Ukrainian mortars destroy Russian ammo depot in fiery explosion

- This aerial video shows a Russian ammo depot spewing flames before exploding in a huge ball of smoke and fire following Ukrainian mortar strikes.
Newsflash obtained the footage from the 30th Independent Mechanised Brigade - a formation of the Ukrainian Ground Forces - yesterday (Monday, 2nd May).
The brigade said: "The 30th Independent Mechanised Brigade eliminated the ammunition depot of Russian soldiers.
"This is the skilful use of mortars which, by the way, have only recently joined the ranks of the brigade.
"Now the 'uninvited guests' will have less ammunition to fire on the Ukrainian military.
"This is how the BK of the occupiers burns so enchantingly and brightly - further on in the video.
"Glory to the Nation [of Ukraine]."
A second aerial video obtained by Newsflash from the brigade today shows Russian equipment being blown up in balls of smoke.
The brigade said: "We don't know if you have had any good news this morning. So, let's start with some: Our military destroyed several units of Russian equipment.
"Enjoy!
"Everything will be Ukrainian again."
And a third piece of footage obtained by Newsflash from the brigade yesterday shows a Russian tank trying to go unnoticed in an area of woodland, but still being picked off in a fiery strike.
The brigade said: "Incompetent racists live by the following principle: 'if you want no one to find you, put yourself in a prominent place'.
"So they position the tank and infantry fighting vehicles in such a way that it becomes convenient for tankers and artillerymen of the brigade to get to them."
The 30th Independent Mechanised Brigade did not say where in Ukraine the strikes took place.
In recent developments, UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson will describe the resistance to the Russian invasion as Ukraine's "finest hour" when he addresses the country's parliament virtually later today.

Gotta feel sorry for the poor livestock in that first clip. My late father was raised on small family farm and served in Europe during WW2. I remember him speaking sadly about all the mangled horse and cattle carcasses, especially in Normandy.
I feel the same. We care more about the domestic livestock being frightened than we care about the rapists, butchers,looters and gangsters getting killed as they are trying to occupy someone else's country. Russia will be a pariah state for decades.

A precision-guided munition is a guided munition intended to precisely hit a specific target, to minimize collateral damage and increase lethality against intended targets. mortar 81mm
In Ukrainian and Russian service they are 82mm mortars though. NATO and allied forces use 81mm tubes. They also use 120mm mortars and the Russians have a breach loading 240mm mortar as well. They are usually self propelled.

Once the Ukrainians can get the Switchblade 600 distributed to their troops just one per tank will be needed. There will be no need to use artillery and the possibility of losing your artillery to counterbattery fire. For those that may not know, the Switchblade are "kamikaze drones" that act as single-use, remote-controlled bombs. U.S made, and come in two versions - 300 for lightly armored vehicles and 600 for tanks. They are very small, and the 600 can fly up to 25 miles from the operator, then loiter for 20 minutes while a target is selected. The warhead is based on the Javelin's. B-T-W, I am not suggesting that artillery is not needed, just that the Switchblade brings another tool to the battlefield.
They won't get but maybe 100 of those drones. They will still need a lot of artillery and other tank busting weapons, as Russia has many, many tanks and other armored vehicles.
@@JimBobDewayne This is true, but hopefully more will be sent. Just like the M777 artillery was first 18 and another 70 later. I think more of everything will be sent, but many weeks (even years if you count from 2014) later than could have been done.
Counter battery requires drones and radar. It's possible to jam the radars and use mobile artillery to defeat those systems. The general in charge of Russia's electronic warfare plus 100 men of his unit were killed in a strike. It's very possible that there are large gaps and little control over Russia's counter artillery radars.
I have been saying the same thing for weeks they need to get 1000+ switch blade 600 to Ukraine and use them to decimate the Russian artillery.
You take out the Russian artillery and MLRS they don't amount to anything.
The javelin and NLAW can deal with the armoured vehicles

These clips show you how important drones are in modern warfare, they're priceless as an ISTAR asset these days and no modern military power can win a "special military operation" without them anymore....... just look back at how often Azerbaijan used them against the Armenian forces and we all saw how effective they were.

My MOS in the Army was mortars..11c. A mortar gives the Army a way to attack or supply the soldiers. I was an instructor for them for a lot of years. Give Ukraine the polish MIGs and all the ordinance they can get. Let them take the fight to the Russians.

I've always wondered what an artillery shell would do to a tank if lands directly on top of one. The Ukranians are getting so accurate that I might find out soon.
Directly on top ? Tank gets absolutely destroyed, even if it hits next to it the shrapnel can cause big damage to the turret
There have been several tanks hit directly with artillery. They have laser-guided artillery shells just for precise hits.
There was drone footage released the other day showing what looked like an 81mm mortar bomb being dropped from a drone which impacted the top of a Russian tank. It actually destroyed it which, as a mortar man myself proves that I was wrong all these years as I thought it would only damage the optics, radio and external machine gun if there was a direct hit. Every day is a school day.
There is a video around right now of a fire mission against a tank that is hit. It cooks off and is a burning wreck. It caught fire before the last round that landed on it too from a round that fell next to it.
Canada sent Excalibur GPS guided artillarty shells. We will know soon once the US howitzers show up that the shells go in.

And Norway wasn't being supplied daily with tremendous amounts of weaponry from the West. Their artillery accuracy is brilliant. It pays to have a professional military force.
Except the second sequence here 40 secs to 1.25. 4 target vehicles.... no direct hits and 3 vechicles including the tank appear to have escaped (there not even there in final shot of the film).
@@stevepi1 Artillery is designed for indirect damage. To knock out a T-72, an artillery round has to be 5m-10m next to the side or rear of the tank. A direct hit will kill a tank.

The Russians are also trying to conserve fuel so often times the tanks and other vehicles near the front lines arent even running their engines and are just sitting ducks.
