Haibike SDURO Trekking 4.0 Review - $2.5k

  • The Haibike Trekking 4.0 is one of the most affordable Haibike models... but it offers quality fenders, rear rack, integrated LED lights, hydraulic disc brakes, and a 10-speed Shimano drivetrain with one-way clutch. The headlight has side windows to improve your visibility and I love the reflective stripes on the tires, the frame and fork are paint-matched and even the saddle has matching accents. This e-bike comes in five frame sizes across two frame styles (high-step and mid-step), the battery and motor keep weight low, it operates very quietly and efficiently, Yamaha motors have a good reputation for being reliable. The PWseries motor can only reach 100 RPM vs. 120 RPM on the PW-X or Bosch Performance motors, the Yamaha charger is a bit large and heavy with a more vulnerable connector, the suspension fork is entry-level spring design but does include lockout and preload adjust.

    I have a HAIBIKE SDURO Trekking 5.0, and I am very pleased with it. I use it mostly for commuting but also for longer trips, both on asphalt, dirt roads and trails. My bike has the Bosch CX engine and is probably the best part on the bike. When I looked at your review, I realise that 4.0 and 5.0 differ more than I thought. It would be really interesting to see you doing a review of 5.0 when many of the other parts on the bike are different (even though I already made my choice of bike :)
    I really appreciate your reviews, you make them interesting and enjoyable to watch. (Greetings from Midnight Sun Sweden)

    Now on my third week with this bike. Seventy years old and two hip replacements. Biking in Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine became unenjoyable because I was losing strength and stamina. This has been a great turn-around! I can cruise up inclines at 10+/- mph very comfortably. No rides beyond 20 miles yet but as I improve conditioning, longer rides will soon be very doable. I will not be taking any gnarly trails, but have been on numerous gravel roads and two dirt trails. It surprised me how easily I could start on upslopes with the assist. Your videos were a great help in selecting an appropriate e-bike for me. One thing I have not seen is whether or not riding in rain is a concern. Any advice there?

      Gary Burt totally agree matey. Am just gone 60 . Live in very hilly terrain here in Scotland and ebiking has extended our biking opportunity, our bike experience! I live near the 2018 MTB course designed and created for 2014 commonwealth games. At 60, ebiking allows me the MTB experience as well. Awesome, so much fun. Happy Eeeeeeeebike Gary

    The Michelin Protek Cross is the all-trail tire for maximum control and ease of rolling. The "All Terrain" tread pattern means it can be used on all types of terrain in all weathers both on and off road. The 3D cutting of the tread pattern gives great tread block mobility for maximum grip in all circumstances and the 1mm anti-puncture reinforcement gives effective protection for everyday use.

      I kinda first only asked for opinions on the bike and I think I created the thread in the wrong subforum, I do have the same name in the forums ;)
      My next ebike will be a haibike too, but fullsuspension.

    Since I just got my Haibike SDURO 7.5 (with my research on what to get widely based on your fabulous video reviews) I would love to hear what you have to say about that SDURO iteration. Greetings from Switzerland!

    I have the 2017 model and overall I really like the bike. The crank centric motor does create extra stress on the chain and the cassette. I change both out each riding season and I carry a spare chain (learned this the hard way). Lots of steep hills where I ride so I’m pretty hard on the drive train.

    I have had this model for the past 2 years and it's my first bike. I believe I got the larger frame because the store cut the seat post down so it could sit at the lowest. I didn't know they came in different frame sizes. I think my bike has a Bosch motor though. I've been loving it as it gets me out and around the town and bike trails and I can go farther with the ebike assist. We have a lot of Rails to Trails here so they're pretty level and I don't use the assist once I have gotten into better shape but it's still great to have it there when I just feel lazy or am fighting a headwind. The headlight is probably my biggest peeve about the bike. It gets loose and rattles a lot. I've tightened it with some different screws and nuts but it has finally snapped off. I'll probably try to find a replacement to put on the handle bar.

    Available for $1999 at Motostrano. Would like to see the reviewers be just tough on some of the value net only Chinese bikes (like Add Motor) as this review. Very tough. 2X cost, but I prefer the 9.0.

    I may be buying this bike in the UK and my only gripe with it is the paint design--which I am not a fan of--but I like the specifications.

    Hello! Thanx this video! I want buy Sduro Trekking, but not 4.0 version. Do not make videos about other versions, or a comparative video with 6.0 and 8.0?. All of them have Yamaha motor, but 8.0 is have Yamaha PW SE. Greetings from Hungary (and sorry or bad english:)!

    Where does one go to buy a 2nd battery (in video you mentioned 2nd battery at ~1:40)? Haibike website does not list any. I am reluctant to purchase a Haibike because I can't buy extra battery. Now considering Ride1up.

    The range estimates for this bike seem rather... optimistic. At least for normal use to optimize battery life. For comparison, I have a very similar bike with a similar motor system - Giant's entry level Dirt E2. Going from 90% to 30% in optimum ambient temperature gets me about 30 miles on flat terrain if I rely quite heavily on the Sport setting and go no faster than 15.5 mph.

    oooh, i like this and had a fantastic BIG display that also does percentage!
    I wonder if you can opt for the larger 500w battery on purchase?
    Also can you add bigger tyres?

    • @ElectricBikeReview
      @ElectricBikeReview  Před 6 lety +1

      I think you can swap out the tires if you wish, not sure on battery upgrades... I think the interface is forward compatible to larger packs from Yamaha but not sure if you can just pay extra for a larger pack right off the bat. Maybe a shop or owner will know?

    In 2017 I bought a sduro 7.0 ebike. I initially asked at Haibike support for information for installing a child seat, Haibike support replied that they did not authorize the installation of child seats but that the only authorized way was by trailer. This year I bought a Hamax trolley but I found that it is impossible to install the attachment on the wheel hub due to interference with the stand support. The only solution is to remove the stand, but it is impossible to replace it with one to be fixed on the rear frame due to the shape and size of the frame. At this point I requested information to Haibike and after more than 20 days and 5 emails I have not received any response. Have you any suggestion?

  • @derbersdiscoveries5938

    Nice bike but, I'm glad I didn't get it. I ordered a Voltbike Enduro instead. Thanks for the details. I feel better about my purchase bc I can upgrade the components to better FS parts with the money I saved under $2.5k...

    Love your videos. I have a question about the battery. If you run the battery down to nothing, can you still recharge it. My wife’s ebike (genze) battery if you forget about it and it is totally dead then it won’t take a charge. I’m thinking there’s a fail safe built into the battery

    • @1karlturgeon
      @1karlturgeon Před 5 lety

      Most likely you haven't charge it in a long time or you overcharge the battery too many times( forget to revove the cable from the charger).
