I lived on Pine Island for 3 years. The most friendly people live there. If you needed something done, someone would know someone else who could help !! There is also a coffee cart where they are giving away free coffee, lattes, etc NOW ! Be sure to tell Sheryl that her best friend recommended her awesome coffee!
Im from New Zealand, I lived at 4662 condo C in 2007 when I was 17 for a year with my Mum and her American husband. I still have the best memories of this place, fishing on the draw bridge, seing a see cow for the first time, driving on the left side of the road, going to Bubbas and being so surprised you can throw peanut Shells on the floor. I'm devastated to see it like this. I'm trying to find my old home to see if it had been damaged 💔
Was in Matlacha last year and was driving around the different streets, I stopped at a dead end and spoke with an elderly resident who owned a brick ranch house. I hope he survived along with his house.
My cousin's live on pine island stayed in there home, glad they survived this storm.there house got bottom floor damages due to water.but home was fine my cousin built his home well. Thank god they survived this storm.prayers to all there🙏🙏🙏🙏❤️❤️❤️❤️💯🇺🇲
Thank you for taking us on the tour of Pine Island and all the different places that would never get to see if not for your show and letting us see the powerful forces that nature can do, in this case it is catastrophic and wii be etched in my memory forever. Thank you and be safe and stay out of harms way! God bless.
Makes me physically ill seeing this, areas I loved gone, so happy those away from the water survived better, God Bless our lineman and other first responders they are working hard.
Unfortunately any mobile homes on Pine Island had storm surge so that they quickly grow mold. Not sure if you can restore that like you can a regular home that you can gut down to the studs.
Had to laugh at “really bad traffic in Cape Coral” I spent my teen years there back in the 70’s and there was grass growing up through all of the roads north of pine island road. We used to use those roads to race cars. There was no traffic anywhere in the cape then.
Jose, did it look like the crops or trees were destroyed on the farms on Pine Island, could you tell, any spared? The older people get, the harder it is to come back from a bad storm. Peace. 👍
Jose & Katie, ty. if you hadn't said this was Pine Island I never would've guessed it. So sad. Not the Big $$$$ income on Pine Island & Matlacha like Sanibel & Captiva.
All these people want to show the worst of everything when there are areas that actually made it through fairly well. People say St. James city was devastated and that is absolutely not true. Yes a lot of homes got water but a lot of those homes were built in the 1950s and they are still there. The flooding issue was not fun but everything is repairable as long as walls are not washed out and roofs off. The capitalization of this hurricane disgusts me. Because where I live on an island off of Tampa, is where this hurricane was forecast to go and I would hate for all these people and all these videos I see to be broadcast around my home in my neighborhood. There are more people inhibiting the progress of returning to normal, these people we see videoing who have no interest here, looters, and sightseers. Y’all need to just go home and leave it to the people who live here to get this thing cleaned up along with the help that our wonderful governor has given us to get this new journey started. Extras looking for a moment on CZcams aren’t needed.
I hear you, I really do but I think it's a double edged sword. These videos help to bring awareness and with that awareness comes donations and volunteers. I heard that the fund that DeSantis set up has something like 40 million dollars in it just from people around the country and world donating to it. How much of that is because of CZcams videos or other social media? Probably a hell of a lot! But I also understand what you mean. There's bringing awareness and then there is exploiting the situation. Not everyone is capable or willing to walk that edge in the manner that is of the most benefit to the people from there but I do believe the good outweighs the bad. ps: I think I know where you're talking about regarding the island outside of Tampa. I remember looking at it a little bit when I first considered moving to that part of Florida and it sounded like a great place to call home! You are very fortunate in that respect.
I wish you described where you were as you filmed. I am aware of the destruction but we owned a home in Matlacha Isles for a long time. Was hoping to see how our neighbors made out. Hope you get there.
Florida never ever has bad weather......... But when it does..... it's really really bad 😔... I hate it yet I love it because it is like me in that way........ Nothing in Lee and Charlotte Counties is FANCY LOL 😂😂😂😆
I wanted to see Pine Island and buy some fruits, but it looks like that plan has been dashed by the mighty wrath of nature. Not looking to visit there any time soon. Enjoyed the video and the information. The content was useful to me.
pine island looks like old homestead, florida and key largo back 30years ago it's like old south florida pretty cool video that's nice i hope they keep that never turn into big cities i might come visted there in near future that's pretty cool i'm glad the mayor pine island did that i hope they keep that way for long time.
If you want beach go to Sanibel. If you want to boat and fish go to Pine Island. Pine island has no beach. But there are lots of canals. So it has a big boating industry. And the really cool thing about boating from the island is you aren't immediately in the ocean but rather in a comparatively calm bay between Pine Island and Sanibel. So there are lots of places to go without having to get into the more treacherous ocean(gulf). I would have to say that Pine Island is like no other place in Florida. The number of houses that have docks and boats is quite large. And there are lots of people who don't have boats but rent one frequently. All the buildings and houses that were old and quaint I fear have been damaged enough that after repairs the quaintness will be gone and everything will be shiny and new. My own house was cute 1982. With 2 feet of salt water inside everything is ruined. All the quaint stuff built by the original woodworking owner is ruined and will be replaced pretty much with Home Depot replacements. Oh well. But the amazing thing is how much harder Sanibel was hit. The place we went and stayed back in the 1960's, The Outrigger (on the beach off of W. Gulf Dr.), is now just smooth sand. Not even the foundation can be seen.
Maybe one of your live streams could be donated for the community and us super chatters could donate during the stream and all donations could go to the Saint Vincent dePaul Society of St James Diocese Food Pantry and Clothes Closet ☮️🫂♥️🌹
I saw Captn Con was serving already, limited menu. Can anyone confirm? Also can you launch at the Seaport ramp? Any idea when non residents will be let back on the island?
Did you happen to see the damage in Saint James City? My exhusband used to work at Ragged Ass which was a restaurant right on the canal, its changed hands not sure the new name
WHERE is ALL that debris going to go ? And I haven’t seen ANYONE doing ANYTHING about it ! No wonder there’s flesh eating bacteria now being reported ! I think it’s going to get worse before any one does anything about it !!!
Good bye to the last place I know of in S. Florida that still had a little bit of the Florida I remember as a kid. Bit by bit since the big freeze on Christmas 1983, the landscape has changed from groves and wooden houses to trailers and condos. What comes next for Matlacha and much of the rest is...condos, condos, condos. I feel for the people who cannot rebuild within current code, and were only insured for the older home they lived in, and for people whose land has literally washed away. Land itself is uninsurable. Tampa Bay dodged the bullet again. One of these days, their turn will come, like it did in 1921. I hope they're more ready than Lee County was.

So much devastation everywhere. I fear that the gulf coast will never quite be the same; recovery and rebuilding will take years 🙏🇺🇸

thank you for making it out to PI. I've been to Matlacha once, years ago. Never went to PI though.
I am shocked to see so many mobile homes that survived the storm, thats amazing. I guess thats considered good news for some.
Many newer mobiles and modulars are built better than stick structures. 🤗
Unfortunately any mobile homes on Pine Island had storm surge so that they quickly grow mold. Not sure if you can restore that like you can a regular home that you can gut down to the studs.

Everytime I get close to moving back to Florida, something like this happens.
North Florida. Check it out. Lake City, High Springs and Alachua.
I moved to Florida in 2004- Hurricane Charley. Just moved back in May of 2022. Hurricane Ian. Geez. What luck do I have ?
And it always will happen. Bummer but true 😢
