  • YOO what is up everyone! in this Rolling/Sparring Video Breakdown I talk about my rolling match with my Brown Belt teammate. This is Rolling/Sparring Video number 19. This is a Purple Belt v Brown Belt sparring video breakdown.
    I've been a Purple Belt since 2019 and also moved out to California to train. I will be brining Rolling/Sparring Video Breakdowns to the channel on a regular basis so stay tuned for more! I'm always looking to improve and what better way to do that than to post my rolls on the internet for people to watch and dissect. What could go wrong? lol
    My Brown Belt teammate really favors my passing game and I try my best to navigate how best to beat it. I also really enjoy narrated jiu-jitsu videos where you can follow my train of thought during the rolling/sparring.
    In this video I show the importance of framing and being calm in side control because I am put there a lot and was actually successful in achieving side control escapes against a bigger opponent!
    If you have any comments leave them in the comment section and think about subscribing to the channel and hitting the notification bell so you don't miss out on any of my videos.
    I hope you guys like the video and strive to be 1% better everyday! Thanks for watching! Peace!

      Appreciate the support! I’ve settled on uploading once a week and going for quality rolls over quantity. Going to spend some time focusing on some no gi rolls after this one.

    Good one, thanks! I'm currently working on escapes against bigger opponents as I have been getting stuck in side control and mount so this was useful. I'm a white belt so still working those fundamentals! Sometimes, when pinned by heavier opponents in I seem to forget all my techniques, I think its the pressure of their weight!

      Trust me under heavy black belts like Thiagoi found it very hard at times to focus on getting out and making frames to get out so the struggle is real at all levels 😂😂
      As for the basics in my journey I definitely spent a ton of time on them at white and middle blue but then veered a little to see what fit into my game and what I liked. Now being purple I’m seeing that what I like and am good at are the fundamentals so it’s really come kinda full circle.

    As a 2 stripe white belt who loves watching tape I really enjoy your narrated videos. It really helps to know what you are going for and trying to avoid and all the other bits of tips you throw in there.
    Side note: I also like defending the back take by turning into one of their legs. I usually clamp their leg with my knees and I end up in top half which I like playing, however the over/under pass seems so versatile and gets you in a better position without having to fight to get there so I will try it. Thanks again for taking your time to share.

      Thanks for the comment man! My goal when I started was mainly to see where I needed work and understand my thought process better. Now it’s to show bits of technique that I use to help others develop their game.
      I defend the back take many times by turning into the person. I used to clamp the legs but when I learned the over under it just naturally leads itself to that position from the back attack. I like it because I can take a bad position and turn it right into an offensive one with little to no effort.

      @@ursinhobjj I saw that you have an instructional video showing how you do the over under pass, but do you have a video that shows how you do the pendulum sweep? I've seen you use many time when you play guard and take someone's left arm across the center line. It look like you try to take the back and if that doesn't work you pull the trigger on the sweep and come to mount ( both great positions either way).
      I too like learning techniques that take you from a bad position into a more favorable one that I can attack from.

      @ursinhobjj  Před 2 lety +1

      So I’m going to make a small instructional on the over under since I use it a lot. If it’s received well I may do one for the pendulum sweep too. What I do for that is I take the left or right arm across the centerline and then what I try to do is take the back. That’s where I want to end up, if I can get up on top and they don’t fight to pull the arm out I take the back. If they do fight to get the arm back by driving into me that’s when I go for the pendulum sweep to get to mount.

    You two had a awesome roll really couldn't say much as far as tips other than judging by the way he grapples against you I bet he had strong grips against a larger opponent especially if he's a higher belt don't let him get his grips on you that's why he got that x guard on you and swept you, overall you did manage to get the upper hand on him as far as positioning, like you said just don't get too greedy when you get his back focus maintaining back control

    • @ursinhobjj
      @ursinhobjj  Před 2 lety

      Addressing the grips is something I need to really focus on. Sometimes I don’t because I think I can use speed and get to where I want without worrying about them. It’s a bad habit obviously haha
