- When Sunderland plays Newcastle, the North East stands still.
And ahead of the first Tyne-Wear derby in eight years, the stakes were always going to be that much higher.
The Countdown To The Tyne-Wear Derby follows a collection of Sunderland fans 24 hours ahead of their face-off with their arch-rivals.
As kick-off ticks closer, the anxiety grows but so does the hope. All united in their love for Sunderland. And perhaps more importantly, their hatred of Newcastle.

Tell you what, I'm a Toon fan, but the way the fella put it in his car, about the love he has for his club, that his dad had, and his grandad before him, and what it means to him remembering going to Wembley with his old man brought a tear to my eye.

Newcastle and Sunderland are both massive clubs, both with an amazing amount of trophies, exceptional fans and giant stadiums. To think Sunderland brought over 40,000 fans on a 500-mile round trip to Wembley for a third tier football game!

This means Tottenham have not won any trophies in their last 60 attempts, but they're still a massive club right?

Phenomenal documentary yet again by Copa90. Really showed what it meant to us, and if you replaced every Sunderland fan with a Newcastle fan in that video I’m sure they would have said pretty much the same things.

Went as a Leeds fan.The atmosphere-created by the Sunderland fans inthe first half was the best I have witnessed.
The Newcastle fans were very quiet considering they won - my mate whose a Newcastle-fan said a lot of tickets were sold to corporates. Shame because a derby needs both fans to be up for it!

I felt the same way after last year's league cup final to be fair.
It was still enjoyable to see the unwashed down the road, being trodden on so emphatically. They may be a shit team but beating them is never boring. Even when they slide down to Sunday League pub football level. I hope we can still arrange derby games.

You missed the score line
fair play to Sunderland went from being a netflix comedy club to changing the colours of their bar to accommodate their bitter rivals. If hospitality is a prize, Sunderland are definitely going for it!

Tbf the atmosphere for the first 5 mins was decent...but Sunderland till i die...didnt last long when u couldnt get the ball and were totally outclassed...lucky it was only 3

I was adopted by a family from Sunderland. And brought up following Sunderland. Dad used to take me to roker park and used to get a cone of peanuts for 5p from the seller. Then came teens. And switched to mag. So I stay neutral in derbys. Great portrayal to the long awaited game.
