It will look much much better compare to 30fps.
It makes no sense if the console has extra power. Developer would have used it to make their games look much better.

@@scottrocks1993 to have twice the frame rate graphics effects will have to be disabled. so its graphics fidelity vs fps fidelity. if a game looks great at 60fps then it can look even better at 30fps. 60 fps needs twice the power as it has to display the frames twice as fast because there is twice as many being shown each second. most games will have graphics options like they have now, so there is nothing to worry about.

@general M bison Demons Souls is a full on remake with modern graphics. A sub $1000 machine won't do 4k 60fps. Even machines above that struggle doing 4k 60fps with modern games.

Of course they have lol. You have to have pricing in mind when you're manufacturing the product. You need to know how much you can afford to spend on the manufacturing and you cant possibly know that without knowing how much money you'll be making from each unit. They know the price. As far as playing "chicken" with Microsoft, they can always change the price later if they want. Microsoft did it with the XBox One. Its never written in stone. They just didnt want to announce the price yet. Its still 5 months away.

Here is the biggest reason why I would buy Gran Turismo in the modern era: I want to be able to drive old cars.
The very thing that people complained about with GT2 is the same reason why I love the series. I LOVE 90's Japanese cars. I'm absolutely baffled why the series abandoned them.

DF mentioned the poor quality of the stream, personally I think the stream was at a lower resolution intentionally because it was quite obvious that the stream was going to be hugely popular and with large volumes of traffic could have caused issues with buffering for many viewers.

Oh yeah, they acknowledged the series existence with the 1-2 reeeally short clips of it, which I'm really glad they did, but it's still a Vita series and an open wound for me.

I hope developers still include options for frame rate and resolution so instead of 4k 30fps have 1080p and 60+ fps. It would also be nice for them to include options to turn Ray tracing on or off to get more fps.

@@rtx5319 Depends on the game the original Bioshock you could unlock the framerate, Witcher 3 has 1080p and 60fps mode on Xbox One X or 4k 60 same with Tomb Raider. Depends on the game/developer.
Lower resolution mode is absolutely possible, they already do it on ps4s with certain games, but I don't think turning ray tracing off is going to be an option: if you would turn it off certain areas could become completely dark if their only illumination is reflected light. Just think what happened at the Unreal Engine 5 demo when they turned off the dynamic illumination to show the difference
Lower resolution only helps the GPU, to double the frame rate you also need the CPU to do twice as much so you can't just put a high frame rate option in every game.
If you're so fussed about customisation, build yourself a PC.
What you're asking for defeats the object of consoles.

There has always been an option to lower resolution in Playstations. On a regular ps4 you can lower it to 720p, 720i, 480, and one lower than that. Not everyone has a 4k tv, that is obvious

It’s so frustrating that the digital version looks waaaay nicer than the normal one. I agree with Alex, it seems like the disc drive was an afterthought, ruining the symmetrical design of the digital one. But I can’t afford to go digital (when I eventually get the PS5)
I also agree massively with Rich about the lack of pricing announcement. There was some great stuff in this presentation (I got really into gaming with the X360 and didn’t have the PS3, but I had both consoles this gen and despite leaning towards Xbox as my primary console, Sony really won me over with the PS4) but yeah, announce the price.

Are the prices on ps store way more expensive than buying discs everywhere or is it just in Europe? When RDR2 was released there was a price difference of almost 15 euros compared to the cheapest online retailer selling the game on disc. That's insane. If anything it should be cheaper. Will have to compare game prices before making a decision on which version PS5 to get.
@@Prahlis92 The price variation is huge. If you need to play direct on launch, pre-loading from PS store is your only option and you'll pay for it. If you are not in a big hurry second hand the month after launch is best buy. But when you are on a budget, the eventual limited time offer in the PS store will even beat second hand.
Of course the cost is less but the majority of people is impatient and willing to pay the price for it.
For the sake of BC and my movie collection my choice is the bulky one.

The only channel worth watching regarding console hardware.
Digital Foundry is a great show for hardware, but that is silly to say it is the only one worth watching as there are other shows that delve into hardware that is rarely covered by Digital Foundry.
MVG Modern Vintage Gaming for example covers consoles as well but focuses on the underground side of things- modding, emulation, DIY upgrades, DRMs and development history of consoles.

I believe a Resistance reboot or Resistance 4 is coming. Perhaps as the next game after Ratchet and Clank. Its been enough time after the last Resistance game that a comeback would be interesting, whereas going straight into Spiderman 2 is too soon.

@@PlaceboHead360 They said 60fps it was going to be the standard but they backtracked on that, so I'm not sure, and the XSX is about 16% more powerful than the PS5 so I don't think we will see many games running at higher resolutions.

Like this time around, it will be even more important to wait for that god damn game to come out instead of pre-ordering because thanks to the not garbage CPU it should be more feasible to target 60 at lower res, or at least let it run free, set fps target and VRR will take care of the rest.
@@sadstormtrooper Devs will always go for better visuals, so 30 FPS baseline works best to squeeze out the best graphics possible of any given hardware. But I think you can expect 60 FPS with older rendering tech, like U4. But it won't have that nexgen leap most people are looking for.;-)
Coming from a fan of the originals that were back on the PS2, I do hope that we get a 60 FPS option on the rew R&C game. 30FPS is not acceptable for a fast-paced game like this.

Cat Man not even a RTX 2080 Ti can do 60 4k in every game. You guys are delusional. The console will be a dynamic 4k 60fps option.
ALL Xbox first parties will be 60 minimun and probably several with 120fps modes. A ton of back compat will be 60-120fps too.

Van Dammage I have a 2080 Ti and if you play with settings reduced it’s possible. The PS5 is more like a 5700 XT and that’s can be much harder. I can see Sony Exclusives doing 60fps 4k
@@chalpua8802 ultra settings are dumb as hell and a total waste. It's only settings that are easy to dial up that need zero development or optimization from devs.
That's why ultra settings on current gen games look pathetic compared to Hellblade 2, Horizon 2, GT7, Flight Simulator etc. running on the same hardware

I really hope devs implement graphics settings on consoles, so you can lower the resolution to get a higher frame-rate. There's a few games on PS4 Pro and Xbox One X that have these options already.

yeah ...how were they able to do that trick in Titanfall 2 and Dishonored 2 if it's supposedly incumbent on having a blazing fast ssd? I think it's a matter of degree rather rather than this being something only possible in ps5/xb series x
@@CC42_ Likely wouldve loaded it at the same time somehow rather than switching. Doing it by loading first would only allow switching it to that level but being able to switch on the fly gives more possibilities and better console performance anyway. Still a cool trick and i could be blowing steam out of my arse anyway.
I think it's a con. Bioshock Infinite had moments where they flicked between multiple different scenes rapidly. It doesn't need this 'super SSD' gimmick but they need their 'blast processing' moment otherwise they are basically just unveiling an inferior machine.

It'll be kind of live action cut scene at most where you live out a few crazy but scripted moments in parts of scripted world in scripted orders.
There is mo way you just fly into any shard. It wouldn't even be a particularly fun feature it just looks amazing and they used it well.
Sony has an amazing marketing team, hats off to them but, it's more than a little deceiving, isn't it?

Not really. He just mentions how pre rendered videos by a third party are easier as they don't affect development and Richard just says that that is misleading for the final product. The was no "one-upping" or "blowing out of water".

I think modern warfare 2019 is a good example of a game where pre rendered cutscenes actually add a lot to the visual experience despite the game itself looking fantastic. I still think there’s a place for CG every now and then.
I agree, pre-rendered cutscenes are great. But I'm with Richard in wanting to see gameplay first, real gameplay, not faked, not in-engine cinematics, but hands on sticks, crab flippin' gameplay.
For me it just takes me out of that world with from software being an exception, they are never overused and are always just at the beginning which is great for setting the mood the same can be said about the witcher but other than that i really hate pre rendered cutscenes especially if they're scattered all over the game, they make everything feel inconsistent, last of us is my favorite game of all time and i cant stand those pre rendered cutscenes anymore it takes away so much but that's just what i think

By removing the disc drive they can ensure users only buy games through the PS store. I think that offsets most of the cost and not the UHD blu-ray disc drive.
I'm gonna assume 4k blue rays will be available on the store too they will have to be
@Harry Owen Uh "4K Blu-Rays" refer to the physical medium that uses a laser which is smaller in wave length than say a DVD. 4K versions just have significantly higher density than standard Blu-Ray with higher resolutions and more efficient codecs.....the movies on the store will simply be "4K Resolution Movies" (Not physical Blu Ray discs)
There would always be sites that’s better than purchasing games via store. (CDkeys & G2A).
The blue ray drive doesn't cost them much money probably only a few bucks.

Did anyone else noticed huge details popping after each portal entry? Check from 12:22 to 12:30 (easier to notice in 0.25 speed). Most notably (but not only):
1st - The birds on the building glass
2nd - The cracks images popping right after the portal is open
3rd - The bodies of those rocky structures right in front of the character

On PC 1440p is the sweetspot with a fairly powerful GPU, can't beat the smoothness of 80-90+FPS. 4k is still tough to run and minimums can be rather low.
I agree, but luckily I can get the best of both worlds. I have a 4k 144hz panel. Depending on the game and settings, I'll play 4k 50-90fps or 1440p 120-144fps. But on older or easy to run games I can easily do 4k 144fps.
I’d love PS5 to offer a 1440p mode 60fps. For games with the visual selling point 4K 30fps the standard. Giving both groups options would be amazing!
Honestly I think 1440p should be the sweet spot even for the next gen consoles with some kind of reconstructed image tech a bit like DLSS 2.0 would be the best use of that hardware power because if consoles are targeting native 4k whiles PC gamers can target 1440p with something like DLSS 2.0 and get more or less the same image as 4k and sometimes even better, that is a far better use of hardware power that could even allow many mid tier cards to run those games even at 60fps whereas the game is 30fps on the consoles.
I've never been a big fan of this gen of consoles in pushing hard on the resolution front and it looks like they are doing the same next gen.
@@markwebster4996 That should be possible for many games but won't for others depending how they use the cpu and gpu power, sometimes lowering the resolution will have little impact on the cpu if it's being pushed in other areas that are not visual related and that will mean it will be hard to get 60fps on those games if a game targets 30fps, but many other games should be able to do 60fps thanks to the faster cpu but don't assume a faster cpu means 60fps at lower resolution because it really depends on the game design.
Yep, and 4K with ray-tracing enabled, is even harder and does require one hell of a damn good rig. Just looking at PC and judging where the PS5 falls in (around a higher mid-range PC), I just feel the PS5 might just fall a bit short of 4K at 60fps (without ray-tracing) in the more graphically demanding AAA titles, without doing some toning down to the graphics. Of course hitting a stable 60fps at 4K, will probably become more and more of an issue for devs, as the console ages.
However, like you said, in the same demanding titles at 1440p, it might just manage a stable 90fps or 60fps with ray-tracing enabled. It's a good solid balance between graphics, resolution and frame-rate, with not too many compromises and just fits in nicely, with it's expected range of performance. I should think it could also manage between 100-130fps at 1080p and around 60-70fps at 1620p (3K), in most games (without ray-tracing)
However, I guess the biggest current problem is, a good majority of people will still be playing on a 1080/720p TV at 60Hz, since they're still the most common TV's out there (by around 66%). So I guess in that case, the best current target for game devs to aim for, would be at least 60fps at 1080p, with full ray-tracing & maxed graphics. Which thankfully, it should be easily capable of doing.
