My grandma came to the US in 1886 at 15 y.o. from Greenburg Germany . She lived with us for a time. I remember her making a yeast coffee cake in a big metal tub with an attached auger type device to turn the dough. She would put the dough into a baking pan, dimple the dough adding butter slices. Then she would sprinkle suger over it. She would call it kuchen. I wish I had her recipe.
I lived 3 years in Stuttgart, Germany when my husband was in the Army. I enjoyed very much when we went to a German bakery and had coffee and dessert. The German bakery items were delicious. I often bought Brochen, German bread rolls, which I froze if I did not eat them the same day. I enjoyed watching your CZcams so much and especially your friends talking to you in German.
Thank you for reminding me of wonderful memories of spending time with my German Oma! She loved baking Zwetschgenkuchen and hers was always absolutely delicious! Cheerio!
Your plum cake looks so good! I remember getting on the boat in Michigan, debarking in Racine and getting Kringle. We can buy it at our local grocery to this day. 😊
Ohhhhh I was surprised to hear german with your friends! 😍 Anja, I love learning from you. And I love your table and chairs (which look very bavarian!) 💛💛
Haha I just made Apfelkuchen Sunday for coffee and cake. My mother is from Berlin so that is a tradition I grew up with and continue with my husband and kids.
I bring out my mother in law's silver and my family china regularly. It's nice to sit down and use the pretty things. and while I know you'd probably get rude comments - I will admit I am not too old to lick the beaters!
Can you make shelf stable dumplings? I would like an easy recipe (maybe a sour dough one) that I can use when making chicken and dumplings but I would like a shelf stable recipe so I can make quite a few and have them ready when I want them. Thanks.
I often use spelt flour or Einkorn flour. But you can use any flour you have. If you like a deeper, nuttier flavor, you can even use a whole-grain flour of wheat, spelt, or Einkorn. Bonus if you mill your own grains.😊 ~ Anja
The cakes all looked so delicious, your table setting lovely 😊
Thank you so much! I am glad you enjoyed it 💛 ~ Anja
Oh my goodness! Yes! I love plum cake! And I do miss the German kind of plums.

Such a sweet time with your friends! Your table looks lovely! The cakes look delicious, especially yours!
Thanks so much! 😊
Thank you for putting this out. Sadly, this is a beautiful tradition which modern society has never experienced.
Couldn't agree more!
Come to Germany, we still do it!
My favourite German tradition. Greetings from Berlin! :-)
Can’t wait to make that.
If add about a rounded tsp of instant vanilla pudding to that amount of cream it will stabilize it and keep it whipped for several days in the fridge.
It is called a TINKLE of cups!😊

Great idea! I'll look into that soon!
Lovely video... I also have always loved the sound of China cups on their saucers! Lovely celebration. Thank you Anja.

Do you have this recipe on a video? I would love to make this. Thank you.😊
Yes, you can check it out here: czcams.com/video/6LYz4IDbzLg/video.html😊 ~ Anja
Kaffeezeit is the best zeit
Da kann ich nur zustimmen!
Looks lovely and delicious! Can you make this gluten free?
I often use spelt flour or Einkorn flour. But you can use any flour you have. If you like a deeper, nuttier flavor, you can even use a whole-grain flour of wheat, spelt, or Einkorn. Bonus if you mill your own grains.😊 ~ Anja
Im having a hard time finding the actual recepie. I'd like to mske this cake. Can you please tell me where i can get your recepie. Thank you
Which cake are you trying to make?
This one, in this vidro. German coffee cake. I love how you explain it, but I can't find the recepie.
Could I use frozen plums for this? I have some that I cut and froze
That would work but they tend to give off more juice ~ Anja
Haben Sie ein Rezept zu Germknödel?
Ich habe noch keines. Aber vielleicht bald!
The tablecloth would have looked much better turned the other way to cover the entire table.
It‘s actually square 😌 ~ Anja
Silver is so marvelous to eat off of! Amazing properties for health!!💪🏻👋🏻 People used to put a silver coin in milk!🤯✌🏻

An unrecognized German art, like Japanese tea.
