Hormones play a massive part in hair loss and growth, most likely why you experienced it again when you were pregnant an six months after.
You have such beautiful eyes, you really don't need to have the lashes you used to have done, the ones you had on today looked really natural and they are a lot kinder to your own eyelashes.

Thank you for sharing this Kate. We've just experienced this with my youngest daughter (she's 15) she found a patch the size of a 10p piece on the top of her head, fairly noticeable as it was right on her parting. She was devastated and asked me to look through her hair for any more. We found another one slightly bigger😢 although it was less noticeable at the back of her head.
For the first few days she was awful. She was prescribed steroid cream from the doctor and used it religiously. She moved her parting over slightly, but was still convinced everyone could see it. This was in January and we checked it regularly and noticed that wispy bits were starting to grow. It's now all grown back and she's obviously really relieved but I think she still worries that it may happen again. For her I think that's the worst thing. No matter how much I was telling her not to worry and she was gorgeous no matter what, she was really self conscious. She also has a great sense of humour so that helped. So glad you shared this. In my 20's my hair was very thick with a lot of natural wave all the way down to my waist. After I had my kids I noticed more and more hair in my brush after I washed my hair or just brushed it. I did what you did and had it cut, which helped a lot and it stopped falling out but, only for a few years. It started again so I went to my doctor and was tested for Alopecia. I never had any bald spots and the test came back negative for Alopecia. Mine is due to genetics and stress from another genetic disorder passed from my mama to me and my 3 sisters, of Severe anxiety/panic attacks and ocd. Had my first panic attack at 4 1/2. It was horrible! Don't remember anything else about that age.Some of my You Tube friends know about my disorder but some people that have never had it just can't understand it so, I don't even try to explain it. I take medication for it but certain situations, colors and other things can trigger it. I wouldn't wish it on my worse enemy. So, my hair is thinner than it was but I can deal with it and I try to keep my stress and disorder down. Thanks so much for sharing your story. Hugs from the Southeast coast of Florida🌴😎💙😎🌴

It must have been devastating for you as a young woman Kate! It's lovely that you use humour to get through things, we all use different techniques to get us through the bad times. Myself, I try to think of the silver linings in things! This will be some comfort to people who suffer from Alopecia! I worked with a lady years ago that had Alopecia and she had lost all of her hair, eyelashes and eyebrows and wore wigs and false eyelashes! Glad your hair came back for you! I stayed because you are always so kind, and concerned for the wellbeing of your subscribers. So refreshing, in a place where it's easy to come up against people being rude to each other.
Thanks for sharing your story. It's so important to know you're not the only person going through a thing. I agree that having humour about the situation is the way forward. I currently have total alopecia, because of chemotherapy. I'm going to be OK, I hope, so the hair should grow back when the treatment stops. I decided not to do wigs. My friends and I joke about becoming Skin (from the band Skunk Anansie), who is altogether much more punk than Sinead O'Connor who is the other famous shaven headed woman. Also how much money I'm saving on shaving and waxing etc. I've also had a lot of help in improving my makeup skills, which were non-existent before the treatment.
Thanks again for being so open, and giving people the hope that it's going to be OK.

Thanks Kate. Three weeks ago a small patch of my hair fell out. I have short hair and have been feeling so low about it. I'm the only person going out in a hat in hot weather. I feel sick that someone will notice and it's made me anxious. You've made me feel a little better I'm not alone. Not brave enough to go without the hat though yet.

My daughter has alopecia! Her hair was gorgeous thick and very long! Lost after her first child ! Started growing when pregnant the second time! Then lost it 3 months after the birth! Her eyebrows and lashes! She copes amazingly so proud of her! X

Aww, bless you for talking about this. I’m sure it will help people suffering with the same thing. My mum was a hairdresser and spoke about how devastating alopecia can be but that it can be short lived. Your hair always looks fab! 💚🧡

Thanks for sharing this Kate. I lost a huge amount of hair a couple of years ago after spending 4 months in hospital. I was critically ill at the time but t was when I got home that my hair fell out! Doctors put it down to ‘trauma’ and slowly it grew back. I was in hospital again at the start of this year for almost 5 months and the same thing has happened. Funny thing is though this time my hair is growing back blond like I was as a small child and baby, not the the brown that I have been spending a fortune on highlighting blond! I do have chronic health problems but normally my hair doesn’t suffer too badly. It can be very distressing when you’re going through it but for lots of people the hair does grow back. My heart goes out to anyone going through it. 👍👏🏻🤗

Thank you for sharing your story with us. My Daughter lost a lot of hair (no bald patches) just before starting secondary school, when it started to grow back it came back wavy. She now is back to straight, really thick hair, there is always hair everywhere but I think being her hair is long it looks worse than what it is. Also she has never had this happen since then xx

Bless you and thank you for showing us your vulnerability. It really does help. I've lost about 50 percent of my hair due to thyroid condition. Its so thin and you definitely can see my scalp at the front. I can't help but think the medicine is causing it since it's happened at the same time as starting treatment. I'm told no by the doctors so all I can do is trust them and hope my hair will somehow recover.
You're brilliant by the way, a natural entertainer and an all round general nice person. You always make me laugh with your silliness too :) XXX

I haven’t had alopecia but when my iron levels got really low I lost a lot of hair. My hair is fine but I have loads of it so it looks thick and full. Over the space of a few months I was loosing loads of hair. In the shower I would loose a full palm full each time. My hair did get really thin and straggly looking. My pony tail thickness was about half of what it was before.
Once I got my iron levels sorted out my hair started to thicken back up again. I get prescription iron from the doctor as it’s a higher dose than the normal supplements you can buy. I’ve had to go back another 3 times since the initial hair loss. Now it’s not so bad because I know what to look out for (low iron symptoms) so I catch it before I loose too much hair again.

My friend had alopecia and it was caused by a vitamin b12 deficiency as soon as there gp gave them monthy injections of b12 it grew back alopecia is never spoken about a lot thanks for being so honest lovely kate!! 🙋♀️😃👍💖💖💖💖 xxxxx

Hello! Thank you for sharing your story 😍😍 My daughter lost her lashes when she was about ten. I thought she'd cut them 🙈🙈. They just came back. She gets quite anxious and she used to bite her nails poor little girl😢♥️. Kate don't worry about your hair, lashes etc. You're a pretty, sweet lovely girl (or woman 😉) you don't need to worry about anything. I'm very glad you're not going to put any lash extensions on, you really don't need them, your pretty smiling eyes don't need them. My friend's sister is loosing her hair gradually from her forehead, she's bought lovely scarves and puts them on. As you she's so sweet, lovely and bubbly that her personality takes over and you don't even think about her hair. Sometimes we think things notice a lot and people don't even notice and if they do nobody really bothers. Take care, lots of love ♥️♥️♥️

I lost a lot of my hair when my Mum passed away obviously it was stress and grief was so scary when showering and it was coming out in my hands. I used some natural treatments for my scalp and it really helped. But I do notice when I get stressed it starts to come out again. Thanks for sharing your personal story Kate xxx

I had lovely long hair like you and I got alopecia at 13 yrs old. I had to have all my hair cut off and it’s never recovered. I was bullied so bad at school like what had happened was my fault, I couldn’t do anything about it and had to put up with the bullying. Now I’m older my hair is still short and I’ve learned to cover the bald patches up, I would do anything to have long hair again but here I am. Thank you for telling your story it gives others hope xx

Thank you kate I can imagine at the time it must have been very scary for you but the good side is that if it happens it grows back and if it happens color the spot to blend with your hair colour there was a young boy where I live who got it I did not know or understand it but hes hair was all cut off which made it look worse I suppose he's parents did not know what to do and now hes fine today with the brush in colour it's great to have and to remember it will grow back thank you for sharing your such a brave and lovely lady.big hugs to you mags in Ireland xx 👍❤🇮🇪⚘⚘⚘⚘👏

Well done Kate. I had alopecia when I was younger .And lost alot of hair and my eyebrows. Most of my hair did grow back ,apart from one patch .And my eyebrows fell out. Which there still thin and got loads of gaps .so always pencil them . But just as they starting to grow thick they will fall out again. They do say stress can play a part in getting alopecia. Don't know if that's true. Glad you did this vlog .😁 Xxx

Mine all fell out due to chemo just starting to grow back but very grey I freaked when I got diagnosed with breast cancer but not for the cancer but that I was going to lose all my hair but I always see the funny side in things and that's what gets me through currently at home recovering from a mastectomy been in since December got another 12wks to go arrrg oh did I mention had covid 19 to lol can't think what else I could have but there's always people worse than yourself be grateful for your health xxx

Thanks for sharing. I didn't have alopecia, but I got sepsis a couple of years ago and was hospitalised and I lost a lot of hair. Now my hair is so thin and my scalp gets easily sunburnt, but if you apply sunscreen, it looks greasy and dirty. I feel like you at the end where you say it seems see-though, especially at the front. Hoping it comes back some day as it used to be so thick.
Sorry to hear that ❤️ i found a really good factor 30 hair and scalp sunscreen spray thing a few years ago... in home bargains - the brand was Malibu - you can get it online too ❤️ hope it all comes back for you soon xx

I had alopecia when I was in my early '20's, it's scary. I'm 52 now, nothing since 😊 My daughter lost 95% of her hair due to psoriasis caused by medication when she was 19, she wore wigs or hats. It grew back though and is now shoulder length 😊

Hi Kate I have alopecia I have a massive bald patch right in the centre of the top of my head and I have a receding hair line I’ve spent years trying to cover it with my other hair I try and have my hair up as much as I can to cover it I went and see a specialist and they said the hair follicles are dead and it will never grow back I also have pros so it seems to be a hormone problem with me unfortunately with the pros I have hair grow in places it shouldn’t and it doesn’t grow where it should it’s great hearing other people’s story’s I do what you do laugh about it but deep inside it hurts but I’ve learnt to live with it xx

That was an interesting video about Alopecia from a patient point of view as working in Pathology and we see cases all the time of Alopecia but it was interesting to know how it started as different people have different stories about how it all started. But a person who has been through it know better how it started and how to deal with.....

Mine took a year to go got it three times due to stress I’m worried it will come back again there’s always a chance it will I loose a lot of hair whilst washing it’s been 3 years now since it happened nothing as of yet stress is a big role

Exactly the same happened to me on the crown of my head, I was around 35 at the time so it must be 30 years ago, like you I didn't know until someone pointed it out to me, the doctor gave me no explanation but he gave me a clear liquid that had to be massaged into the spot, my hairdresser had seen it but didn't like to say anything, I wish she had! anyway like you I was paranoid that people were looking at me which they weren't really, when it was growing back it was blond & fine like baby hair but then as it grew back properly it was just as normal, it's never happened since but when I think about it there was a lot going on at the time with work so maybe it was a stress thing?

It’s mad what the human body will do ... my dad had this years ago, he developed a very large bold patch and was told by the dr it was alopecia. He was also told it was 50/50 if it would grow back .... it was bold for several months but when it grew back it was Snow White! I mean like a snow man or Santa’s beard white! ... the dr said it would always be white if that’s how it’s come back... he looked like a skunk for the next two years then it fell out again... the maddest thing is it grew back dark ! He stayed dark for another 20 years before turning grey with age 😮
