    Hi mate, I found with the chlorine test that its best to shake it well before starting the timer on the tester, placing it in the tester and then starting the timer gave enough time for all the particles to settle, putting it in with 20 seconds left on the clock gave me major false readings like 0.3 out of the tap, 0.6 in the pond, did it my way and had 0.3 out of the tap and 0.0 in the pond.

    Very good video mate. I love seeing how other people treat topically and the video quality was perfect. I get stressed doing this without the aggro of having to film it at the same time, and trying not to swear 😄
    Btw, I use the wife's makeup brushes for Tamodine, you know those fluffy fine bristled ones, you can get them nice and deep under the scales, but maybe not so accurate for treating near the eyes or mouth.

    Mouth sores and pop-eyed are both typical symptoms caused by overfeeding, which happens at a time when digestion and appetite are not matched, you know. As I have said many times, are you checking the shape of the faeces properly? In any case, until the water temperature stabilises above 20°C, you need to be patient and either keep feeding as little as possible or rather not feed at all, no matter how much they want it. However, in the UK, the water temperature doesn't naturally rise if you wait, does it? That's why you need to heat the water at this time of year. I think the extra cost of heating in winter should be better replaced here,.

    • @transform9883
      @transform9883 Před 2 lety +1

      So I agree with Atsumi Naoki; it would be better to heat during warmer seasons especially considering that this is when an air source heater is most efficient. Although I do not directly connect overfeeding with mouth sores or pop eye necessarily; to me that would be down to what is happening in the water; i.e. bacteria/toxins and also lowered immunities/healing capacities in the fish themselves (which, yes, are temperature dependant). Although, I do know that overfeeding can cause bad water conditions, but as you can see in Andy's videos - he monitors these well. I would purely put this down to temperature needing to be optimal and maybe issues with pH and overly hard water contributing - RO systems are a good thing to introduce

    • @atsuminaoki9910
      @atsuminaoki9910 Před 2 lety

      @@transform9883 There's a saying in Japan that you shouldn't be fooled if they want food in early spring and early summer when the water temperature is below 20°C. In our case, it is more common for beginners to infect KOI with Flexibacter`columnaris and die of gill disease. It is as common as your flukes. Sometimes it deteriorates rapidly and they die in a flap. In most of those cases it is caused by overfeeding due to insufficient water temperature despite of a large appetite. In any case, in mid-summer we all feed quite radically when the water temperature is above 25°C. Against this background, it is widely accepted that until that time comes, we should refrain from feeding them, no matter how much they want.

      Andy whilst texting and still watching 😆 I’ve noticed you don’t trickle as under pressure?? Do you use mains🚰 for your required amount ?? Maybe that’s the issue ?? as I do know when reading cartridge specs it states 1-2ltr per min for certain removals but I run my main water supply 1-2ltr per-min but then restrict down to 150ml per min constantly which gives me my 20% 🚾 weekly

    Do you not use Sodium Thiosulphate for when you have pp the pond? It also turns chlorine into salt i think ive read. I use that now instead of a pre filter and dose at 13g per 100 gallons. I think ive also read you cant over dose but dont quote me on that.

      Yeah correct that was months ago now though when i used PP. Didnt know about it turning into salt, and as you say correctly you cant overdose on ST but as im trickling in not sure how id add the ST to match the fresh un dechlorinated tap water. • @koidiaries
      @koidiaries  Před 2 lety

      Well theres a few different types of weed, if its the short fluffy stuff it doesnt really grow long, its the string algae thats the problem, and that needs nipping in the bud as it can literally grow an inch a day. As soon as i start to see the stringy stuff forming i hit the pond with a treatment, as when it comes off the walls its causes a mess and can block the drain

  • @transform9883
    @transform9883 Před 2 lety +1

    When the carbon is spent - take it out and dry it. Once it is completely dry; the chlorine has evaporated from it and it can now be used again at 100% effectiveness

    • @koidiaries
      @koidiaries  Před 2 lety +1

      Well i never knew that! I may try that, not sure where i can dry 25kg of carbon though but may try a small qty! Cheers

    • @transform9883
      @transform9883 Před 2 lety

      @@koidiaries You are welcome. Boiling works too, at 100 degrees in water the chlorine turns into a gas in about 10 minutes (80 degrees will work too but best be on the safe side). And yeah, 25 kg is a lot to do in one go. What I would do is once that is used up, replace it with a fresh 25 kg and slowly remove the chlorine from the spent amount to then be reused once the second quantity of carbon needs replacing. Cycle between the two amounts as needs be. UV light helps too, so drying it in sunlight seems like a good approach to trial this for yourself. Good luck, I enjoy your videos - your new pond is class!

    • @koidiaries
      @koidiaries  Před 2 lety

      Yeah deffo IMO. I think in hindsight a smaller blue would of been suffice and easier to manage if i have to do this every few months. On the other hand a few friends have never had an issue with theirs, maybe the key is how much carbon is in there as if theres not enough the tracking can occur?? Who knows
