Its one of the best cars ive had so far. I'm surprised the X-Type didn't do better - it was aimed at the upper end (but obvs not the top end) of the company car market - and while there was strong competition from Audi A3s, Series 3 Beemers, and the C Class Merc - the X-Type was a good bit cheaper and was based on a platform that fleet managers had absolute trust in for years.

      However BMW and Rover did a much better job than Ford and Jaguar did. Hell the 75 is more frequently compared to the more expensive S-Type over it's actual rival. That says a lot.
      It was it's own unique platform, not reworking something else in the range like Ford did.
      The X-Type will forever (unfairly) be painted as the Mondeo Vanden Plas even though it's fairly far detached from the Mondeo.

      Yes, there are always too many silly reasonably priced four wheel drive manual sporty estates on the market. We' need more gorgeous cars that are designed to look like a practical off road sports coupe based on hatchback but with chopped rear headroom and a raised center of gravity and 18 inch wheels to loo like a hypercar offering decreased practiality, increased price, poor accident avoidance capability and ride. Estates are silly, who needs a vehicle that can actually be practical, technically capable and efficient in one package if you can legitimately sell more niche vehicles that create almost 50 percent or just about 10 tons more co2 under production than an old conventional vehicle and label it as a zero emission vehicle because upmarket world saving overpriced child slave labor cobalt and nickel mining product is just what a millennial needs, another cliche

    I'm Swedish and experience winters with lots of snow from time to time. Sometime you had time to make preparations, sometimes not. BUT IMO the only stuff you'll need is a shovel, a blanket (just in case) an elastic tow line, winter tires and *maybe* two small carpets. You can easily fit it in a storage box in the boot of the car. And If you don't live like 50 km into the woods where it snows almost 1 meter per day (looking at you, Canada and Alaska) you don't need more. Just winter tires alone makes all the difference when driving on snow and icy roads. FWD or RWD manages just fine as long as there is winter tires on the car. Both FWD and RWD is scary as hell to drive when it's slushy snow with summer tires.
    "But we only get snow 3 days a year." Very possible, but the snow itself isn't the "real" danger, it's the ice.

      It's more about highway instability, I live really far from my home because of school and my mom's FWD car actually had exactly that heart stopping moment Clarkson talks about in the video. It's actually scary, and it's just because of how FWD works (all the power in the front without traction, and the back wheels just dragging uselessly). Luckily mine is a 4wd. Actually the saloon version of this car xD

    I guess it depends on regulations. I know in some places for example Studded Winter Tires are illegal (because of the possibility that they would damage the road), so winter drivers in such places will have to make do with something less grippy (or, improvise).

    • @a_single_white_female
      @a_single_white_female Před rokem +1

      There are studded and non studded winter tires. Studded are banned in many places, but non studded winter tires perform exceptionally and RWD, FWD, or AWD make by far the biggest difference. This show consistently discredits that tires are the single most important factor for winter driving.
