    I like that I don't have to time my tea then run back to lift out my tea bag while I'm trying to get ready... I put timer on the night before and it's waiting hot in the morning for when I walk out the door.... With perfect steep time... I don't drink coffee so this is awesome for me!

    I agree with @Tricia Bianco that there's a limit to how long tea can be steeped before the water begins pulling the bitter tannins from the leaves. Tea is made stronger with more leaves, not longer brew time; and conversely too much water ruins the tea so that the only solution is starting over, not simply brewing it longer. I wonder if this device would allow someone to steep Earl Grey (for example) for longer than 2-3 minutes - ?

    The real selling point of this machine is that you can use it like a coffee machine with time. You can set it to brew at a certain time, so you can wake up to hot tea every morning.

      It is if the tea isn;t at the right temp. Over doing tea can leave a bad taste.

    The problem is that the basket function (repeated raising and lowering during steeping) is not recommended for anything less than 4 cups of water. If you make less than 4 cups it is just a waste of money paid for a feature Breville recommends not using. As you decrease the amount of water in the jug below 5 cups, the basket feature causes the basket to repeatedly raise out of the hot water for increasing lengths of time during the brew cycle. For the same brewing time, you get different strengths of tea. Bad engineering. The vertical travel of the basket is not adjustable. Breville should have included a function that would limit the basket's vertical travel based on the water level selected.

    • @thomasmcclain8116
      @thomasmcclain8116 Před 5 lety +3

      If you select the basket button, it will stay in the water and not go up and down.

    • @batman.._
      @batman.._ Před 2 lety

      I mean I think the fix would be simply increase the brew time if you still want to use the basket function. Like add 20% more time for each cup lost from five cup mark. That way the time in contact with water is roughly the same. Also do you know whether the kettle maintains the temp during the brewing process?

    Strength of the tea is actually determined by how much of the tea leaves you use...not by how long you brew it. Over-steeping the tea can lead to a bitter end-note of the tea, leaving your mouth dry. Otherwise, this is a great product. I love how its so easy to customize it to get your perfect cup of tea. If you want to brew the tea longer, I would suggest setting the temperature lower, then steeping for a longer amount of time.

    • @Lintukoko
      @Lintukoko Před rokem

      You still extract more from the leaves with longer water exposure. Yes, more leaves for the same time will make a stronger tea, but it also is accurate to say that longer exposure to water will (along with tamping the leaves a bit and stirring etc) extract more. There's a point where the water will be as saturated as it can get-when it reaches equilibrium with the leaves or at cooler temperatures has extracted all that will extract AT that temperature, but that certainly is not at the 2 or even 5 minute point. While the equipment is quite different (ie high pressure systems, different brewing methods entirely), coffee extraction-where most want 18-20% of the coffee extracted out, is quite a trendy topic (you are, after all, transferring what is in one into the other, so once the tea dries out again, it will weigh less just as coffee does)

      Not much art to making tea. It's just about type of tea, amount of tea, temp and time. This system is preprogrammed. Most people don't think about temp they usually wait for the kettle to whistle.

OOPS, ALL CAPS, NOT MAD, JUST READ IT EASIER AND FORGET TO TURN OFF FOR POSTING. ANYWAY, IF ANYONE KNOWS IF THIS ONE WILL OR KNOW OF ONE THAT IS ALL GLASS AND DOES PLEASE LET ME KNOW.

    • @Williams-Sonoma
      @Williams-Sonoma  Před 8 lety

      According to Breville, the ‘Keep Warm’ function will only stay on for 60 minutes. It is programmed this way for safety and to protect the taste/integrity of the tea, as steeping too long can result in unwanted bitterness.

  • @bobcatt2294
    @bobcatt2294 Před 6 lety

    If you are using tea as medicinal use, you need to have temperature control - without a doubt. You also want an inert material which the water is contained. I rather have glass over stainless. Any plastic is unacceptable. Ceramic is also good, but the ceramic may have lead. The US allows lead in appliances, where it did not previously allow. So Chinese appliances may have lead and may not be disclosed. Other US made appliances may have lead. Cheap stainless has higher levels of nickel and other alloys which can leach into the water. A one temperature teapot is not ideal.

    • @Ecalypse
      @Ecalypse Před 6 lety

      Cheap stainless steel will not have a lot of nickel since it is pretty much the main determining factor in price of stainless steel. That's why we have 18-8 and 18-10, where 18-8 with the 18% chromium and 8% nickel is cheaper than 18-10 with 18% chromium and 10% nickel. Unless of course they're selling what is basically 18-8 as 18-10 (some 8,3% nickel) as some companies do. In any case, AISI 304 steel won't leach enough chromium or nickel into whatever you cook in it to go over the tolerable daily upper limit and it won't happen every time because the leached amount goes down each cooking cycle. See Kamerud et al. (2013) Stainless Steel Leaches Nickel and Chromium into Foods During Cooking.

    • @bobcatt2294
      @bobcatt2294 Před 6 lety

      Thank you for the correction - so it is the chromium and not the nickel which determines the grade of stainless. I have a distiller where the water is contained within a stainless steel tub. I can't but there are some who can taste metal even with the use of a charcoal filter. I would rather use a glass container and not metal especially if the water or substance is being heated.
