  • THIS IS MY 1980 FIREPOWER PINBALL MACHINE. I HAVE OWNED THIS GAME SINCE 2000. THIS GAME WAS A DEAD GAME COVERED IN DIRT WHEN I GOT IT. HAD TO DO SOME WORK TO THE CPU TO GET IT WORKING. ONLY TWO UPGRADES I HAVE INSTALLED WAS A NEW REPRO BACKGLASS AND UPDATED SPEECH AND SOUND BOARD. THIS IS MY FAVORITE PINBALL MACHINE OF ALL TIME. THIS WAS A GAME I LOVED TO PLAY WHEN IT FIRST CAME OUT AND WAS A MUST HAVE IN MY COLLECTION. FIRST GAME WITH LANE CHANGE AND THE FIRST SOILD STATE MULTIBALL. CLASSIC WILLIAMS SOUNDS AND THE BEST BACKGLASS ARTWORK EVER. THIS GAME STILL HOLDS UP TODAY AND IS VERY FAST AND FULL OF ACTION. THIS GAME GETS PLAYED THE MOST IN MY COLLECTION. THIS ONE WILL NEVER LEAVE MY COLLECTION.

    My god I love this machine. It tries to play every sound effect the 80s could muster at the same time and sounds like a trainwreck for it, absolute blast to play lol

    A truly great pinball machine. And didn’t notice until now that at least one of the sounds is identical to that in the video game Defender!

    I first played Firepower I was 8 years old, which was back in 1980-81. It was also $0.50 to play since the came was brand new. Also when I first played it I achieved multiball, and there was a teenager watching me play it and he couldn't believe his eyes, and as I was doing mulitball, two more teanagers walked to the game and also saw it and coudln't believe it, and the teen, who was watching before the other teens showed up said to them "Look at his score" which was about 350,000.
    That game is also one of my all time favorites and it as seen at many locations including arcades, bars, bowling centers and ice cream parlors.

    I've played quite a few pinball machines in my younger days, but Firepower was always my go-to game. And in video games, it was Ms. Pac-Man and Robotron 2084. Haven't played/heard the sound effects from Firepower in years, but after watching this video, man, such similar sound effects to Robotron. Would love to get my hands on this pinball machine for my basement.

    i have a firepower, high-speed, bride of pinbot, jokerz, and apollo 13.
    i enjoy them all but my favorites have to be firepower and high-speed. for their day they were absolute A-list titles and have aged very well, if you appreciate pinball and aren't stuck on the glitz the new games offer. the new pinball machines are great but so are the classics.

    Yep this is my personal favourite too, picked one of these up many years ago, repainted it with stencils, playfield cleaned and looked great, cpu fixed, lost interest as scoreboards played up, flippers I thought I could fix, I couldn't and I am mainly into old skool vids, sold on to a retro arcade guy from Southend Essex UK to which I believe is now up and running for the public to play. Excellent video, superb quality retro Williams game from the good old days, enjoy, I would, am I jealous of you, yes I am, cheers

    • @727PENGO
      @727PENGO  Před 4 lety

      Back then not all Williams games had the same color inserts or pop bumper cap colors. Usually Williams would change iitems depending if it was a early model vs a later model or export model. Sometimes it's just random. I have owned three Williams Jungle Lords and all of them had a different color insert for one or two features. I have seen Firepower with purple and blue but the purple seems to be more commom for what I have seen over the years.

      If coins are not used, then credits can be added manually by trigging the credit switch inside the coin door or the free play setting can be turned on through the programming settings.

    Firepower....dam what a pinball machine. I remember 40 years ago (I was 11 at the time ) when I played this at an arcade in Dowagiac, MI...and I sanked big time...my personal all time score: 24,458 points 🥴. The secret to successful playing is to be patient.....ULTRA PATIENT...and not let the sfx ( especially the beginning "FIREPOWER!" ) get to you. So I tried again, and I've improved. My personal all time score: 877,430 points....AFTER 5 REPLAYS 😁....JUST! This is a great pinball machine, I like this over Firepower 2 ( I won't go over the details.....I was terrible 😖 ) truly one of Williams' Best 80's Pinball Machines. Firepower, a Power Keg Pinball Machine Legend from 41 Years Ago...💥 indeed!

    In early youth you lost all your monthly pocket money? METOO! :-)))
    What ingenious machines Williams built back then. The second addiction was the "Jungle Lord"... But these machines gave a lesson to me: Never enter a casino! Result: I never entered a casino. :-) Thank you father for dragging me out of the inn by my ears. *repend*

    I just bought this machine yesterday. I love it reminds me of being a kid again. Where did you get your upgraded auto card from and do you know if the make a shaker motor or any other upgrades for it?

    • @727PENGO
      @727PENGO  Před 2 lety +3

      The coin card that's on my apron was something I printed myself around 15 years ago from the web. There are a few sites out there that offer the factory original and custom instruction/coin cards to print yourself or to purchase. A shaker motor is not available for any of these early system games. Even if there was a shaker motor available it would not be a good idea since the shaking would destroy the artwork on the back glass since the displays and wires pretty much, rub against the paint on the backglass. On later games that came with factory shaker motors they did not have this problem. Adding a shaker motor is not necessarily the best mod to add to any pins. I have seen many Pinballs Machine cabinets break apart or wood split from all of the vibration. This gets worse over time when the glue and wood start to age. As far as upgrades there is stuff like Led bulbs, Led displays, or newly design circuit boards. As far as the Led bulbs some people love them, and some people hate them. I am not a fan since it changes the look and feel of the game, they strobe too much, and they break too easily are just a few cons. I only use them to enhance a feature on a game if it looks good, but not to LED the entire game. Led displays is only needed if you need to replace a bad display. Only problem is you cannot mix the gas display with the LED ones on these Williams games. You have to replace all of the displays with a complete LED display kit. Today gas displays are getting very hard to come by and can force a Pinball Owner to switch to LED if they choose not to hunt down a NOS or a used one. I like the idea of going LED, but I just don't like the funky look it gives to the backglass and it's just not sharp and bright as the originals. I do not mind the LED displays as much on the later games when they were mounted on the speaker panel instead. Updating the circuit boards again is only necessary if you have a board that went out and the choice is made to replace the board instead of getting the original fixed. For me on these 70's and 80's games I try to keep them as factory original as possible, so they keep that overall look and feel of that era.

    why does this machine score better than some 1990 games on pinside? well maybe for a 80s game it was like wow .. we came from the em time this game is amazing.. but better than dr who ? no way

    • @727PENGO
      @727PENGO  Před rokem +1

      Just because 90's games had more stuff on it, or a licensed theme does not make it a better game or a lasting game. Even though I own 90's games and grew up playing EMs to today's machine's I still enjoy playing the late 70's and 80's games the most. It's also just a personal preference. I enjoy these early games because it's the last of true classic pinball experience. Firepower to me is the best game ever made but on the flip side I also think Williams Indiana Jones is the best game but would rank them the same. Firepower gets played the most when people come down to play my collection because it's an attractive inviting machine. I like Firepower because it does not have a license theme. I am not a fan of license theme's because sometimes it makes a not so good of a game popular. The artwork and theme on this game is excellent and I think it has the best artwork on a backglass ever made. The sounds are totally the best. It's fast and fun and has some great features like, multi-ball and lane change which was a first on a S.S. game. When this game came out it was amazing, but today for me it totally holds up with the newer games and is just as fun if not more. If Firepower is still ranked high, then it does prove how good of a game it is and the lasting power it has.

       @Doug's Home Arcade Collection
      well. some em games score a 7 or 8 and some new stern games score 6.5 to 7,
      i see it like. for an em game of that time its a 8..
      and compared to other 2010+ games this stern is a 6,5.
      for me. just like for many... flow is important. you see older games where designed for playing faster, keep the money flowing in. some system 11 games you have a hard time lasting more than 10 15 min. while attack from mars you can play longer.. easy multi ball. nice risk/points balance
      and those new pinball machines .. people stream 1+ hour with 1 game,
      i must say for example.. my road kings i do like it.. i play like max 25min on it. but its fun to get multi ball, time lock and try to get as many points.. of course ball save and multiplier and hold bonus can keep you busy. not very deep but nice.. so much nicer than all those em games.. top100 em would beat road kings in score..better? hell no
      and what you say newer is not better. true, quite allot gottlieb games failed because of lack of flow, or unbalanced ruleset, or easy ball draining.. etc

    What is lane change?

    • @727PENGO
      @727PENGO  Před rokem

      Lange change moves the light for each lane. If a ball is about to drop in a lane that's already lit you can move that light to another lane and swap it with a lane that is not lit.
