Not a defeat at all! And though it is very impressive that you do it in less than a minute almost always, these longer videos are very interesting! Thanks, Mark.
Always remarkable to me how single-minded he can be in situations like this. He thought of the Q but didn't think to put it in the first position. The letter is even a homophone of the target word. He does a similar kind of thing all the time in his sudoku solves, when there are multiple variants involved.
Queue? Mark you found an impossible lettercombo that makes up a strange word and finished the game in 4 guesses. No worries about once in a while missing the 1 minute job. And thank you for the fun of seeing you do these wordles daily.
As non native, queue has too many Us and Es, so I have very deep impression on this word, and was thinking maybe is this word when you are stucking there😂
I was looking forward to seeing him try this one. When I only had a u & e, I also went for "fudge". Then I remembered always consider Q when U is in the second spot.
Got this in 4, like Mark: SHIRT (all grey? wow), ALONE (OK, there's a letter), FUDGY (I don't play hard mode; there's another letter), and then I was pretty much in Mark's position and finally made the same deduction. TUQUE and NUQUE would both have been useful but I wasn't sure either one was an English word -- TUQUE struck me as too slangy, and I didn't know whether NUQUE has been taken into English. Mark would have got some information if he'd been willing to play a word that he knew wasn't right, using a grey letter -- but he's too much of a purist for that. This was a seriously difficult Wordle from most starting points! 😺
4 consecutive vowels is an anomoly, especially in a 5 letter word. I got it in 3, the silver lining with this word is that it was easy to eliminate other possibilities.
I got it in 4, but I had to sit on it for at least 30 minutes before it came to me. I have no idea how Bunje is a word. Auger - Cutie - Bunje - Queue Crushing hearing mark say "q, u, and e" over and over again for over a minute. That's all the letters, just gotta put it together!
Mark’s opening word sequence currently: BENNI BIALY Theme: ??? Bialy is a traditional Polish Jewish bread, and benni is sesame, which is often put on bread. So it’s something to do with bread I think, but there’s still not enough info to determine what exactly
Bread, or breakfast items? At least in the eastern US bialys are served for breakfast like bagels. But, wait a minute, where *was* BAGEL in the sequence, if that's what's going on? I'm still not sure I've figured out Mark's game.
CHAOS -> DRIFT -> PLUME -> VENUE -> QUEUE This is, arguably, the meanest word possible in Wordle. Two repeat letters, and a Q as the only consonant. No doubt ended a lot of streaks.
I had the same reaction when I finally solved it of “that’s just mean!!!” 😂 I wound up in the same problem and at one point early on thought “Q U something? No that won’t work…” queue just didn’t enter my head till several mins later.
I've recently started, well..... starting, with "HOTEL". This can sometimes work out very well indeed, but did not do me any favours this day. I am also not a native English speaker, making the whole progress even harder. Still got it in 5 though. HOTEL -> MUSIC -> FUDGE -> PUREE -> (some moderate amount of screen staring) -> QUEUE.
I hate how they changed the stats page. It used to be a neat overlay, centered with the puzzle. Now they updated it for mobile, the stats page takes the entire screen full of white, and the X got displaced all the way in the corner.
Yeah, this one threw me for a loop, too. Not only are repeat letters are hard, but Q.... (A key guess in my solve was "issue", at which point I had no more vowels to scan)
Got to the same U and E, couldn't see what it could be, but i was really going for double E so i wasn't too stumped. Tunic -> Ruder -> Bulge -> Suave -> Queue
I did just what you did… FAIRY SCOUT UNDUE stared at it for an eternity…. fortunately I was in hard mode which wouldn’t let me give a wrong answer after undue 😂
Stare > Ounce > Bugle > Queue Getting the placement right first try on both U and E, and having nothing else after 3 guesses, suggested to me repeats of potentially both, so Queue came to mind. There were probably other options still but I went for it.
I also crashed out on Sassy like you, this one came a little easier by reminding myself of golden rule where there's a U there's often a Q . When Mark gets other obscure words so quickly , found it amusing he struggled on this one. Which is what a lot of us do daily on Wordle , luckily not in front of a camera. !
Didn't have any trouble with this one. Q is first on the keyboard layout and I often think through letters in that order when I'm stuck, so Q always gets considered.
My good man, there is no shame in taking longer than normal to successfully sort out a Wordle with TWO double letters and one of the rarest consonants. That is just sadistic.
I did this one in 4 as well, being in a similar situation as Mark after the 3rd word. I thought of queue a bit faster though, probably because I've been seeing this word regularly recently.
lol Mark......I struggled too and got it in 4 after staring at it for ages like you did. Finally clicked. 💡 Again, played my usual 'situational' word as I was eating my Sunday dinner; ROAST>GLIDE>FENCE>QUEUE Gotta say, what an 'orrible but typical Wordle word....lol. 😂🤯
I didn't even know what a queue was until French class in college. We just "line up" in the US. Well done for powering through this, and in a public fashion! 👏👏👏 💪
Sorry Mark, but I relished watching your torment over this, as it's usually me in a state of despair and handwringing. Well done for getting it in 4. I was lucky with my 3rd guess, which eliminated all remaining vowels. hEavy>prosE>imbUE>QUEUE.
I thought yesterday a QU word was overdue so went SQUAT. Then considered QUEUE but last second change of mind and picked QUELL 😂 Then QUEUE found today's wordle much tougher but got it in 5
Got this in 2 with reMarkable luck, I had a yellow U and thought let’s just try to figure out where that goes, and also had a strong desire for a word using a Q
I got this one surprisingly quick because I wanted to get rid of as many places as I could for the U and E to go after running out of vowels on my first guesses. This one felt a lot meaner than normal. hah.
This one legitimately took me an hour. My fourth and fifth guesses were utter nonsense, randomly putting in the remaining letters in until something stuck. I must have only had 6 or 7 letters to choose from once I finally guessed it on my sixth.
Hmmmm, a wordle so hard that it became a non-short..... I actually thought of queue really quickly for my 4th also, but I really didn't want to put it in because it doesn't give you many letters. But after about a minute of thinking I couldn't think of any alternative so I YOLO'd it and it was right. I was thinking that this would be a tough one for most people and it seems like it was.
I could have sworn they had used QUEUE before. My game looked like a big middle finger with a column of green up the middle surrounded by gray: STERN > CHEAP > WIELD > BEEFY > QUEUE.
I thought of Queue quite early in my guesses (can't remember which one) but silly me thought it's spelled QUQUE. Watching this play, I again thought it's spelled like this. Lol
I only had the final E for the first 3 guesses and I was just thinking "wtf, I'm out of letters here, it's time to start looking at the fake letters on the left, I guess" and I just tried queue out of spite and it was right, somehow. 😅
I got this pretty fast actually, just had an E at the end and everything else grey for the first 3 tries. Then I just said to myself welp this probably has to be some ridiculous word like queue or it doesn't make sense and well there you go
Mark: what is the consonant cluster
Queue: 😏
Not a defeat at all! And though it is very impressive that you do it in less than a minute almost always, these longer videos are very interesting! Thanks, Mark.
I thought about Q earlier so got it in 5. Pure lucky guess. Agree it was very difficult!
When I did this yesterday I suspected this was going to be a good video 🙂
QUERY - QUEUE for me, decided to start with something unusual on a whim, and was pleasantly surprised to start of with three greens
I thought he had it at 2:20 with "Oh q"! Very tricky one, great solve.
Yeah, he said "Oh! Queue again!" I was like was queue an answer before? Then I realized he meant the letter Q.
As a German gamer I came up with it pretty fast. Ofc only in the video.
Wouldn't never be able to find such amazing starting words.
Good job Mark!
As non native, queue has too many Us and Es, so I have very deep impression on this word, and was thinking maybe is this word when you are stucking there😂
Same. The word Queue made a strong impression on me when i first learned how it was spelled. I thought people were saying “Cue” for the longest time.
@@EvanSawyer4They ARE saying cue! Just kidding, I know what you mean. 😊
As a native speaker, I also think there are too many Us and Es here! 😺
It’s just the letter Q with some silent vowels standing in line behind it
Exactly! I always remember shamefully how I used to pronounce it as que-ue, so I was also thinking about that word when he got stuck
love these dailies, thank you! and a big thank you for using that beautiful music in the background love it!
I was looking forward to seeing him try this one. When I only had a u & e, I also went for "fudge". Then I remembered always consider Q when U is in the second spot.
Best 4 minutes of my day!
Always fascinating when you know the answer.
Got this in 4, like Mark: SHIRT (all grey? wow), ALONE (OK, there's a letter), FUDGY (I don't play hard mode; there's another letter), and then I was pretty much in Mark's position and finally made the same deduction. This was a seriously difficult Wordle from most starting points! 😺
3:43 "but it was done in four [minutes]"
I think this is a classic example of a Wordle that is easier if you’re not a crossword expert. Just an ordinary word.
4 consecutive vowels is an anomoly, especially in a 5 letter word. I got it in 3, the silver lining with this word is that it was easy to eliminate other possibilities.
Yesterday, he said 'THINK,' before he got it. Today he said, 'Q,' before he got it. XD
I learned some time ago with Wordle that if the second letter is U then the first is usually Q. That helped me get this in 3.
I got it in 4, but I had to sit on it for at least 30 minutes before it came to me.
I have no idea how Bunje is a word.
Auger - Cutie - Bunje - Queue
Crushing hearing mark say "q, u, and e" over and over again for over a minute. That's all the letters, just gotta put it together!
Apparently it means bungee!
Mark’s opening word sequence currently:
BENNI BIALY
Theme: ???
Bialy is a traditional Polish Jewish bread, and benni is sesame, which is often put on bread. So it’s something to do with bread I think, but there’s still not enough info to determine what exactly
If that is the theme, then future words could be BREAD, CRUST, DOUGH, ...
Biały also means just white in polish
Maybe he is making a dish and ingredients to that recipe is the theme?
Bread, or breakfast items? At least in the eastern US bialys are served for breakfast like bagels. But, wait a minute, where *was* BAGEL in the sequence, if that's what's going on? I'm still not sure I've figured out Mark's game.
I am going to start with BOULE. A round shape loaf of French bread.
CHAOS -> DRIFT -> PLUME -> VENUE -> QUEUE
This is, arguably, the meanest word possible in Wordle. Two repeat letters, and a Q as the only consonant. No doubt ended a lot of streaks.
I had the same reaction when I finally solved it of “that’s just mean!!!” 😂
I wound up in the same problem and at one point early on thought “Q U something? No that won’t work…” queue just didn’t enter my head till several mins later.
I was stuck for so long, I finally asked my family for help!
I got it in 3. Since it's not as commonly said in the States than the UK, I was for sure he'd get it quickly. Glad you pushed through, Mark 😀
UK you mean!
@@columbus8myhw yes thank you!
6 for me on this one. Nevermind, keeps my massive streak of 6 alive 😂
I got it in 4 as well, but I forgot to write down what my words were. But I did note that this was a particularly evil choice of word!
After solving this one, I waited in anticipation for the short next day.
Didn't expect this to be more than a minute, so I missed this video....
EQUAL as a first guess helped me with this one. QUEST-QUEEN-QUEUE followed easily after that 😂
I hate how they changed the stats page. It used to be a neat overlay, centered with the puzzle. Now they updated it for mobile, the stats page takes the entire screen full of white, and the X got displaced all the way in the corner.
I am old but would have gotten a lot older before I thought of QUEQU
Yeah, this one threw me for a loop, too. Not only are repeat letters are hard, but Q....
(A key guess in my solve was "issue", at which point I had no more vowels to scan)
Got to the same U and E, couldn't see what it could be, but i was really going for double E so i wasn't too stumped.

love seeing you struggle for a change
I got it in 5
This was a brute. Share>Glide>Ounce>Queue
This one was an absolute beast...
To ensure success pick a good starting word and use the same starting word every single day.
I lost my 159 streak to SASSY, but got this one in 3 within like 30 seconds. The brain is a strange thing.
Don't know what possessed me to guess Quick but I'm glad I did.
I just managed it, but it is definitely a streak breaker.
Congrats for getting it!!
This one was so difficult in hard mode! It took me hours and some help from my bf
When u comes in second place, think Q
Didn't have any trouble with this one. Q is first on the keyboard layout and I often think through letters in that order when I'm stuck, so Q always gets considered.
I got it faster than wordle in a minute. That makes me a genius
My good man, there is no shame in taking longer than normal to successfully sort out a Wordle with TWO double letters and one of the rarest consonants. That is just sadistic.
I'm glad to see Mark struggled with this one as well. Got it in 5 in the end after finally getting queer as guess 4.
wEird->coUgh->QUEUE ⭐⭐⭐ 😮 Wow! Wordle is coming after the streaks.
Dangit, I missed this one. Thought I had done it for Sunday already but I hadn't.
I did this one in 4 as well, being in a similar situation as Mark after the 3rd word. I thought of queue a bit faster though, probably because I've been seeing this word regularly recently.
Brutal word.
Also in 4, there are just not manmy alternatives. What saved me was that the reaiisation that a U in 2nd can mean the word starts with qu
lol Mark......I struggled too and got it in 4 after staring at it for ages like you did. Finally clicked. 💡 Again, played my usual 'situational' word as I was eating my Sunday dinner;
ROAST>GLIDE>FENCE>QUEUE
Gotta say, what an 'orrible but typical Wordle word....lol. 😂🤯
Very rare occasion where I was quicker than Mark. It just happens to be the first word that comes to me when I see - U - - E no idea why 😄
having the U second I imediately think of Q first and then it got "easy"
I didn't even know what a queue was until French class in college. We just "line up" in the US.
Well done for powering through this, and in a public fashion! 👏👏👏 💪
Sorry Mark, but I relished watching your torment over this, as it's usually me in a state of despair and handwringing. Well done for getting it in 4.

To me it was so obvious that it was queue 😂 I always try a Q when there is a weird U I can’t figure out.
Does anyone know what's the background music called? Thanks
I got to a point where it was the only possible answer and it came to me rather quickly. I usually struggle with much easier words than this.
I started with "quest" and got it in 3. 😆
LOUSE, UNITE, PURGE, QUAKE, QUEUE. Getting to QUAKE from PURGE took forever. QUEUE from QUAKE took no time at all.
QUEUE is the ultimate word that is hard to get, but seems so obvious when you finally get it
I could have sworn they had used QUEUE before. My game looked like a big middle finger with a column of green up the middle surrounded by gray: STERN > CHEAP > WIELD > BEEFY > QUEUE.
I guess I need to choose a new starter word. Sad I missed yesterday.
I had almost the same experience as Mark - could not see what was right in front of me.
He even said “Q” several times too lol
My favourite word, you can get rid of 4 out of the 5 letters and it still sounds the same
I thought of Queue quite early in my guesses (can't remember which one) but silly me thought it's spelled QUQUE. Watching this play, I again thought it's spelled like this. Lol
I wonder if “cuvee” is in the english dictionary. In that case, good that Mark didn’t think of it 😜
I got this in 5
Phpht
Cared
Fluke
Mogue
Queue
can anyone give me the music name pls?
I only had the final E for the first 3 guesses and I was just thinking "wtf, I'm out of letters here, it's time to start looking at the fake letters on the left, I guess" and I just tried queue out of spite and it was right, somehow. 😅
Sure was a tricky word...
Cable -> Drive -> Phone -> Segue -> Queue
got it in 4! had thought about how bad this word would be for wordle just the day before so i got it very quickly
I thought the exact same thing two days ago 😄
This is my third or fourth day of "luckiness" in a row.
STEAK -> BREED -> QUEUE
this took me about ten minutes
Yeah, this word is pretty evil lol, I went TIMER - PLACE - HOUSE - FUGUE - (lots of staring blankly att my phone) - QUEUE
I was lucky to get it in 3, stare -> quine -> queue
That took me so long I gave up had breakfast. Then it suddenly hit me.
Got it in 4 though
Very long minute this time haha 😅
I got this pretty fast actually, just had an E at the end and everything else grey for the first 3 tries. Then I just said to myself welp this probably has to be some ridiculous word like queue or it doesn't make sense and well there you go
I agree; this one was mean. I got it in five, but took much longer than Mark did.
After my 3 word start yielded me only the E and U, i thought there was no way they would be that cruel. I was wrong and got it in 4.
I don't know how I thought of it but I got it in 2!
pause > queue
This sure was a word of all time. Fudge came to the rescue though.
VIRAL - SCOPE - FUDGE - BUTTE - QUEUE
I never came across your opening word "bialy". What does it mean?
He said fugue but didn't play it. I did, and still took me six. Bugger of a word, for sure, but Mark still got it in near-record time.
F had already been used at that point
I got very lucky on this one - SPACE > QUITE > QUEUE
It helps to be a programmer to get this one.
His longest yet?
4 playing SPURT WOULD QUEEN QUEUE If I had thought more on 2nd guess might have got the QU start and done in 3
I'd venture to say it's not even fun, chancing on the word 'QUEUE'...
not in a minute lol...its ok. we all have those days where things get harder for absolutely no reason.
