Love seeing the passion and enthusiasm. You get the sense that even if she wasn't an actor she'd still be a diehard cinema fanatic.
Makes it so much more enjoyable to watch them and their work when love it as much as the audience does.
In my experience, that's how all the people in the industry are... or they never would've got in such a difficult, competitive business. You do this thing because you love it and you _have to!_ 🥰

Overrated actress. If you can catch an actor acting in a role, they have failed, and it's easy to catch Blanchett acting in every role. Irrespective of how many Oscars she has won (modern Oscars are a joke anyway) she is not as talented as many other actresses out there
@@commanderkeen3787 I agree with you in the sense that she is obviously a theatre actor rather than a screen actor. Sometimes that doesn't translate well to the screen. Her approach to acting didn't make a good fit with a director like Linklater, but it fit perfectly with someone like Woody Allen (or Todd Field of you will).
IMO, she is easily the best and most interesting actor of her generation.
To hear Cate Blanchett saying: "That's a movie!" felt so good on so many levels.
Imagine being the director or stars of the film. I think I’d be flying high after that and never come down. :-)
They were discussing close-ups in the film Summer with Monica and I was instantly transported to the end scene of Cate's movie Carol. She is seated at the restaurant table and we see her glance and make eye contact with her lover. That scene alone raised the film to another level!

I always love when ACTORS have an expansive knowledge of films, directors, and film history. That's always seen as a director's job/passion, but Cate clearly knows her stuff.

God, imagine that as a movie: going to a video store with William Friedkin and Martin Scorsese and then after you leave, walking into a record store and finding Sir Paul McCartney and Robert Plant crate digging and talking about their finds. That'd just leave you with your brain leaking out your ears towards the end.

Fuck, I could've watched 3 hours of this. Not just film nerds, but PROFESSIONAL film nerds who can just wax endlessly about the awesomeness of the awesome. And to see that Cate Blanchett is a bigger film geek than I am with the big Carol Channing glasses and her accent slipping back and forth to American and Aussie is just pure joyousness and joyosity.
I am surprised to see Cate Blanchett being such a movie fan. Todd too as well. Also, love how they gave some love to Soviet cinema.

Went to a showing of TAR at the Adelaide Film Festival here in Australia with a Q&A at the end with Cate Blanchett. The interviewer was asking quite a few generic questions and at the end when a woman came on stage and gave her flowers Cate immediately through it into the audience😂Absolutely love her no BS attitude and integrity as an artist!
Please never stop working together. Cate was already one of my favorite actors working and Tar topped everything else I've seen from her. She demands your attention while never asking for it.

Greatest moment of my fatherhood was watching my 4 year old son discover the Marx Brothers in Duck Soup. The laughter the exploded from his little body during the multiple Groucho/mirror scene fills my heart with joy to this day years later.

For anyone who hasn’t seen Tár yet in theaters-watch it. It’s an incredible movie, unlike anything else out there at the moment.
Actually it’s one of the worst movies ever made and all the worse for convincing people like you it’s great. But maybe that makes it great because it tells us whose opinions we never ever have to pay attention to again!

@@jonahw4908 If movies were always about people who do only good things, we would be living in some kind of authoritarian state. I think this movie makes people like you mad because it's humanizing someone you find repulsive. Art is a place to do that. Art is a place is to show that we're all human beings, from the worst to the best. I also think reactions people have to this movie are more a reflection of the viewer rather than the filmmakers' actual opinions. I never truly sympathized and cried for Blanchett's character. I only empathized and saw her as a human being.
Good picks. 'Summer with Monika' is one of Bergman's best, but 'The Ascent' and 'A Man Escaped' (probably my favourite Bresson film) are fantastic. I would recommend those to anyone who hasn't checked them out.
This is exactly how me and my bestie go about movies. When he said "I would swap Fellini for Bergman with you" that brings so many memories.
I would pick "In the Bedroom". A contemporary drama like no other. Narrated and directed with great delicacy. Thanks for the return, Mr. Field.

Her acting, and his direction and writing for Tár are both absolutely stellar. I’m about to watch the film for the third time…and eagerly anticipating it.
i like the ones where they engage the camera, obviously, but the ones where they just lose their shit and ignore it entirely are a different kind of delightful

OMG... those are two of the ultimate boxsets of all times! Fellini & Bergman are 2 of my top 4 filmmakers/artists ever (along with Kubrick & Kurosawa). I got into Kubrick when I was really young but I will always cherish the Criterion Collection for getting me into Fellini, Kurosawa & Bergman back in my twenties 🥰🥰🥰🥰

With the awards she has already collected for TAR she became the most awarded actress ever in the entire film history... ( i so wish some, very few, who can't see it could transcend their narcissism...) and these awards come mainly from critic associations around the world, not HW... and on top she made it, with stage breaks, i mean lots of theatre..., and in an era where way more films are produced, where film distribution has been globalised and were very few if none of classic HW stars would have survived. its hard to imagine how serious and passionate she is for her industry while she is such a dork... if you love cinema you love actors like her. Saw (and met) many celebrities at an annual film gala, over many years, most of the biggest. Blanchett was the only one that left me starstruck with her presence. Tár is a masterpiece.

Had to laugh, as I've seen In Cold Blood well over 50 times - but never read the book still. I guess if Cate's finally going to watch the movie, I better put on my reading glasses. LOL
In Cold Blood used to run during summer weekends on network TV after the 10pm news ended. That's when I saw it as a 70s suburban kid during summer break & it was the scariest movie to me.
I got the book later as a young adult [RIP HalfPrice Books] I hope Cate got around to watching the film b/c it is a work of art. Quincy Jones score over the title sequence is A++++
