  • In this video, I will be working on our next big structure for the 2021 haunt season. The church is modeled after old abandoned American churches and rises up to 21 feet in the air! I will only be building the structure in part 1 but will then paint and age it in part 2!

    Looking so good. If you end up getting plexi for the windows you can also hit it with a palm sander and some 150 grit instead of painting it. Works pretty well. Great job on the facade its going to be awesome finished.

      Thank you so much!! Siding and the crackle painting I'm working on right now was very much inspired by your haunted house build! Do you have any recommendations on where to get plexiglass and what size/thickness? And a great idea for the sander.

      @@AndrewLong Sign stores or Home Depot has some. 1/8 or 1/4 Its expensive so maybe you can find it used for free online. I have also used rice paper, thick painters plastic stapled to the back of your frame, and even the plastic light fixture covers that are thin sheets.

      @@HollywoodHaunter I have the plastic from the 1/2” insulation board and I’ve used it for windows before and it works great as long as you don’t poke a hole in it!

    I wish you didn't have to face the high price of lumber this year and chew up your gift cards!
    My Halloween project this year is dependent on lumber too and I've been arguing with myself on timing to start the buy and build.

    Dude! So good! Looks awesome, great job. I love the modularity of it; definitely adds a whole new level of complexity when building something like this. How do you find the Laun holds up to the weather?

    • @AndrewLong
      @AndrewLong  Před 2 lety +1

      Thanks! Making it come apart for storage can be one of the hardest parts! The luan typically holds up just fine but if it sits in water like any wood it’ll start to get moldy and warp. We don’t leave this stuff out for more than a few weeks so they don’t need any major repairs. Probably gonna water seal the wood as well.

    Incredible job! I am currently embarking on making a crypt facade for projections. Considering using one by fours and of course foam board insulation, any tips you can provide I'll furnish with a video Once I'm finished!

    • @AndrewLong
      @AndrewLong  Před 2 lety +1

      Thanks! Some basic tips I can give are making it easy to put together, take a part, and store but you probably already have that in mind.. It's great to use bolts instead of screws as they are stronger and can be taken in and out. For the foam, I definitely recommend hard coating it as it protects and adds some texture as well. I built a crypt facade a few years ago but have not put together a video for it so some day I will!

    • @thekenmorgan
      @thekenmorgan Před 2 lety

      @@AndrewLong I love the bolts idea! Definitely going to do that. Was considering hard coating with tile grout then painting. Was also thinking about how to achieve a fluted column by slicing pool noodles and mounting them reversed with the inside pointing outward. Haven't seen anything out there using that idea (maybe because it's not a good idea 🤔)

    • @AndrewLong
      @AndrewLong  Před 2 lety +1

      @@thekenmorgan I’ve never used tile grout before but I imagine it’ll be very strong. That’s a very interesting idea for the pool noodles! I’ve used pool noodles for a few different things and I’ve only had problems with paint wearing off or hard coats peeling off. You could use a larger piece of pvc for the columns but then you would have to figure out how to make them fluted..
