  • Stephon Marbury refused to accept that the NBA was the end of his basketball journey, and he found a way to ensure those early years wouldn't be the only way we define him. Nearly a quarter century since he arrived on the NBA scene as one of the most hyped point guard prospects of his time, his story is still worth telling.

    I met him when he was about 12. He stayed across the hallway from me at Syracuse Basketball camp when I was 16 or 17. I lent him some hip-hop tapes; NWA, BDP and Public Enemy... he was the star of the camp even at that age. Really nice kid too, so I’ve always rooted for him. So glad he found his place in Beijing.

    His family put all the pressure on Stephon to " make it".He had brothers Donald and Eric who were talented H.S and Div1 college players, but never made it big, so Stephon was their last hope.He's overcome alot in his life and it's just good to see him living on HIS terms.He was able to use basketball for success.

    Loved his shoes, wore them throughout middle and high school and they never wore or tore, simply outgrew them. Seeing they are back available is nice, none in my size however. His philanthropy game was just as good, if not, better than his on-court game. Marbury is just so underappreciated as an NBA icon imo.

    People were laughing about him eating Vaseline...but my grandmother let us eat a little Vicks vapor rub and it got the cold out of us fast...so he isn't too far off...it's a home remedy...you just eat a little bit not enough to harm you.

      Marbury was a great player. Him, Francis, AI, Tim Hardaway, pretty similar game. They would dominate in 2020. Back then it was still the big men's (and micheal jordan) league

    Don't forget he was the cover athlete for NBA Ballers and the spokesmen for Steve & Barry's lol. I was a huge Marbury fan when he was with the Suns even had his jersey. I'm happy he got a happy ending in China. I don't think there will be another story quite like his lol.

    The problem with Marbury was he couldn't really elevate his teammates because he was more of a scoring point guard. Had he been few inches taller and played the 2 guard, he would have been an unstoppable player. There's no denying his talent but he just missed out playing in today's era where PG's like Curry and RW can score and team's build around their talent.

  • @cesarquint256
    @cesarquint256 Před 4 lety +3

    Good vid I’m glad he end good lol I mean it always seem to me he was kind of a jerk or a cancer with teammates ( I am probably wrong) but it seem he was really chill in China and see him with a smile and as a coach is nice, also the people love him and is cool that he show them love also.

    • @thedragontactic

      Can I ask who is worse in your opinion? NBA Marbury or Melo?

    • @cesarquint256
      @cesarquint256 Před 4 lety

      The Dragon Tactic worse? Marbury wasn’t bad ( 8 straight season avg 20+ with 7+ assists is really great...in 03 he avg 19.8 points but meh ) but Melo had 14 straight season starting from his rookie year with 20+ points and being sometimes a really good rebounder sniffing top 5 mvp one season I think... now melo weakness is his passing, marbury was pretty good at that, still Melo is the better player in their primes easily, so marbury is the worst imo but he had horrible teams and mostly because of him. He didn’t reach his full potential tho.
