      @@emilyslittlebooknook-8043 Hey, Emily! So it looks like honey is at least 82% sugars of different kinds. Depending on how much you consume this could add up and of course interfere with your plans of resetting your taste buds' sensitivity to sweetness. I did some digging for what's best - I personally have a mixture of powdered ginger root , turmeric and small doses of other ingredients. It looks like turmeric and ginger can be really helpful for your throat and also give you an immune system boost! There are some ready-mixtures you could probably find online including those too, or you could mix it yourself. Once your done you could whip it up into some warm coconut or almond milk for extra creaminess and whisk it to froth. Tea is of course also awesome - ginger, sage, thyme and chamomile seem to be the best. You could sweeten them with a bit less honey or try date syrup (the healthiest sweetener according to research summarized by nutritionfacts.org). Aand finally a good creamy veggie soup should also do the trick - pumpkin, carrot, muschroom or potato are good ideas here and you can make them savory! I hope this helps you and you can relieve your cough at least a little

      Hello. In the beginning of the year 2023 I decided to do a 14 day with out sugar. I only ended up doing 12 days but I did it with out any sugar not even natural. So the first day I allowed myself to eat a fruit It was heavenly as you explain it. A simple fruit is a dessert. No need to bake or prep. I started feeling more energy and even lost some weight. But then I quit. But I always kept thinking back on how I felt and this month August I decided to give it a try again. Today is my day # 19 with out sugar. I want to try 30 days not sugar. Not even natural. Once I reach that I will start introducing fruits. So thanks for sharing your experience with us.

    Nobody talks about sugar withdrawals. I guess my addiction was so bad that my withdrawals were insane! Lasted almost 2 weeks. I had extremely bad headaches and was taking pain pills straight those two weeks, and at one point I felt like I had the flu. No fever but I was fatigued and shivering in bed. That caused my anxiety to go up. I had absolutely no sugar craving though; namely, because I was forced to quit sugar by my doctor. So I couldn’t cheat at all. But! Literally on day 14 exactly it’s like I woke up a whole new person. Headaches completely gone, I had so much energy and I felt amazing! It’s scary to think what my body will do to make me reach for some more sugar. My body gave me one hell of a temper tantrum but I made it out the other end with no cheating! And I plan to never look back. I don’t think I can after those pains 😅 now I’m afraid to be a sugar addict once again. I’m always looking at labels out of fear of sugar.

      Oh wow! Thank you for sharing that is something that I have never heard of! I can't imagine the extent of what you were eating before in terms of sugar, but that sounds really intense. I hope you are still eating some delicious fruits, so you don't have to completely stay off' sugar? I don't know.. doctor's orders are pretty strict sometimes. But actually this really played in your favour.
      The biggest drive of change in the long-term is actually identity development. That means that if you tell yourself "I want sugar, but I can't have it" your identity is of a depraved person. Thanks to your doctor your identity is actually "I see this sugar, but my body does not want it and I don't either" it's a much more successful way of sticking to it in the long term. One thing that worries me is that you are afraid of it coming back. I am too, to some extent, but it doesn't occupy too much mental space because it is just FORBIDDEN in the house. I have lot's of dates and other sweet fruits at home. But outside on an occassional coffee trip, it's allowed. I can't buy it from the supermarket to walk around though. That's also off limits. So.. I hope this helps! Feel free to reply or connect on instagram for help

    • @alinabelousova
      @alinabelousova Před rokem +2

      I know how it feels. I've been on and off sugar so many times I've lost count. What you can do is replace those unhealthy treats with healthy ones that are made with dates, coconut sugar, maple syrup, etc. There are plenty of refined sugar-free recipes out there and possibly someone sells them locally too. You will slowly wean yourself from the "crack cocaine" without having horrible cravings, and still have the benefits of coming off sugar. Over time you'll even crave less of the naturally sweetened stuff as well. It's much more doable, then cutting out all sources of sugar + natural sweeteners don't have the same effect as white sugar does. I hope this helps.

    Wow, something clicked watching this video. I stopped drinking alcohol six years ago. I could not moderate my drinking, so I had to stop. I sometimes say it is the only thing I have been able to quit. I think because I was so thankful to be able to drop drinking, I have been less concerned with sugar. But I have struggled with sugar forever. Last month, I decided I could at least try not to eat any added sugar. I'm not 100% perfect with it yet, but I am no longer buying things like crackers and eating the whole box. I just don't buy them. Maybe some people can moderate their sugar intake, but if it is in the house I will eat it. Why would I have thought that sugar was any different from alcohol---another addictive and sugary substance? Best wishes to all of you who are trying to change for the better, and thank you, Antonia!

    I’m 10 days into the quitting sugar process. I’ve slipped a little bit here and there, but I’ve cut probably 95% of the obvious offenders: cookies, pies, cakes, brownies, etc. I’ve done an excellent job of staying away from processed foods.
    I’ve cut probably 90% of the carbohydrates that I used to consume also. No headaches or fatigue. My weight is at 24 BMI. My energy level is higher than before and I do not experience energy crashes.
    My complaints? I can’t find enough acceptable foods to eat and I stay hungry, a lot.

    After a few days the cravings are gone, I found it so easy that it was a bit of a slap in the face. I expected to be miserable and really feel that loss but instead I feel nothing but gains, a sense of accomplishment and nourishment and not of lack. I lost nothing when I gave up sugar, but except weight and fatigued and bloating. It is not hard I wish people would not assume it is. Our bodies do what they’re meant to immediately- this is really a strength of will issue. Our resolve has become weak and need to be stronger. Just go do it. The worst that can happen is u go back to sugar ifu do 1 or 2 weeks or months or whatever, ifu hate it go on back to sugar. Easy peasy.

      @AntoniatheUniverse  Před 3 lety +2

      I'm so happy to hear that you want to commit! 💫 I hope this will be helpful since I know you can succeed, so here we go: first, it is good to mention that you should not often end up in a situation where you are starving really bad and need food immediately - maybe you need more fiber in your meals and more complex carbohydrates to keep you satisfied for longer BUT if that's not an option here's the second line of defence - a glass of tea or water will always tame the hunger a little bit. You could have a glass of something to carry you over until you've made some healthy snacks. Alternatively, I go for dried fruits (dates, and figs are great options and good for digestion), nuts (also really healthy and calorie dense) or some healthy store-bought snacks. I like to buy coconut chips (they are super basic!), power balls (dates mixed with nuts into balls) and other things like that at the store. I know you asked for non-fruit options, but they really do help with sugar cravings albeit not immediately. I would keep some bananas and maybe frozen mango/berries etc. for quick smoothies. I can't come up with anything else off the top of my head, but I would gladly give you more information if you need! You can also DM me on Instagram 😊

    I want to know two things please.
    Exactly how does sugar make you gain excess weight? Im talking about refined white processed sugar, not the regular stuff in natural fruits.
    And two, how does quitting sugar make you lose extra weight that you already have?

    • @AntoniatheUniverse
      @AntoniatheUniverse  Před 2 lety +4

      Hey Scott!
      Sugar doesn't make you gain excess weight per se. If you ate exactly your recommended calorie amount every day, but in doughnuts, you wouldn't gain any weight at all. The problem is that processed sugar usually comes wrapped in very high-calorie carbs and is just very calorie-dense in general. This means that you get to eat a lot less food, but you receive much more energy from it. However, your belly and colon functions are quickly empty and require you to eat more food. This means that it's much easier to overeat if you are including lots of processed snacks in your diet.
      Conversely, it's good to focus on low-calorie density foods that take a lot of space in your stomach and colon to lose weight. These tend to be healthier for you as they are pretty much fruits and veggies full of vitamins, nutrients, and fiber. Focusing on them will typically allow you to eat more food, but you will feel sated with lower density without storing the extra calories as fat on your body.
      Hope that helps, and I wish you a lovely new year! Take care 💕

      If you don't want that or don't have instagram, I think the best thing is to work on your mindset e.g. "I want chocolate, but I can't have it" versus "I like chocolate, but I do not want it, because it doesn't serve the person I am now" and creating a new identity around that might help. If you tell yourself that and live that identity long enough, chocolate will slowly lose it's grips on you! 😁 I love to eat bliss balls with cocoa now, no sugar, no garbage, still amazingly sweet and tasty.

      That's nice to hear, Antonia. I visited once Germany and I liked it to visit twice more. I think I do not do social media, but I definitely would like to hear more about your recipes. Please, if you only can, make a video what you eat and maybe some easy to prepare treats in the near future. I really like your content and now subscribing as well :)

I hope you can come back soon and look around :) Other than that I am proud of you for staying away from social media, you made a good call. In terms of recipes, I think it's a great idea and I will definitely do that too in the future. I love nutrition and cooking so much. In some of my "day in the life" videos you can see the market that I go to or the foods that I cook that are always really simple. If you have a look over here www.plantbasedcooking.com/whole-food-plant-based-recipes/desserts/ there are some amazing whole food deserts (not with processed sugar) These are really lovely to try out esp. in the beginning :)

    I cant find any nutrition in the foods I eat. Idk how im not more ill. My birthday is Friday. I start Saturday.
    These are my daily food choices. Idk how or why i got so out of control
    3 - 5 cake donuts, a snickers bar, hot chocolate and scoops of white redined sugar in my coffee, two pieces of toast and butter, peanut butter, jelly, pancakes and maple syrup, soda, (thank goodness very little alcohol) muffins, cookies, monster cookies, spaghetti, doritos, 7 layer dip, taco dip, eggs, trail mix, ho hos, oreos, cup cakes, cake, pie, whip cream, ranch dressing, processed foods like whats in a box.
    New foods: protein foods not sweetened or salted, fish like cod or salmon, healthy bread, fruit, veggies, salads, chicken, turkey, more water, sugar free tea.
    Anyone have any other ideas. Im really worried about headaches at work. Im a RN at a nursing home. It takes all my strnegth and energy to be on my feet all day. God i just want to quit for 3 months, get healthy, and find something else but i have to wait till July.

    Fruit is healthy full stop providing its not excessive, i gave up sugar for i am pre diabetic, i found my mind was the culprit saying have that chocolate and cake but as soon has i ate it i felt sick, mind over matter. I have the occassional small piece of cake, but fruit taste great if it ripe buy in season. But i don,t want to be on medication and for me thats is my deterrant, there is only so much that your body can repair itself of poor food choices and i am glad i still have that choice.

      This is the truth! Fruit is healthy and full of vitamins and it is NOT the real problem. The real problem is poor food choices outside of fruits and vegetables that just have a magnifying detrimental effect on our medical conditions. Hope you get better over time and never have to go on medication!

    • @AntoniatheUniverse
      @AntoniatheUniverse  Před 3 lety +4

      One thing I can attribute to the sugar being gone is definitely better skin and relationship to food. Like sugary things are just the easiest carb to crave and when you get in control of that craving you just deal better with cravings in general.. it helped me so much to improve my diet and that resulted in definitely feeling better. More whole food type meals have improved my sleeping patterns - I used to crash in the afternoon and that's mostly gone! I can't say if it worked so well at night, I'm just not sure.
      In terms of happiness and well-being it makes me so happy to be able to eat more food (that has less calories), have nicer skin, withstand what used to be really bad cravings and enjoy fruit again. Switching sugary snacks for fruit probably will have many health benefits in the long term too.. so lots of up-sides!

      I make coffee with almond milk and that makes it pretty mild tasting 😁 In terms of tea, I used to only drink it with maple syrup and I miss that now, but I've found some teas with cocoa pieces (so a chocolaty taste) those are really tasty! And I also make tea with milk sometimes which I know most people hate, but I love it 😇 Finally I like to make deserts with dates and nuts that are really sweet but not artificial and sometimes I'll have those on the side too 😁

    Is also coconut sugar not a great option? I mean it's natural sugar and has a small calories.

    • @AntoniatheUniverse
      @AntoniatheUniverse  Před 3 lety +2

      Thank you for the question! Coconut sugar is probably the best option if you HAVE to have sugar - it has some small amounts of nutrients and minerals, but otherwise it is pure sugar, just like regular white sugar. This means that it will cause your blood sugar to spike nevertheless, so make sure to use it very sparingly. Wherever you can, go for fruit sugar from whole plants. The difference is actually in the structure. The sugar in fruits is packaged in phytonutrients, which take longer to break down. This means the process is much slower than with any type of pure sugar, where your body just spikes the blood as a reaction. It also isn't as addictive, because there's not such a sugar high and of course, fruits come with vitamins and other nice things in the package as well.

      Hey! Please remember that fruits have tons of vitamins and the sugar in fruits is not the same as the ones in sweets like cookies. Fruit is an important part of a healthy diet and has lots of fiber! You can still count the calories in your day if you'd like and you will notice that fruit hardly makes up anything. Example: I ate a 1,5 kg watermelon yesterday for a grand total of 350ish calories. That's as much as 4 oreo cookies! But watermelon has fiber, vitamin A and vitamin C

Don't worry about slipping up once though! It's really hard to work out a lot of calories. Getting into extremes is not really sustainable, so the best idea is to just get the muffins out of the house or try to eat a small piece next time. If you don't have Instagram, I would just like to suggest eating more starchy foods - pasta, potatoes, beans, things like that pack a good amount of calories and keep you satiated. I've seen this rule of thumb that goes like: Create a plate with 50% veggies in it, 25% starchy foods like pasta, rice, quinoa and 15% of some protein like tofu, edamame, beans, things like that and 10% nuts and seeds + herbs.
