Hi Phil enjoyed the walk down Spon Lane I remember the Dartmouth at the front of the pub just to the right was the top end of paradise Street I remember the Labour exchange and Robinson cake shop at the end of the main High Street shops and we're the new college is there was a Salvation army church and car park and some small factory's just past the college on the right I worked for a firm called Grenweld as a Tig Welder I'm sure it was around that area all the best Paul
Spon Lane rekindled a few memories, but I can't say I recognised very much of what you showed. You mentioned Paradise Street, and when I worked at Radio Rentals in the late 60s early 70s - in the High Street, up near Dartmouth Square, I remember that the rear of our shop came out in Paradise Street. From memory, not to be totally relied upon these days, it ran from the junction of Dartmouth Square and Spon Lane slightly diagonally down the back of the High Street to the road - the name of which I can't remember - where the billiard hall was (was it Lyng Lane?}. Going back to Spon Lane, it seems to me that there is a glaring paradox in all the changes, that is that the more they 'improve' things the worse it gets!
You are indeed correct about Lyng Lane, somehow that road passed me by. It was left at the old fire station whilst Paradise St continued a few more yards to the crossroads of Moor St and St Michael St with Price st ahead of it. Many thanks for that
@@awalkwithphil it's not their fault...I asked a girl with the "buggy" about 20 years ago what she was hoping for her little one, she said...footballer, model ! I felt so sorry for her Dellusions.
@@awalkwithphil I had some involvement with Sandwell College - in Smethwick - about 30 years ago and they were busy recruiting students from places like Malaysia. Further and higher education in this country has lost its true purpose and become more of a business.

Phil, I was born in WB during the War and have lived here ever since. Your walking videos are so nostalgic. Thank You!

A refreshing walk 😊. Loved the houses in the middle of an industrial estate, very unusual 😊
They certainly did look odd

Sorry but these new builds are ugly and the houses, affordable housing are slums of the future I prefer the old houses at least you have gardens
That's very true
