- I never knew the existence of such thing before I went to this place. On my first trip I saw one stopped and I was amazed how unsafe by today standard it is. On the second trip we saw this bad boy running so we jumped in for a little ride!

Thats terrifying....
wow This look so dangerus to me
Is there anything to stop you going over the top or around the bottom?
It gives you a lot of warnings, but not actually anything to stop you.
Yes. At the base, there is a switch that will shut off the lift if you step on it, and, at the top, there is a switch that is triggered by weight on the step past a certain spot. The base is usually below the bottom floor, but not by much, so you could easily crawl up through the hole in the floor if you managed to miss the last stop. The lower switch is visible at 1:42. It looks like a rectangular step. The upper switch is difficult to see. It is located on the guide rails and, if a step is loaded, is triggered when the step's wheel passes over it. As a fail-safe, there is also a horizontal bar at the very top of the lift, which will engage if anything lifts it (such as a rider's head). All three of these safety switches will stop the motor, open the clutch, and engage the brakes. The lift will be inoperable until the rest button (usually located on the first floor) is pressed. There's a small wall-mounted box in the left corner visible at 2:05. This is probably the reset button.
Note that they are riding the lift incorrectly. The admonition on the belt should read:
FACE THE BELT
USE HAND HOLD
TO STOP-PULL ROPE
