  • Hi friends! So today I just wanted to sit down and chat with you guys about your thoughts and mine on the recent ABH releases. I find this topic to be very interesting because I don't think I can remember the last time a brand has lost this much respect this quickly and it is crazy to see! I hope you guys like this video and I can't wait to hear your comments on this! See you in the next one!

Clearly ABH missed the part of their marketing research where the price is a factor...the main reason Colourpop can get away with so many launches is bc it doesn't break your bank each purchase

That’s not someone I look up to at all not want my children to see as any type of role model. She glorifies things I find very insulting. Yes I’m conservative. She could’ve actually taken a lesson from Tarte & Sugar Rush - Sugar Rush was specifically marketed as a down-market brand for a younger audience. It was a win from a brand management perspective. Norvina could’ve been a great brand for the younger consumer who could kind of age up into the ABH products, but she priced herself out of that one. A brand management & pr disaster.

“Supposedly” they were all leaked and that’s why released them all within a month. I guess if I planned on buying one of them, that works, because I really only like Vol. 3. It’s still odd though and people aren’t happy with the over saturation of products.

I think the 'production issues' are mostly massive leaks making Norvina feel like she has to release instantly. It's been a massive problem for the brand, probably not helped by a ridiculously huge pr list of not properly vetted people.
If the pro palettes launched vol. 1 summer 2019 (a month or two before the Jackie Aina collab), vol. 2 spring 2020 and vol. 3 autumn/fall 2020 under a distinct offshoot they'd be praised to high heaven, but leaks made Norvina feel like her hand was forced xAndyx

The Norvina brand has a gorgeous aesthetic, and the products are of quality, but I really do wish they had done a more official launch of it. I didn't mind the original Norvina palette. Sure, she's not an influencer and not many people know about her but the fact that she is Anastasia's daughter and is relevant to the brand itself I honestly didn't mind it and thought the palette was stunning. The problem with ABH now like you and many others have mentioned is the fact that there have been too many launches in a short period of time and those large Norvina palettes do not have a cohesive color story and are not user friendly in that regard. Kevin James Bennett ( a well-known respected makeup artist) stated on his instagram that the reason ABH is pumping out so many products at once is because financial investors have dumped money into the brand and they are expecting a big return on their investment ( I assume ABH will eventually sell to another company). With that said though, I know a lot of people find the release of all these products alongside the CZcams collaborations shady toward those particular influencers but it's nothing personal against them...it's all about business at the end of the day

I'm from Argentina and here is super difficult to buy from outside of the country, so when a friend traveled to the US I asked her to buy the palette for me. Best $40 ever spent. At that time, in my country, it was literally impossible to find a matte eyeshadow (it sounds crazy but is true), and the only makeup we could find in stores was maybelline, rimmel, loreal, and revlon (it is still like that, but now there are independent brands that sell online). And also, to buy imported makeup here is super expensive: people resail it for the triple or quadruple of its original price. An Anastasia palette is literally a minimum salary. It has nothing to do with the video, but I wanted to share my sadness haha

The problem is with people who don't think before they spend their money and then get upset because they can't sustain that lifestyle. If anything we should be excited that we now have more options at various price ranges. I don't understand why people want exclusivity with brands. What happens when you wait for the one launch of the year and hate the color story? Do you just buy something you hate or wait a whole extra year in hopes that you will like the next palette more? I swear, that neon pink in the Rivera is literally in almost all of the palettes they came out with recently. I really loved that ABH didn’t color duplicate any of their products. There is new stuff coming out CONSTANTLY, I'd be broke if I bought everything. These brands are really good at striking 'sell out' fear into the wallets of consumers, so I have the attitude that if something sells out, then it does, oh well. NOTHING is so unique that I can't find something like it elsewhere anyway. Plus I already have a ton of makeup anyway. If people stop immediately buying into the hype, they'll stop making palettes so frequently.

Thank you for talking about this!!! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 I have this problem with the entire makeup industry as a whole. More people need to be talking about the overproduction of makeup products. It might seem like everyone wants a new product because influencers get sent it for free so companies see so many videos advertising products, it looks like that’s what the consumer wants is more products but most likely not the case- like you said why would we actually want to spend all our money, the consumer wants to save money in general. Let’s see these brands and influencers give back to those in need instead of launching products and caring about money money money. Instead of brand trips they could schedule brand give back to the community trips. How cool would it be for brands and influencers come together and volunteer at schools teaching kids about art, running businesses, and other new types of careers in this internet world. Or see brands and influencers volunteer at women’s shelters, homeless shelters. Volunteering to sponsor middle school & high school proms/dances the schools have. They could have makeup stations and the influencers give free makeovers to the kids who can’t afford to have their makeup done or own makeup! Enough with the greed for success, money, power, and fame. Let’s see this whole community give back please with their TIME more so than writing a check! That would be the most amazing thing to unite everyone and do good 🙏🏼
Also I think it is okay to post on social media when you are volunteering and giving back. If you advertise most parts of your life, why should it be a bad thing to post about volunteering? Even if influencers only volunteered so they looked good, their posts alone would have so much influence (pun not intended) on the younger generations to want to get out of the house and go volunteer and do good for another person. If certain big influencers made it cool to volunteer, many of their younger followers would want to follow.

I thought the purple palette was for Xmas, and there would be another in spring or something! Not another 2 giant palettes 2 seconds afterwards!
I feel sorry for the people doing collabs. They've been sold down the river, as ABH brought other palettes out at the same time, and hardly gave them a chance to sell.
They're getting greedy, and they need to stop, or they'll alienate everyone! 💖

Right? I know Jackie and Carli were super excited to get a collaboration with ABH only to drown in Norvina's nonsense.

Just left Shane’s video to watch you ❤️ I think ABH is just lowered their target demographic. I think they used to have a more mature and sophisticated but creative aesthetic. Lately I think they feel pressure to do more wild colors and release more product. It’s sad that they seemed to have abandoned their original vision.

I totally agree with this video and honestly, had the same reaction today when I heard the news of the whole gondola thing. I've been a huge ABH fan for a while and have really been amazed at their marketing genius for a long long time. Like yes the eyeshadow palettes were huge, but they did the same thing with their liquid lipsticks and highlighters as well. They released the right products in the right amount at the right times and it was beautiful to watch. I remember working at Sephora and having clients burst into tears because we didn't have the products they wanted. That's extra, but also shows the power that they had. Now, I agree that they cheapened it a lot. I think Norvina definitely wants some of the spotlight. I think she might have been a little bigger than you gave her credit for, but I always loved that her social media presence gave us a very real look into the beauty industry. She didn't position herself as an influenser, but more so as an industry pro, and I really enjoyed that a lot more than whatever the hell this is! I definitely think it was all mismanaged, but I agree with you, I feel incredibly turned off from all of it right now!

I was buying a lot of makeup for a good while and have a lot of the ABH palettes, but I realized that there was no way I could ever use all of the makeup before it expired so I stopped buying. Fortunately I missed all of this mayhem altogether! xoxo

These million releases per second have definitely made me step back from the brand, and I’m no longer interested in releases. It’s like they are Colourpop - new palette? Must be one of the days of the week that ends with Y.
Also, I wonder if it being her own Sub Brand was invented just to explain the million releases.
I can’t think of why else someone would release a bunch of things first, THEN announce it’s a sub brand.
I think Anastasia’s reputation for being really good quality would have remained intact, and hype for the Norvina products would have been higher if they’d announced the sub brand first, then released all these Norvina things on an announced date. New brand, new products!
Instead of everyone thinking the brand has lost their minds.

    Thank you!!
As a consumer their launches have given me anxiety. I have refused to buy anything from them lately. I remember getting the text notification from them on 8/6 about the Jackie Aina palette. On 8/26 they then announced Norvina pro. 1. It's too much!!!

I completely agree with you! ABH totally lost its charm to me. I own two ABH palettes and I don't intend on buying any more now. But I kind of feel like that with most beauty brands nowadays. I used to be crazy about cosmetics, I would spend a lot of time (daily) on youtube and trendmood's instagram page looking at all the new releases. A few months ago I stopped doing that - it felt like every brand out there was just trying to push out as much products and as frequently as possible, without spending time on quality and originality. As a business major in college I understand wanting to maximize your profits, but it just got too overwhelming for me and I completely lost interest. ABH is just a prime example of how beauty companies are losing track of their consumers wants and needs, and that's the sad truth. The market is crazily oversaturated at the moment, you just can't keep up anymore.

I found this video through Jen from Jen Luvs Reviews. I loved it and totally agree with you! I used to collect ABH palettes, for lack of a better word. It’s frustrating now. Also, THANK YOU for using your voice to remind people to vote. It’s so important and something everyone on YT likes to pretend isn’t a thing. So, thank you!!
