Absolutely perfect finale 10/10. I’m guessing that those upset with Simon are either royalists that romanticize the monarchy & really wanted to see Wille as king, or they wanted to see the first openly queer monarch. Thing is, from the very first episode, Wille has always wanted a normal life. He has never wanted to be king or crown prince. Even if he would have made a good king, he treasures his freedom more, and he finally found his voice in the series finale. He had the maturity to rationally tell his parents he does not want this role and never has. That takes major guts. He gave it a shot, but I believe he finally realized how much these royal duties had poisoned each person in his family and their relationships with others. He knew without a doubt he doesn’t want that life, and he realized that he didn’t have to accept it. Love that for him.
He also saw how it screwed with his mom's anxiety and knew it was starting to mess with his own. He loves himself too much to set himself up like that (with his crippling anxiety).
I love the way you explained Wille's choice. I also don't understand why everyone was ready to paint Simon as the bad guy. Like, he has his own life, his own dreams. The viewer could see how being involved with Wille was effecting him negatively, but people are willing to ignore that just to see them end up together?! Like, no.

He didn’t feel comfortable singing anymore & lost the ability to post his music, the thing he loved most. For a creative, that is devastating. The toxic birthday dinner at the palace was just the final straw. He loved Wille as hard and as best he could until he realized they’d both turned into people they didn’t recognize bc of the Royal court. But even then, Simon just basically stepped aside. He didn’t even ask Wille to choose between him or his role as crown prince. Wille made that choice himself.

This ending actually surprised me (in a good way). I thought Wille would accept the role, but used his platform to make changes. Then show would do a large time jump (maybe 5 years later), and the two would meet again by chance.
When you said you needed Wilie to be looking into the camera but smiling I was like "Are you psychic?!" Also, that 1-2-3 punch of those musical moments at the end of the episode is intense!!!

Perfect is the best way to describe this finale. I couldn’t ask for or think of anything better. As for my favorite season, this final season is still too new for me to rank it unbiased. So for now I will say Season 1 is still my favorite but season 3 may over take it in time. Season 1 was just so magical, it was like catching lightning in a bottle. I fell in love with these characters and this story in that season.

Coming into the finale, I said the same thing as you- how are we gonna resolve all this in an hour?! And they did it. And they did it FLAWLESSLY. I’ve been a Wille abdication truther from the beginning, because it was a role he was forced into that he never wanted. And the whole show was leading to this moment. And like Boris said in s2- “you cannot help who you were born as, but you can choose how you want to live.”
I can’t really pick a favorite: it’s one long season to me. It just flows together. I have favorite moments. I love their pinky holding during movie, the fish scene in Simon’s bedroom, Wille apologizing to Felice, the HALL scene in S3 (steamy), and the drunk/high scene on the football girlfriends.
