      I saw something kinda interesting with regard to this recently - for the Pillow Talk mascara Charlotte Tillberry just launched the ‘before’ says ‘beautiful before’ and something like ‘my best lashes’ in the ‘after’. Her brand has a lot of issues but I was like hmm. I always feel so confronted by those before and after things, like yeah I get they’re showing the model with and without the product to demonstrate the results but yeah, idk, thought it was a cooler way to do it.

    I disagree on being transparent if you've had plastic surgery. HOWEVER, it's unfair to preach 'natural beauty' if you have had work done. There are various reasons for getting plastic surgery and not all reasons are comfortable to talk about. And you're so right about the fact that men don't get shamed for their surgeries... Why can't people just mind their own business?? 😂

    • @LaurenElizabethxxxx
      @LaurenElizabethxxxx Před 3 lety +27

      Whenever this debate of plastic surgery comes up, I always think back to the “Kylie Jenner Lip Challenge” and how girls were literally bruising their faces trying to look like her because she insisted for the longest time she never had work done. Like sis, it’s obvious you went under the knife and it’s whatever. But when girls are naive enough to think they can get big lips naturally like that is insane.

    • @Ali_D_Katt
      @Ali_D_Katt Před 3 lety +21

      If you're going to promote or develop/sell a product that supposedly enhances the attribute you had plastic surgery on you have to disclose that is slimey and underhanded. For example Kylie with her lip kits or her skincare line she has had her lips done and she uses products and contraptions on her face that are inaccessible to a normal person. She's not getting that skin using only her own skincare line and it would be bullshit if she implied so. If you aren't in a field that you are trying to influence people to try to obtain your look that's fine. If you craft or play video games on youtube it would be weird to bring up your fake boobs.

    I’m in the medical field and I don’t understand why people think body positivity and obesity having certain health consequences are mutually exclusive concepts. It’s not as if people can (or should) just suddenly lose a bunch of weight in a day so how does it make sense to say that people somehow deserve to be miserable and shamed until they do so. And healthy weight management is a privilege in itself on so many levels, from financial to medical to simply having the time and energy. Even for myself, by medical standards I could probably stand to lose a couple pounds but instead I’m working 90 hours a week at the hospital. Am I not allowed to feel even a little bit confident in my appearance between now and when I’m finally cachectic and lying in my casket probably at age 40 from being overworked? Lol.

I would encourage you to try therapy/cannabis management over pills that are only going to make you more sick. I know it’s a touchy subject bc it has to do w people’s mental health. I struggle w depression and suicidal thoughts, and am just starting to come out of my postpartum depression after having my second child, but I don’t think pills are the answer. Like you said if you stopped taking them it would be bad so clearly that tells you it’s just a bandaid over a problem and nothing is really fixed in your mind. Not to sound like a c*nt, obviously I’d rather you alive and on medication than dead-just something to consider though; pharmaceuticals will always make you sicker in the long run (they’re not meant to help you they’re meant to make money off you)

Don't get me wrong, there are problems (mostly with funding cuts from our right leaning government at the moment)- but it is a really great resource for SO many people who don't want to go to uni- im a huge fan!

When these brands come up and say they want to be diversity they forget a whole group a people, they forget men. Men from all walks of life do in fact wear makeup for different reasons and should be represented more in makeup campaigns make-up artist Robert welsh brought up this good point when millie dropped her makeup brand she talked about being diversity to a different range of people but that diversity forgot to include the boys which kinda negates the whole "trying to be diversity". I really love that Rihanna straight off the bat included men in her campaign without a second thought and really talks highly of men being in the community she created a safe space for men of all colors, sexualities, and expressions to just be themselves with no judgment and gives fair representation for everybody's standard of beauty.

    Your comment about plus size models not having double chins is very true and accurate. I have always found a lot of plus size "inclusivity" to be very preformstive and lackluster. For instance most plus size models I think hold their weight in certain places, they are never heavy in the face or stomach or arms, they hold their weight in their thighs, butt and boobs; and are taller so their being a larger size never looks that noticeable if that makes any sense. I'm not plus size, but close to it at a size 12-14, but as someone who holds a lot of their weight in their stomach it very much sends the message of "it's okay to be a little heavier just not in those places". I have the same feelings about the body trend shifting to "thicc" women which is that same shape of having bigger boobs, thighs and butt but having a tiny waist and stomach.
    I have also noticed people praising brands for being "inclusive" when in reality they just have like 2 plus sized models. Having 5 models that are size zero and 5 models that are size 20 is still only two sizes. Sorry that was kind of a long rant.

Also, when I job hunt on indeed like nearly every job is only willing to offer $15 an hour and want a college degree.. I think that’s a huge problem because you can’t live off of that. A decent one bedroom is 1,000 a month. Add all bills, utilities, groceries, and student loan payments?? It’s one reason I stopped going to college. Not worth it to get a degree when your almost slapped in the face with $15 an hour pay.

      @@ambernicole. I disagree. Rather I think the issue is not getting into college, but not being payed as much when you get out. Search up racial wage gaps White women are payed around 70 cents on the dollar, while black women are payed 64 cents and native women are payed a mere 50 cents.

      The idea of higher education is wonderful and everyone should be able to explore specialized topics from the world around them. That being said, the system that we have is total bullshit and I don’t blame people for hating it. It’s not about the education. It’s about the astronomical prices and getting trapped in financial ruin after attending, or how difficult it is to get in depending on who you are and where you’re from. It’s total bullshit.

    I dont what this to come off as rude because I dont overly mind it but not everyone wants to hear about amarican politics when watching makeup videos.
    I'm Canadian and really its exhausting when I just want to watch something that in normal life would have nothing to with amarican politics but the person is now making it about amarican politics. Which really i can have an option on but i have no say in it so really blah I dont wanna keep hearing about it all the time.
    I dont think that just because someone has a influence that they should use that platform to talk about politics, especially if they arent fully educated on what they are talking about. Politics are extremely divisive, so I think its totally fair for someone not to want to walk into that minefield.

    I kind of like the idea (for the politics and makeup/consumption thing) that it shouldn't matter if it doesn't become part of the companies core. Within the makeup community this applies/applied to companies like Kat Von D. and Jefree Star because when you buy from those brands you are buying from a company whose core "face" are the problems with the company. I think to some degree brands like
    chick fil a have similar issues because they make their religion a part of their branding (closures on Sunday and the religion focus on their website). Idk just my basic opinion kind of curious what other people think the line is.

    When I think of the idea that all bodies are beautiful, my thought process is that because all bodies are beautiful, my body is beautiful. My body is beautiful and worth something, and it has value not because it's beautiful but because my body with me in it is a whole-ass human being and human beings have worth and deserve respect. My body, just like other bodies, is beautiful and deserves respect, which means that I should treat it with respect. Treating my body with respect may or may not result in weight loss, but it will certainly result in my own better physical and mental health.

    Also, unpopular opinion to the “Americans don’t know anything about world history beyond American history” unpopular opinion: most countries I’ve gone to, people don’t know American history either. It’s not an American exclusive thing. It’s not like they focused so much energy on American or European or Asian history in my 12 years of Canadian curriculum. They focused on Canada, then expanded further after the fact or in conjunction. My ex girlfriend who was French didnt now much of anything about American or Canadian history. My English relatives don’t.
    It seems to me that so many of these people that say “Americans know NOTHING about the rest of the world” are a bit hypocritical because let’s be real; how much about American history do *they* know.

    As a personal trainer I’ve had to explain body positivity to many clients. Having body positivity is something everyone should have regardless of your weight. Of course being physically healthy is important, but being mentally healthy is just as important. Everyone’s bodies are happy at different weights. Whatever feels healthy and natural for you is fine! You are allowed to love yourself while also still working on bettering yourself. There can be so many reasons why someone is naturally heavier, including medical issues, medications, food sensitivities, genetics, etc. As long as your are paying attention to what you eat (strict diets don’t work) and you’re getting physical activity of some sort done every day, you’re fine.
    I also 100% agree that most “plus sized” models are NOT plus sized at all lol. I’m like.... she’s just curvy! Wtf! This was a great video and I always love hearing your opinions. You’re a gorgeous, intelligent young woman! Keep doing what you’re doing boo ❤️
