  • Hello all, thanks for coming back. So what i thought was going to be a mega drama, with my #harleydavidson #dyna street bob not starting.
it was the motorcycle #battery. it could have been the stator, a relay or even the regulator rectifier.

Hey bomber, glad you got there in the end mate. The alarm issue is avoided if you turn on the ignition and then pull the main fuse before disconnecting the battery. Your old battery has probably dropped a cell internally. It still has a voltage output but little to no amperage capability to crank the engine over. It is what happens to all batteries after a certain age. It is almost like they design them to fail so you have to buy a new one hey?.....

Thanks buddy. Trial and error. We learn as we go. Ideally I just wanted to do the correct thing and not make matters worse.

Obviously, a low battery has enough juice for lights and gauges. But cranking an engine with low battery is no go, as its takes far more power

Yeah...but I had to give it go

Did it end up lasting? Any other problems since? I’ve been having this issue for a couple of years. Replaced the battery initially and finally installed a button on the starter motor which starts the bike but the battery dies and I have to charge it on the trickle charger for a bit if I don’t ride it every couple of days.

Actually the new battery only lasted a year after that video. I took it back to Harley Davidson and they gave me another new battery.
They did say that the bike must "always" be on the trickle charger.

My original battery lasted 4 years with zero problems.
If this new one doesn't last then it's something with the bike wiring.
I've only changed the tail light and turn signals, so there shouldn't be any problems

@@BRUISER1 interesting. That sounds just like mine but my start button on the right hand controls doesn’t start the bike. Just makes this really loud fast clicking noise initially followed by nothing at all. Noticed the voltage dropping at the battery as I left the ignition on. Hesitant to take it to Harley but I’m fearing it’s my only option at this point

@ursusarctos9825 Open the housing on the right, for the start button, check that their isn't a pinched wire or something wrong. Otherwise yes you'll need a professional to help

Hi Bomber, do you have an idea on where i can find the starter relè on dyna street bob?

    • @BRUISER1

The regulator is mounted on the bottom front of the frame, I'm not sure where the relay is, unless it's also under the seat.
