That an NBA player is #1 in two major statistical categories, both almost untouchable records yet, and almost never gets mentioned among the all-time greats, getting very limited play coming off the bench his first 3 seasons, is beyond me.

Stockton was a terrific defender and à nightmare for attackers on steals. But à great offensive player on assists too. Thats why he is the greatest point guard of all time.
@@Juanjuke6342 Your claim is debatable of course, but I gave it a like cuz few even bring him into that conversation, which is unthinkable. Assists are THE main component of point guards, and he doesn't just have the all-time record, he has it to where it may never be touched. Then, that this record on the defensive end is well out of reach for all this time also, along with being an excellent shooter, I think demands he be brought into the top-10 conversation for all players. Extremely underrated.
This was an interesting one. Not the fact that Stockton was way ahead of everyone, but instead some of the other names that showed up at different times on this list. Never expected olijuwon to make this list, or Malone. Or even barkley for a short time. Also interesting we’re some of the eventual coaches that popped up on the list… Sloan, rivers and mcmillen. The other interesting ones were magic and Jordan. Not that they made the list. Magic had a career shortened and Jordan had a few missing years in the middle. There’s a good argument that each might hold records if they had full careers. But this record isn’t one of them. Neither athlete, as great as they were, would ever have held this record. Good video.
I would never have guessed Drexler would be right up there with Pippen, Alvin Robertson, Gary Payton and Jordan (until Jordan's final comeback). Everyone talks about those guys' defence, but you never hear about Drexler.
Stockton’s the all time leader in steals and assists. Two of the five major statistical categories. Proof that he was a prolific player on offense as well as defense.
Karl Malone + John Stockton = 5350 steals. Sure, Malone choked in the playoffs, but it's criminal how the Jazz didn't manage to find a better supporting cast for what is one of the greatest duos of NBA history, and certainly the most long-lived duo.

Stockton is great and underrated. However, if MJ did not retire for all these years, and played for a full 20, he would be the leader of this list and of course he would have destroyed Kareem's points record and nobody would be able to catch him.
If Jordan didn't retire, Stockton still would have passed him up, Jordan was slowing down by the time he was on the Wizards. Stockton was mostly coming off the bench the first 3 seasons.
No way Jordan could have made up for a 700+ deficit in 2 years. In his best season he only had 259. Not to mention, those 2 years of rejuvenation sitting in a dugout the whole time would now be gone, 2 years instead of the wear and tear of 100 NBA games that would have cut into his numbers post-return.

I think it's unbelievable that Hakeem Olajuwon is so high on this list as a center
All-Time Blocks leader and top 10 in Steals. Some people have mentioned Hakeem as the greatest Defensive player in NBA History.
Malone surprised me the most.
@@MrScarfaceXehhh...he's prolly behind Russell and thurmond...wilt and Russell would have maybe a thousand or so more blocks... Russell, Wilt and Willis reed would up there with Hakeem in steals

Stockton was an amazing player!
and a wonderful human being, by all accounts
Stockton also ALL TIME LEADER IN ASSISTS 🤣🤣🤣
The assists record will stand longer than the steals, I think

@masterchinese28
Actually the assist record will probably fall first, if either do. Only because nobody in the current NBA plays defense.

Stockton enters the chat at 2:54. Homie woke up and chose violence! 😂
Interesting, if Jordan had not returned to play for the Wizards, he would have ended up behind Scottie by one steal.
Nobody will touch Stockton.
On assists as well
There are no current gen players except Chris Paul coming into this picture. This says alot about the game today.

Ofc, because of the complementarity with malone for more than 15 years ! No one can beat this legendary duo...
John Stockton will last for ever lol
How he led in all time high assists and steal , if only he also highest in scoring then he swept all NBA highest category.
It's too bad the NBA never counted steals as an official stat until 1973 so we couldn't get a fuller picture of the past greats.

4 Players from the 1984 draft !
I’d say it’s the best draft class so it makes sense.
Alvin Robertson made the list in only about 10 years of play. Too bad drugs derailed him.
It’s a shame Stockton played at the same time of the greatest dynasty in nba history he deserved a ring man
How about Larry sneaking into the top 10 for a decade? 😃 This not a list on which one would expect to find him, much less for that long.
Minutes played is a good one
Do career 3s now please
You don’t hear much about Tick Barry playing defense, but evidently he did it a lot.
