- Translated to English by the C.I.A., this Soviet propaganda film was originally created in July,1967 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Russian Revolution, and to document the Moscow Air Show. The film also shows some of the history of aviation in the USSR. This amazing film features combat footage from WWII, as well as (at about the 3 minute mark) interesting historic footage of aircraft designers Pavel Sukhoi, Alexander Yakovlev and Artem Mikoyan and Mikhail Gurevich (the men behind the "Mig"), and many others. A gigantic air show is then shown -- the 50th anniversary of the October Revolution Air Show that was held in the summer, on 9 July 1967 at Domodedovo airport. This unprecedented display of air power featured twelve new types or variants of military aircraft including the MiG-23, MiG-25, Su-11, Su-15, Su-17, and STOL aircraft (MiG, Su, Yak-36). The advances revealed prompted great concern in the West.

Interesting, because of (one of) the first sightings in the West of the Mig-25 ( @ 52:07 ) : one R and some P models. This knowledge, together with the performance of the Mig-21 during the Vietnam war, made the development of the American F-X air-superiority fighter (later named F-15 Eagle) even more of a priority.
P models, the FoxBat's!
no wonder amerikkka won the war 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I have the funny story: My first apartment in Boston was 1687 Commonwealth Ave.; I used to go to a Russian deli across the street near Chansky's Market (1989). They were honored with my presence, as I was the only American who regularly shopped there. Their cold cuts, breads, cheeses, etc. were superior to the processed garbage the USA sells. They would go down to Brooklyn once a week to re-up supplies; I would help with heavy items from the basement. The men would treat me to vodka behind the counter, and I was honored. One day, I noticed a beautiful military cap on the shelf, and I asked the owner was this his? He replied that it had been his during his service to his country. I asked, "So what did you do in the military?" His reply, "I flew MIG against United States in Vietnam..." "Oh..," I said, "May I have another vodka?"
Hes bloody lucky the Yanks didnt blow his commie arse out of the sky.
Lmao. Nice.
That guy had to have crazy stories from his life
Everyone does! Uncertain Veracity.@@simonfejta3434
Uncommon warmth from Russians. Normally so shy.
Thank you!! I Love these old soviet aviation videos. :)
A fascinating timepiece.
Yes, so full of propaganda. Girls singing heroic songs by the campfire. But good aerobatics.
...and some Western military analyst just wet themselves seeing those MiG-25s at the end of the video !
Why did he do that?
This narrator must have done many Soviet documentaries.
The CIA knew in advance of the Soviet Union display of air power air to air and air to surface missles.
Особенно впечатлило 15 девушек в национальных костюмах , пролетающие на вертолётах. Учтите , у них нет парашютов. Молодцы.
Amazing 🤩
52:08 these three planes are what made the rest of the world shit their pants
Till Lt. Victor Belenko defected in a MiG-25 in 1976 landing in Japan.
@@nicholasmaude6906 and that was when the world discovered that the supposed Soviet super fighter was only designed for speed and intercepting hypersonic bombers that don't exist (US cancelled) and its engines had a short life (hence the mass produced number of these MiGs)
@@VentiVonOsterreich MIG-25 was designed to justify hefty US military budget. That's why that crap was returned back to USSR.
@VentiVonOsterreich You read the Book?
Nationalism -promotes a sense of identity, unites people, and pride.
>Translated by C.I.A.
>Literally can't directly translate the title "Wings of October" and change it to" MIGHTY WINGS" instead
Because "Wings of October" do nor sound MIGHTY. But CIA, as always, need "mighty" Russia to justify hefty US military budget
I was curious about the phrases towards the end of the video, so I used Google translate to find out. The narrator says "may the skies always be clear", but flashing on the screen is "glory to soviet aviation", "glory to the soviet people", "glory to the communist party and soviet union", and "glory to the great October".
1967 was the year the MiG-23 prototype first flew.
So what it's Miserable aircraft in any service!
@@JeffreyWilliams-dr7qe "miserable aircraft" - it was far superior to any of the F-4s
@user-qw6zj5ix9k Of Course it was , 23 was garbage in Iran v Iraq. War. Feared in the 80s as info on 23 and 27 was thin.
@@JeffreyWilliams-dr7qe Because MiG-23s and MiG-27s were like literally 30-40 years outdated and met an opponent who had the numerical superiority and modern fighters
We love the Russian people, make peace and be a true super power. Make peace to show the world GOOD IN EXTREME DIFFICULTIES
Epic
At 42:15, truly bare bones self propelled artillery-lol!
Вот чего можно добиться если всей страной работать на оборонную промышленность! Молодцы!
P.S. Забыли только о людях..
Nice Google translate 👍
"Lenin's name is written in the sky"! Followed by, "So"... They forgot the "what"🤣
That was 50th anniversary of the foundation of SU
is that Brezhnev at 22:53 ?
Yes
I’m a Brit born in67 welcome to my world x
I wonder what Bubbi Harmann would say about this.....
This is a treasure; Russians know how 2 film, altho' the campfire singing is a bit too 'strength-thru-joy' 4 me; this bare metal super-stovepipe era is one of the great periods of Russian aviation.
I would love 2 have seen Tex Johnson get his hands on an IL-62.
And some great music 💜.
T-44 tank abuse!
I want 1 of those twin SA-4 Ganef track rigs parked in my driveway, just as a message 2 the neighbors.
And Yakovlev rated a kick in the gooch; such a workplace bitch! 🎱

That´s a big difference to 180. Well done.
Where's all this air power when Putin needs it??
Had anyone else thought to film fighter pilots from that angle before (looking up from the bottom of the instrument panel, the pilot's face lit by the sun and the horizon in the background) or is this another one of the cool movie things Russia invented
There are oodles of flight training flims pre-1941 in America for pilots to watch that show that angle. And then there are uncountable numbers of films that show it during WW2 and on-wards.
Were the Russians still using black and white camareas in 1967?....looks like an American film from the 1940s lol
The B&W shots in the beginning were historical films, if you’re referring to those. Rest of the film is in (faded) color. Maybe B&W is used elsewhere in the film for effect, I can’t remember every shot.
There is color throughout the film, it's just faded.
I think they're using some of these very planes in ukraine for the special operation . their jump jet was a piece of shit.
Why haven't they won yet?
They never could make a decent aircraft.
Yet it was cheap and work enough. Always Soviet planes the worst of the world, well look at Vietnam instead. NVA pilots slap hard constantly upon US Army / Air Force and US Navy / Air Force over the North of the 17th parallel. Outdated weapons falls upon hands of skilled NVA & it turned to true fighting machine as it was intended to. Don't look at the Middle East when Arab states face Israel. They got better weapons, yet they lost due to lose the initiative and lacking tactics to use it. Also, "not decent aircraft" would played crucial role in the Soviet 1943-1945 campaigns in WW2 which lead to the downfall of the 3rd Reich & the death of Kwantung Army.
