  • THIS IS MY 1979 SEGA MONACO GP ARCADE MINI CABARET VIDEO GAME. I HAVE OWNED THIS SINCE 1990. THIS IS THE SECOND ARCADE GAME I EVER PURCHASED. ONE OF MY FAVORITE DRIVING GAMES. THIS GAME WAS AMAZING IN 1979 WITH FULL COLOR, GREAT GRAPHICS AND SOUNDS. THIS MACHINE HAS A COUPLE OF GLITCHES THAT HAVE HAPPEND AS THE YEARS HAVE GONE BY BUT STILL PLAYS GREAT.

    That engine sound is the best engine sound I've heard on just about any racing game even today! (Now the car passing is unpleasant but who should complain?!)

    Used to play the stand up all the time at the bowling alleys. Loved the sound of the car in the tunnels. Never seen the sit down version in the wild.

      I play grand champion by taito which is similar to this game which came out 2 years later but not as graphically impressive as this game. I played the game on a very similar cabinet to Monico gp

    Loved that game, remember that version rather than the cockpit. You play a decent game of it yourself too.

    Used to play this same stand up version at Astroworld. I never knew Monaco GP was a real Formula 1 race in Monte Carlo until I got older.

    Blast Processing! SEGA does! Wait... this thing doesn't even have a CPU :-D
    Great driving skills, some really close calls there!
    I'm currently fixing three of these machines at the Arcademuseum in Seligenstadt Germany. Our "default" machine is missing the ice sound and the second "other car" sound (btw. these are supposed to be two different frequencies, so there might be another problem on your sound board, these tantalums often go leaky and then stuff is missing or sounds wrong). It's been running like this all the time but now I got to fix the other two, it becomes clear that it should sound different.

      Hey, came to ask that! I remember playing this one back in the early 80's as a little kid at my mall. With time I got into emulators and have been looking for it since the early MAME days, to this day haven't found it.
      And did read at a forum somewhere years ago that you won't find a SEGA Monaco GP ROM ANYWHERE; because it never existed, since the arcade game runs on purely hardware without a CPU! So, it sounds like I will never be able to play it again since the arcade gallery where I played it, it's long gone. Lol
      So, it was true. No ROM, no CPU. Interesting! Thanks!

      @727PENGO  Před 2 lety +2

      Monaco GP is one of the last games that does not have a CPU, Microprocessor, or ROMS. Due to this there is no way to play this game on MAME. There are four very large PC boards inside this game. Two for the game, one for the sounds, and one for the scores. It's pretty much a ton of TTL IC Chips on these boards that make everything work instead of ROMS. Some early games like my Sea Wolf have a CPU with ROMS but the sound board does not. So, on MAME Sea Wolf can be emulated since it has ROMS, but the game will not have sounds. Recorded sounds samples have to be used in order to have sounds on MAME for some of these early video games.

      @@727PENGO should I pickup the sit down version? It's probably missing monitor and I would probably put a CRT and Pandora box with multiple racing games.
      The side art is in good shape

      If you are looking to play Monaco GP, the only way to do so is to have a working original dedicated machine. There is no way to play Monaco GP any other platform since this game does not use or have a game rom.

    I remember that game were in the argentinia arcades aswell... but was't a cockpit style cabinet? I remember to be sitdown... anyway what got my attention was all those numeric displays like pinball has.

    O arcade que chegava aí pra vcs era mais refinado do que chegava América do Sul. O jogo era o mesmo, mas o formato do arcade era diferente

      I was decent at it when this came first came out. I would usually get to the first bridge but that was about it. Driving games was and is still one of my favorite video games to play. I have pretty much played them all. Monaco GP was always one of my favorite driving games to play in the Arcades and is a game that still holds up today. When I purchased this machine in the late 80's I played it a ton. I got better at it, and I developed more skills then just driving pedal to the metal. Since the mid 90's I very rarely play it since I have so many other games in my collection to play, but when I get on this machine today, I still have fun playing it and I am still on a mission to get even better at it.

    Just picked one up last night, mine keeps going after time runs out, must be extra cars earned you were talking about?

    • @727PENGO
      @727PENGO  Před 2 měsíci +1

      If you have earned extra cars then the game will end once you used up your extra cars. If you did not earn any extra cars then the game will end once the timer runs out.

    What kind of sound system is this?

    • @727PENGO
      @727PENGO  Před 23 dny

      This machine does not use sound roms. All the sounds are analog created by a huge sound board that has a bunch of IC chips. The boards in this game were made for this game only and are not interchangeable to work in other games unlike ROM based games that came out later.
