- This is the start of finally building my John Bonham replica green sparkle set, it's taken me years to track down the drums, parts and pieces (mainly the 26" bass drum) but also good candidates for a rewrap, all of these drums had wrap issues, i do not rewrap nice original drums as people need those to complete other sets. This set is for me and will stay in my collection, as a huge Bonham fan this is something I've wanted to do for a very long time.
This is just how i do things, not really a "how to" video. As with everything I'm still always learning, figuring things out myself and adapting my years of wood wooding experience to repairing drums. I learn something new with every repair and each has it's own challenges, from simple to extensive like this. i had thought about replacing the whole diamond shaped area in blue tape of the inner ply but i think this worked out pretty well, it's not absolutely perfect which rarely exists in the vintage drum realm anyways lol but in the end it's strong, looks decent and no one will ever see it with the coated heads on anyways. almost every replica kit i've seen has a similar repair done as these 14 x 26 3 ply bass drums do not pop up every day, actually very rarely, virgin undrilled even less or never lol and usually very expensive so there is not a lot to chose from.
i was extremely happy to come across this one, i didn't notice the hackery of the tom mount at first as it was covered by a gasket and washers but for what i paid for it and just even getting a chance to own one i'm still vary happy with the purchase.
as always, thanks for watching.

I had one some years ago that I restored. I couldn't take it with me when I moved, so it had to be sold. I didn't want to, but had no choice. Best acoustic bass drum sound I ever got. 26x14/14x10/16x16/16x18. Green sparkle rewrap, all clear interior shells that were in really nice shape. Loved that kit.
Ah the one that got away! That sucks! I can't wait to get this one to the finish line, lots of work in between here and there though!
Great and informative. Looking forward to next video! Be well.
Thank you!
Your punctilious nature is incredible.
An absolute artist.
These are the best restoration videos I've ever seen... and I watch a lot of them.
Phenomenal

Amazing work! The detail you put in into plugging the bass drum alone was impressive. I’m learning so much.

Nice I hope you have the final finished Bonham kit soon can’t wait man Awesome work you do.
🥁 on hopefully you can do a sound check and show how they sound when completed.
Thank you 🙏 unfortunately I haven't really had the time to work on it but hopefully I'll get some if not all done over the next couple weeks and will definitely record it!
Awesome 😎 looking forward to seeing it
These are really nice drums
Your work is amazing keep it up 👍
Beautiful colour and that vintage Ludwig sound that they have.
@@adrianmezzatesta6714 thank you!
Excellent work Shawn! Love your video's. Huge follower from Nashville. I have a Slingerland bass that need the same type of repair from bass spur relocation.
Thanks man!
You are doing some pretty sweet work brother... Much Respect from Dow Under....Still i bet the heart gets racing drilling them holes... I know mine would be..
Thank you!
Great idea, I’ve seen so many holes. Metal ones suck.
Nice work Shawn..
Thank you 🙏
Very nice work! Thanks for the inspiration!
Thanks and thanks for watching!
Nice save!
Thanks!
Looking forward to part 2.
Good job
Thank you!
Great video I've done a few kits myself the hardest part being getting the wrap on so I'm looking forward to seeing how you tackle that one ??
The 26" should be fun lol the bigger the drum the more difficult it is haha not that it's hard just more to have to finagle... thanks for watching!
excellent. Do you think a 26 inch bass drum is overkill?
thanks! not in my opinion but it depends on the situation!
