey. I just wanna say thank you because after I got these it really got me into the hobby and I’ve long since moved on to better gear but you can’t forget about how it all started of course, great video 👍🏿
Looks cool. I’m getting a Klipsch set up when I have my own house. Currently running a JBL Soundbar 5.1 with detachable speakers. But I’ve always wanted a Klipsch set up. Nice vid!
4 years later and I just ordered this for $280, throw in a pair of larger bookshelf speakers from Klipsch as well for $130. 5.1.2 set up for just over $400!
It’s really reassuring hearing you talking about how well these performed/exceed expectations especially in such a big/open room. Great video!
Do you need a receiver for the speakers or can it just plug into say the tv and work? I’m new to the sound world lol
@@Percival2644 You need a reciever, if you look at the description while buying these they say receiver is needed.
I’m pretty excited I just ordered klipsch reference theater pack paired with a Denon avr 3500h. I’ve only had sound bars so I’m expecting this to be a huge improvement.
Congrats on the purchase, that’s awesome! This will have a much better sound stage. Soundbars have their uses, but I think you’ll be happy with the upgrade!
A Denon 3500H?
That AVR is WAAAaaay overkill for a HTIB even if it's a Klipsch offering!
Funny! I keep a banana and a cat in my man cave too. Good video.
Just bough this b4 I came n watch ur video! Love ur cat!
I purchased this 5th generation Quintet 5.1ch pack with 300w peak 10" front firing sub running off a large Onkyo, class AB TX-NR818 A/V receiver. I did find the speakers had a break-in period, where it was difficult to find their equalizer sweet spot. Because the speakers are only as low as 110Hz, I crossed the sub at 120Hz. Tuning down low frequencies a little in the speakers, and allowing the sub to do the heavy lifting, I was able to pull much more mid, to high range clarity out of them. Of course the sub needed tuning as well to take over what these speakers should not be forced to do. For the first month, getting these speakers with less midrange discomfort was a bit difficult. But once you have them tuned, they are not what a couple of reviews say they are. You have to spend time with them to get them set right, and really appreciate getting the most out of them. I do find I definately need that second sub, and as my receiver is 7.2 with Aux out expansion to 9.2, I'm going to grab another speaker pack the same. They are impressive little beasts, that don't see justice from average amplifiers. One review I read said they were a bit flat in the mid-range. I'm not having that problem. They can be too bright in the mid-range, and need to be pulled down from making your ears bleed, but not too much. They are very temperamental to set right, but once you get there with them, not bad at all!
Shaker4x4
How did you tuned them ? I want to get these speakers but I’m not familiar with how to make adjustments. Thank you much appreciated if you answered
I purchased this Klipsch set a couple weeks ago and need some guidance on the wireless sub settings...I have a Denon AVR-S750H receiver and am trying to figure out where is the sweet spot for the subwoofer settings?
would pin connectors work for wiring the speakers with 16 gauge wire?
Is this overkill for desktop computer setup? If so, what are some good desktop speakers?
Great video. Can you please tell me where you bought the wall mounts for the speakers?
Hi, can anyone recommend some nice wall mounting brackets for these speakers? Im trying to hide the wires with the wall mounts as much as possible. Thanks!
Thank you for the review. Do you think a Sony STRDH590 is a good paring?
I'm looking for the mounts you used. I just bought the same speaker system and paired it with a Sony STRDH590 5.2 Channel 4K HDR AV Receiver. I know very very little about any of it, besides connecting the wires. I hope my receiver choice is both compatible? and correct? Thanks for your help!
Great 👍 video. Very nice setup you got going. What type of speaker wall mounts do you use ? Do you have a link ? Have you tried connecting 2 Subs to see how it sounds ?
Just grabbed this from Costco for $299 great simple and thorough review💪🏾💪🏾
How you like them ?
@@jaylenyoung5108 man the sound is unbelievable, I really enjoy them💪🏾💪🏾
Just bought this system. What's the best way of connecting this to the projector?
What mounts did you go with especially the center I have the same ones
I bought this set, its a great set, Very vocal. But it lacks a little in the front main speaker in my 15x 20 media room maybe because its sits on the ground. Im thinking to add a in wall 5 inch speaker by Klipsch.
Awesome home theater room! I just ordered the same system with a onkyo tx-nr686 can’t wait to get it set up
How is it going with the system ?
Guacho I only had it for 2 weeks returned it and bought a full klipsch reference premiere set had that for a few months and sold it all now I have Svs ultras lol
@@danemoreno88
Experimentation & subsequent upgrades get EXPENSIVE! I know all too well... SVS IS KING FOR VALUE PERFORMANCE!
Could you please share which speaker wall mount you have been using?
Which is a better speaker pkg for sound quality this Klipsch Reference Theater Pack 5.1 or The Definitive Technology Procinema 600 5.1?...Anyone hear both sets???
Just ordered the updated version and bought a 12 inch klipsch sub from Cosco. Ill be pairing with my Sony receiver...can’t wait to hear it. Upgrading from a Samsung 5.1 soundbar system. Hoping this compliments my 82 inch Samsung tv I just purchased for work from home. Wish me luck!
Roman49x good luck 😁
Hey Bengal, can you link what cords you used to set this up?
Can this work with 5.1 on a computer and if so what type of connection do i need. I want surround sound. Thanks for the video
what kind of speaker mounts are these thanks
Okay, where do I get that couch?
Seeing the surround system on sale for $400 dollars. Thank you for this review due to wondering if this was worth it even from Klipsch with the sale
My sub is front firing.....I agreee...it is very nice......sub is great .....and speakers are just amazing...
Beautiful and sweet sounding speakers!
I believe this is the same one I am looking at. Costco has this on sale for $330 right now! Or maybe this one is upgraded version?
Does this set sound better then a Canton Movie 165 set?
Just bought and set up, picked up r50m speakers for main left and right, everything sounds great, but my room is 20x30 and this 8" sub doesn't do the trick, captures the mid range perfectly, but the lows it ends up sounding like a whoopie cushion
Can i buy this for my Desktop PC or does it need a Receiver??? Thanks.
Klipsch reference 5.1 or logitech z906? whats better?
This theater pack is available at Costco for $349 now. I purchased and paired them with a Denon 7.2 AVR and it blew me away. Great compact speaker system.
How did the system break in? And how is the 8" sub?
@@stevevinas basically no break-in is required in this system as it’s based on satellite speakers with compact 3” drivers. The sub is amazing. Actually, it’s sold separately in places like Crutchfield for $289 (yeah, that’s the sub only). Right now I have the gain knob set to around 40% and that’s enough to provide great low freqs on my setup.
@@Pilot597 what did you set the db to? I have at -5.0 db per my calibration and 60% volume. I have the same setup as you.
@@XenomorphLV426 the db setting would heavily depend on your room acoustics but I usually avoid the extremes. In terms of sub I never go +/- 4 in the db setting.
Which wall mounts did you use for this
what size is the room?
how many watts is the subwoofer?
I have these, albeit in a smaller living room, but the set is great. He's exaggerating about the sub tho, it doesn't shake the house nor can you hear it within a 5 block radius.
who uses the covers on the speakers? the design is just too nice, must show off that copper
Nice review...thanks. I have this theater pack on the way and will pair it up with a Yamaha RX-V685. I'm curious if the sub would perform any better (or worse) being hard-wired as opposed to being wireless?
David Goodman that’s a good question. The way I look at it is as long as there is no input lag over the wireless transmitter, there shouldn’t be a noticeable difference in quality. Unlike the speakers, the bass itself doesn’t have as appreciable of a differentiation in sound. Therefore as long as it is lag free I don’t know that you would gain much by wiring it. It certainly wouldn’t hurt to wire it though! That’s just my 2 cents and based on zero science 😂
Bengal Byte thanks. Speakers showed up today. Hopefully receiver gets here early next week. I’ll start out wireless and go from there. Thanks for answering back.
Thanks for the banana for scale.
WhiteEscape Lol, I’m glad someone picked up on it 😁
I have an issue... I purchased these speakers and I can not connect the Wireless transmitter.
I purchased Denon S650H and I can not seem to synch it.. Please help me out as to how you were able to and connected the device for speakers to work?
David Tchanturia Hm, I’m not sure why that would be the case. For me it was pretty much plug and play. Even after a power outage they resync automatically so i haven’t touched it since initial set up. Sorry you are having trouble, that’s the last thing you want to deal with it after picking up a new set up. Let me know if you are able to figure it out!!
The side speaker are what they actually mean, they need to placed on the side not behind you. And by the way, the center does not have any sub, they are tweeters and mid-range speakers.
bengal byte? where are you from?
Can it connect to a pc?
This cat has to be the presentor of Klipsch! Same colors as the drivers!
Great video, you assisted my decision to pull the trigger from Costco. Are all the speakers wireless?? I don't see any wires on your mount, unless you are highly skilled and have them in the walls. I have an older house and no way to hide the wires.
Chris Rudd glad I could help! Only the subwoofer is wireless, the center and satellite speakers are all connected to the receiver using speaker wire (I used 14 gauge wire). I had a contractor run the wires in wall for me. It depends on the lay out of your room but I have had friends run the wires themselves. Either way, most important thing is that you enjoy the sound itself!
How do the small speakers compare to tower speakers. I'm curious if the size of the horn makes a difference.
It all depends on which tower but in general it will be easier to get a “full” sound out of tower if you are just comparing the satellites and tower with no subwoofer in the mix. I have a pair of somewhat older klipsch reference towers that I use without any sub or center and they are a great stand alone 2.0 system when paired with a Sonos Amp. Those two towers alone won’t keep up with the Reference Theater Pack but that is a 2.0 vs 5.1 setup. If it was 2.0 vs 2.0 the tower would win hands down and I think mainly due to the mid and bass more so than a difference in the upper (at least to my ears). That being said, if I paired those towers with a comparable sub and full size center they would probably blow the compact speakers out of the water as far as presence. The main disadvantage of the tower speakers is they obviously take up more room so you need more floor space, plus it can be harder to convince other household members to have those behemoths out and about. Having both, If I could only have one set up and my budget was lets say less than $500, I would buy the Theater Pack during one of the costco sales or something similar when they are less than $399 to buy. If my budget was higher and floor space/appearances didn’t matter then sure I’d go with some sweet towers.
@@bengalbyte4344 Thanks for the detailed explanation. I slowly upgraded things in my setup and and now have a matching Klipsch Frontstage with the RP-6000F, RP-600C and SPL-150 for my surrounds I use my old JBL northridge e80 and for atmos or back surround i use infinity primus hcs bookshelfs. The next thing will be a projector and a rolldown screen to suplement my 65" OLED TV. I want it to roll down so that the TV and the Speakers are behind it but some research showed that I would need a acoustic transparent screen and I can't find one at a reasonable price at 120".
I asked the original question because i wanted to get the Klipsch Reference Theater Pack for my Bedroom and use it with my PC but because I got a great deal for a logitech z906 I just bought those for like 120€ and they are fine for what they are getting used. It is nice to whatch movies on my 34" ultrawide monitor but I prefere the livingroom setup.
@@bengalbyte4344 Question: I was going to buy a Pioneer 9.2 4k receiver. Is that the right one for this speakers?
What about buying this set and the tower speakers?
Thanks in advance.
Santiago Rivoir without knowing the specific model I would guess the pioneer receiver being a 9.2 will have enough power to drive these no problem. That is probably overkill for this system but the good thing is it would give you the option to expand your set up later if you wanted. You could combine these with tower speakers. If you were to do that then you would probably want to use the towers for the front right and left as those would probably be too much for the rear speakers when mixed with this system. You may also have to play with the balance settings in your receiver to make sure the tower speakers aren’t overpowering the sound and throwing off the surround balance.
i usually keep my bananas on the fridge but whatever floats your boat.
thanks for the review, ive been wanting these but afraid they wont fill the room but it looks clear your room used is pretty big would you agree? any chance you know the measurements of the room your using, im very keen on these. i found my yamaha speakers and avr very fatiguing and finally figured it out, on the yamaha avr on screen menu set eq to off and no ear fatigue at all even at loud volume and long listening sessions.
chronicconditions the room is 650 sq ft and it fills the room well! I’ve never wanted more power using these in that space
@@bengalbyte4344 thanks for the that!
Can you turn the bass all the way down in case you don't have a purely sound proofed room?
Yes, you could do this theoretically either in the receiver settings or with the controls on the subwoofer. Many modern receivers have a nighttime mode that reduces bass output for that reason.
@@bengalbyte4344 ty for letting me know
How are you mounting them to the wall? It would be great if you could link to a product.
I updated the description with the products and links. Thanks!
Just ordered these. Can I ask what wall mounts you are using?
For the Satellite Speakers I used: VideoSecu Universal Wall Ceiling Audio Speaker Mount for Home Theater Speaker Satellite speaker Bracket - 4 Pack MS40B4 WN3
For the center channel: Pinpoint Mounts AM14 Wall Home Speaker Mount
So you would have to cross the speakers over with the sub right at it’s limit. I wish these satellites would at least be rated at 100 hz. Crossing it over at 110-120 seems wrong.
Cuestión!? I’m torn between this & nakamichi sound bar what do you think???
Victor Chavez I haven’t tested the Nakamichi sound bar myself so I can’t say for sure. As with any set up, it will partially depend on the size of your room. I have found soundbars in general are great for small to medium size rooms but generally don’t match the quality of a dedicated surround set up (even accounting for sound-bars that include separate reach channels and a sub). Without having heard that particular line of soundbars though I couldn’t tell you how comparable the sound quality is. If the sound bar sounds good to your ears and is more convenient for you then worth considering.
Which one do you prefer? Klipsch or LG soundbar (LG SN7R 35" 5.1.2)??
I haven’t heard that LG soundbar in person yet so can’t say for sure. I think soundbars are ok for smaller spaces but I’m generally a believer that no matter how many speaker angles and software enhancements soundbars use to create stereo separation they usually don’t beat separate speakers as far sound stage. That being said it depends on your use case and space. Would I use a soundbar for my home theater, never. Do I use a soundbar in one of my smaller spaces, absolutely. It’s convenient, and sounds great for that space. So in summary it depends 😅
I see a lot of people are saying on Amazon to upgrade the center channels with bigger speakers. Are you experiencing any problem with the center channels?
I personally haven’t. The center channel is important for dialogue and I’ve had no issues. Room size, speaker placement, and tuning all play a role though. A lot of receivers come with a microphone to help auto balance the output levels. If the center was muddy or dialogue was hard to hear that would drive me nuts. That being said, things can always be another step up, so sure if you upgrade it’ll be better, but for an all in package that now regularly goes for
@@bengalbyte4344 Ok, thanks
Have a question for you do you need a receiver for these or can you just use the wisa
Yes you need a receiver. Pretty much any one with the feature you want will do. As long as it can lets you set the crossover to 110Hz or idealy 120Hz.
What AV do you use for them? Thinking of purchasing these klipsch speakers
Dan Bower I’m using a Yamaha RX-V371 which is a pretty entry level receiver. I’d like to eventually upgrade the receiver but honestly the speakers still sound great even with the current box so I haven’t been in a rush.
@@bengalbyte4344 is a 9.2 Pioneer VSX-L303 too much for this speakers? Thanks
good lookin cat
i bought this pack and bought an R-120SW sub during the half off sale. No regrets. Of course these tiny speakers suffer near 100Hz however with a 100 crossover it sounds alright. definitely sounds richer with a more powerful subwoofer. the 8 inch r-8sw just didn't have enough for me :D
denziiey that’s a great set up, congrats!
Crossover should be around 160hz. For best blend.
@@KevinLamarche i now have an SVS PB1000 Pro still at 100 hz. should i set it higher? Would that diminish the 1000pro? i'll give it a shot
@@denziiey try it out. What I've seen from multiple measurements online is the best blend from speaker to sub would be 160hz. SVS recommends the same actually..on their subwoofer matching tool.
300 at Costco right now until the 31st of January.
450 at Costco. I think i’m going to get them. the 2-3k dollar systems are overkill for my room size
Just ordered mine from Costco too!!!
you won't regret it but you might wanna buy a bigger sub to go with it
Its 350 now. What receiver is best without overkilling it?
I just got mine for $350 from costco
Bill Latibay there are so many to choose from. These speakers do not need a lot of power, so I would think anything between 75-100 Watts per channel would be good. I went with the Yamaha RX-V685 (7.2 speaker capability) which allows for expansion.
Nice cat
Would i need a separate external AV receiver for this system?
Yes, but I’m sure you’ve already figured that out by now. I would get a 7.2 receiver so you have the option to add speakers or another subwoofer
@@michael86ishable ok cool. Thanks! Happy Holidays
Have you upgraded your center channel?? Just looking for some upgrades to my reference pack.
Kudos for klipschy kitten purrrr!
What brackets did you use for these speakers? @Bengal Byte
Charles Wayne I used the Pinpoint AM14 for the center channel and the VideoSecu universal mounts for the other four speakers. Links are in the video description. Thanks for the sub!
@@bengalbyte4344 , I don't see links of mounts in the description. Could you please share? Thanks in advance.
Do you need a receiver for these speakers?
Yes! It’s on sale at Costco for 350 right now until aug 31
What size of wire for the speakers
George Mckibben, they accept 14-18 gauge speaker wire. I am personally using 14 gauge 99.9% oxygen-free copper wire.
I have these speakers, they are fuckn brilliant but I got a 10" sub with my set up.
I heard only the Australian version comes with a 10 and USA gets a 8
So you need a receiver or is it ok if you don't have one?
You’ll need a receiver
Is the av receiver needed?
Abraham Gonzalez yes it is
I want to purchase these without the sub. Anyone know a good place????
ldlc
what happens if you have a 7.1 movie?
While the receiver will down mix the signal to 5.1, there is still likely a partial loss of audio for where the extra rear speakers would be in a 7.1 system. If you have the option to go to 7.1 with speakers of similar quality then it’ll likely be a better surround experience.
Buy the reference shelf speakers and use them as your front left and right. Then use the extras from the set as your extra rears
lol just grabbed mine for 300 I cant wait!!
How you like it ?
They don't make these anymore sadly :(
Nice set up, are those the cloud couches?
Johnny Carrillo They are similar but they are from a local furniture maker! The restoration hardware cloud couches would cost as much as a car 😂
Restoration hardware furniture is not that great for the money. I know it’s harder to shop online or see in store but North Carolina furniture is where it’s at. Hooker, Baker, Sherrill, hickory are all amazing. Sherrill will be the best price wise
The sub does have great bass, but it frequently has a terrible noise from the vent
Chris colón, Have you tried adjusting the gain and Hz with the back dials? I have mine about 7 inches away from the wall with the phase set to 180, gain at notch 4, and low pass at 40hz.
@@bengalbyte4344 I have tried playing with the crossover, the best performance (performance meaning least vent noise, not best bass) I've found is to leave the sub on LFE (no low pass) and let the receivers logic handle the frequency crossover which I currently have at 80hz, Though now that I know the speakers are really only meant to get down to 110hz, I may want to do some more testing. What are you using to cover frequencies 40hz-110hz ?
What crossover is set for your speakers?
Set to 120hz
Bellissima Sala Home theatre! I miei complimenti!
Is this plug and play or do I need a receiver too...
Dapper Zapper you’ll need a receiver, they are not plug and play
hey why bengal byte? are you from west bengal or you just casually used that name
Being sold for under $300 now in the US.
2:05 Banana Klipsch lol
Did you take that ending footage?
Ryan Long yes I did
Your center channel is a foot off of the floor?
Where else is he gonna put it ? It’s a big screen .
Guacho either slightly above the screen, directionally pointed down toward ear-level or recessed into the wall behind the screen itself. The center channel should be as close in-line to the left and right channels as possible; all tweeters should be at or near ear level. The center should never be 12” from the floor, especially a carpeted one.
$329 currently at costco - its absurd to spend more than that on this
The cat likes them good enough for me
Cat Approved , Owner Tested ...
For $300 would you recommend this?.
Yes
no sound tests?
The 4 speakers are wireless?
Steven Maldonado no, they are wired with standard speaker wire. Only the subwoofer is wireless.
you have really beautiful house
Got mine for $200 from Amazon few days ago.
It is comparable to the All-in-one kit Logitech sells for $300 and Klipsch seems to be selling it as a loss leader. I was very curious as to why and it would seem its because they need a driven-wire setup that most non-enthusiasts or those not interested in the Klipsch portfolio don't want to care about. This is where the real story seems to be.
