  • issue with the headlights on 2006 Saab 9-3 convertible. The high beam doesn't latch on, and only flash as the stalk is being released to sit back in it's normal position. Manually holding the stalk as it returns at roughly the location you feel the first click they will stay on. Can anyone suggest what the issue/fix is for this?

I'm about to make a video on how to fix this problem for cheap without disassembling anything just go to your Walmart and get electronic part cleaner it should be right by the carburetor cleaner and all of that stuff take the turn signal stock out it's easy you just pull it right out spray that in there pretty thoroughly and violently shake the turn signals left and right and the high beams forward and backwards because if you're high beams are starting to act up it's not long before your turn signals stop working as well it will clean every contact in there without taking everything apart and it costs almost nothing $10

Excellent I'll watch that. As it happens I had bought contact cleaner and have it sitting ready for when I eventually got around to getting the wheel off and open up the CIM!

@russellsmith4549 so I take it the saab specialist didn't fix it for long?

I was too nervous to do anything around removing the steering wheel because of the airbag and instead took it to a Saab specialist. They replaced CIM, or something related to it

No real issue in stripping off the the Str Whl pulling the complete CIM case assembly off the spindle column. You have to find a secondhand indicator/ h/lamp flasher / dip controller switch unit, it's what the left hand side stalk plugs into.
Carefully undo the small torex screws and gently prise off the CIM top cover. Pull up the left hand side switch - it's set down on long very fine terminal pins. Be careful to watch the indicator self cancelling dog and its spring reset which is below the switch unit you are removing.
Extra tip - set the Str Whl in straight position before pulling it off the column spindle. As you lift the CIM care up and off the spindle, keep the inner collar of the CIM held in the same position and once completely off, gaffer tape it so it keeps the same position as you work on opening the top cover and for all your consequential work changing over the left side switch.
