  • The Evora 400 is a couple of years old now, and so examples are appearing on the used market at tempting prices. With this in mind, is the Evora S still worth buying?
    I filmed this in collaboration with Jack from Number27 - see his review of the 400 here:

    Fantastic video James! Really enjoyed seeing you review my car and pretty much agree with everything you said!! Aside from suspension which I thought was a step up on yours without feeling harsher.. but then I'm not a professional so who knows! Thanks buddy, it was a lot of fun, look forward to the next one! Jack

    This is soooo funny. Saw both vids (following both of you for a few years now). Really very very funny to see - really well done! Like the Evora as well (and plan to switch from Elise to Evora maybe this year or next). (I know you sold your Evora a year ago)

    I'm a Lotus nut (Owned 12) however they all now suffer the same problem! They are to expensive new.
    I owned a N/A 2010 Evora, great handling, comfortable, brilliant breaks, stunning looking and quite well made. Performance was poor thou. Got left for dead by a A45 & Bmw 135i (Part of the reason I sold it on was it just wasn't powerful enough for such an amazing looking car.
    Great video sir !
    Seriously looking to get back into the brand at some point either this year or next. keep the Lotus content coming buddy.

      You probably had a long-ratio gearbox. The N/A needs the short ratio gearbox and it's very quick. It also needs to be run in properly.

    Aw the 'Micky (MIckleham) Bends'. A24 Leatherhead to Dorking. Great road past Box Hill and through the North Downs continuing down the A24 beyond Dorking heading for Sussex, the South Downs and Brighton. Best roads in the South East. MIss home :-(

    My ancestor from England did not drive an Evora before leaving England in 1618 aboard the Constance. Pity, what! I'm making up for his early birth by having my second Evora S, following a 1990 Esprit SE, a 2008 Anniversary Ed. (SC'd) and a NA Elise with 191 rwhp race car which weighed 1900 lbs with me in it. The only thing I can find wrong with the Evora S is the driver's side (left side in USA) cramped left foot well. And, of course, I can't drive it ALL THE TIME. I traded a Challenger Hellcat for the Evora S. Much different cars. The Evora rides a little rougher but drives a LOT BETTA. Blimmey. What a Sports car this S really is. Now, to install a Plack straight pipe for musical appreciation.... I love James' videos.

    Really enjoyed this and great to know the Evora S is still a great buy. Whilst they deserved to sell in greater numbers it means they stubbornly hold their value compared to most 996 models bar the GT3 that are sub £20k. Can you replicate the fantastic noise of the 400 on an S, this is a must?

  • @TheValetPRO

    Great Video. I just recently brought a my12 sport racer version naturally aspirated i find the car sounds great. Really loud in sports mode. Did the my12 version get an improved exhaust system?

    • @JayEmmOnCars
      @JayEmmOnCars  Před 6 lety

      You got one at last? That's great! Later cars had a cat delete but I bet yours has an aftermarket exhaust if it is really loud

    • @TheValetPRO
      @TheValetPRO Před 6 lety +1

      It maybe that I'm not used to performance cars. As you know I have a TDI TT previously. So the Evora sounds amazing even without the sports mode.

  • @MrKeyboardCommando
    @MrKeyboardCommando Před 6 lety +3

    The Evora S is, and always will be, a great car, as is the 400. Any difference/superiority between the two is merely incremental, and will be forgotten as soon as you start driving either car.
    The shirt, however, leaves a lot of room for improvement‼️
    The review is, as always, excellent.👍🏼👍🏼

    Hi Jay, just wondered what the yellow signature is on the dash? And was the yellow interior trims custom done, if so by whom? Thanks Tony (don’t suppose you know who stocks the new cup holder centre console?)

    • @JayEmmOnCars
      @JayEmmOnCars  Před 6 lety

      The signature is from Mike Kimberley, former Lotus CEO. The stitching on the seats was done by Cobra, the wheel by Royal Steering Wheels

  • @GeneralZey

    Evora S for 40k.. or keep building money and wait for the 400 to depreciate? Easy.

  • @scanspeak00
    @scanspeak00 Před 6 lety +7

    Here in Australia an Evora S is about 50,000 pounds and a 400 is about 100,000 pounds. Both a bit steep for me.

    These are amazing GT cars with the chassis, steering and brake feel of an Elise. Completely underrated. Find a good example and you will never drive anything better whatever money you pay. And I prefer the looks of the original model, exterior and interior.

      It would be difficult to do, there are better options

      Because of labour cost, or?

    • @JayEmmOnCars

      You'd need to replace basically the whole exhaust, and it would probably hurt performance anyway
