Hi Thomas, can you test the full hybrid nx 350h? I want to see the fuel consumption about that model, because I don’t think the plug-in hybrid is the answer to low consumption. Thank you so much, bye from Italy!!!

Don’t understand the hate in these comments for the controls. They’re encouraging you to keep your eyes on the road unlike all the other manufacturers making distracting capacitive buttons on the steering. In this case the HUD shows what you’re about to press before you press it while keeping eyes on the road. Not just tech for tech’s sake.

Interesting point about the reach of the steering wheel. I don't have long legs, but I also felt that the steering wheel was too far away from me when fully extended. Perhaps I am too used to a Porsche driving position, but it didn't feel right. I loved the rest of the car though, even the steering wheel controls, which you soon get used to. The car's quietness also impressed me.

So many driving modes. Also the ICE on itself can switch between Atkinson mode with port injection and Otto mode with direct injection in an instance. Due to electronically controlled variabel intake and exhaust camshafts as well as the dual injection system with port and direct injection. And that combined the EV motors up front and in the rear. 'What do you think?' You ask, Thomas. Well, as I approach my 80th birthday, here are some thoughts from a fully paid up member of the Boring Old Farts Club. But, I did pass my Advanced Driving Test when I was in my 60s. First, I must thank you for your excellent English, and your in depth, honest appraisal, and in depth knowledge. I am currently watching every 2022 Hybrid SUV review because, in 2-3 years I will be buying one (I never buy new). My current Lexus RX 400h is 12 years old, and still a dream to drive, although, I do wish that it had the equivalent of hydrolastic suspension. and that the road noise (despite fitting the quietest tyres) wasn't so obvious. Also, on full acceleration, the front end nearly takes off, and you nearly lose control, despite the enormous piece of kerb stone bolted under the front of the car to hold it down. So, this car, compared to its modern equivalent, is very old fashioned, but a great car, nevertheless.
Having spent hours on CZcams watching many reviews of these vehicles, and also the full electric versions, I am puzzled why so much technical wizardry is built into these cars. For example, in an emergency, I am going to slam on the brakes. Because I am a human being (allegedly), and that is how I am programmed, by experience, to react, after 63 years driving. No amount of 'protective programming' (e.g.,pedestrian recognition) will make me believe that all I have to do is trust.

Thanks for the review, I have a Benz A250 myself and my wife drives BMW X1, we're currently deciding to change one of them into BMW X3 20i or Lexus NX 350 F Sport (or RX 350) for extra room b/c of our new born son... and I'd like to add that... The issue with German cars imo is because of additional tax (about 20-30% more expansive) AND most importantly the speed limit in Taiwan. (our Highway speed limit is at 100 km/h, and the new traffic law passed last year makes 141 dangerous driving and would suspend license for 1 year, so the "best" part for all Benz/BMW model for driving beyond 140km/h upto 200 km/h is quite useless. So Lexus NX 350 is quite lucky that it would never have to face BMW X1 at speed higher than 120 for the most part in Taiwan. (Plus, Speeding ticket at 121km/h is around $400 USD).
Also, because Taiwan is small, mostly local driving, less highway, the general speed is not high, and cars in the front would often change lanes or make unexpected stops/turns or cars on the side parking... the 5AU design for auto-follow is quite useless in city-driving... I would have to break out of any type of auto-follow / center laning very often... (Honestly it took me quite a few year to get used to the traffic here.

To add to that, now when changing a song, I have to touch, then click. Every single time. and the buttons have a mushy feel to it too. I really don't understand the problem with the buttons on the steering wheel and the head-up display. I've been trying the vehicle for 5 minutes, and I think it's the most brillant system ever. You never have to take your eyes off the road/HUD, because the button that your thumb is resting on is shown in the HUD. And with the switch function you have 8 function with 4 buttons whereas all other vehicles have just 1 function per button, and you just have to make do with the layout that they have chosen..

This is more a problem for car reviewers who switch cars every day. For the daily driver it is much easier to get used to how to operate the steer controls.
However I do understand the dislike for always having to use the touchscreen for the most used controls like temperature, climate and seat heating. One never gets used to that!

And their eCVTs are also extremely reliable, plus their hybrid tech is very much proven at this point. They are not the most fancy cars, the most sporty or the fastest, but they are cozy, fuel efficient, and will last a long time with not much service time and running costs. Hi Thomas whenever you mention seats - you prefer fake leather, but don’t you think that plastic fake leather is worse for the environment than cow skin - for which the cows *aren’t* specifically killed for. What are we supposed to do with the cow skin produced either way? Throw it away maybe?

    • @autogefuehl
      @autogefuehl  Před 2 lety +3

Thank you very much for your interest in this topic. As a start, please tune in to what the animal leather industry tried to do here with our channel: czcams.com/video/nP_CvLlaFlI/video.html
In general, depending on the animal skin grade, the animals are specifically raised for this matter. However even if meat would be the reason no.1 in other cases, the hide remains one of the most profitable body parts. That means: If manufacturers put animal leather in a car and you accept it as a customer, you give your money to an industry that earns money by oppressing humans, animals and destroys the environment, you make them more profitable. Also, if you turn the argument around "meat is the waste of the leather industry" you realize how biased the argument is. After all, would you care for which body part you would murdered? Or imagine someone robs you on the street and beats you to death - would it matter to you if it was for your Smartphone or for your purse?
The animal agriculture industry occupies 2/3 of all farm land on this planet which cannot be used for direct human nutrition then. That is extremely inefficient. The no.1 cause for deforestation is the animal industry. It is also one of the biggest contributor to climate change. The amount of land, resources, energy and water being used is beyond imagination. If you are interested in how the animals are being treated and transported in the global leather industry, watch this footage: czcams.com/video/tkjCAmq1_8E/video.html
Note that the footage is genuine and was recorded by a highly decorated investigative journalist in Germany I know myself personally.
For the alternative, you can either use artificial fabrics which can be made from recyclables (we have already shown a lot of vehicles that use great fabric seats from PET-bottles etc.) or more and more also from plant-based materials (like Pinatex). And even if you would create a seat completely with petroleum without a recycling share, the amount of oil being used for that is nothing in comparing just to once fueling up your car.
In practical reasons, fabric or microfibre seats are just more useful. You do not sweat in summer and it is not cold in winter. And there are also new leatherette materials available which are superior in every aspect: czcams.com/video/u94YXJ72UTA/video.html
Using animal skin on seats is a major issue of animal rights, human rights - and after all just of common sense what is better both for the environment and just more practical and more luxurious for the customer. We cannot change what we have bought in the past (that also counts for ourselves of course!), but with more information and compassion we can change how we decide in the future.

With regard to the odd user interface and associated controls (particularly the steering wheel multi-function controls) - I believe that Lexus engineers that worked on this car determined that the target owner would be younger and therefore more apt to be attracted to "more" technology. More does not mean BETTER. In this case, more means CONFUSING and WORSE. Just because something can be done with technology absolutely does not mean that it should be done. So - this car to me is an engineering and marketing failure. Would be easy to fix it but I am not confident that the Lexus team responsible for the design will either acknowledge that the car is messed up much less correct it. In summary - this is an excellent review and I absolutely appreciate the information and perspective.
