    This video has made me miss Ireland😢 Loved the video of my Dad’s home county. Who’d have thought you could miss the weather!!!

    Good to see you back doing your videos.
    Was there any cloud around when your drone didn't want to come back? I've had a similar experience when some cloud rolled in and the Air didn't want to come back down because the sensors were detecting the cloud. I had to wait until it cleared again to bring it back down. Now, if there is cloud around, I switch off the sensors. They would also explain why you could fly sideways where there are no sensors.
    Good luck, mate!

    Did the same thing about 1 month ago when I was in the Caribbean. Winds were 40mph and 'tempted' to get some Mavic Air footage but the poor Mavic couldn't match the mighty winds. Tested about 5-10 feet off the ground and immediately new it wasn't going to work. Hey, gotta try...I get it! Nicely done though.....Just bought a dead-cat myself because I realized how bad my audio was getting when outside in windy conditions. Hope all your gear is weather sealed! 🙄🙄

      I'm thinking your Mavic Air may have got caught in some extremly high winds once out over the lake (which may have been blocked by mountains closer to land..). The winds out over the waters are almost always stronger (especially the higher you go). I'm thinking that 'may' have been what happened since it seems to be fine now. Glad you got it back and kept your cool...

      Yepp! The equipment is all weather sealed, minus the drone.
      40mph winds!!!!! Jesus. You're lucky you got it back.
      Yeah, a good deadcat can really save the video!

    Same happened to my spark when flying through cloud. It came down very very slowly and the app wouldn’t even let me cancel the return to home. Lucky I managed to get underneath it.

    Hi Francis, while you are in South Kerry check out Bray Tower Valentia and the Kerry Cliffs. Maybe weather will keep drone in the case but some lovely scenery on the Skellig ring. Love your drone work...

    Nice video!Usually, forests and lakes produce mist during such weather you were flying in. Clouds, mist, rain drops might have affected the obstacles sensors. Also, flying in cold weather, the heat generated by the drone that is taken out by the fans may transform into mist and water droplets and that may affect the sensors as well as the internal electronics.
    Fly safe :)Proper Job mate!

    After the latest update my mavic air kept on moving forward slowly . I managed to land it safely but I know that feeling when you are not sure you can trust it. Sucks.

    Sensors are doing that sensing. Mine keeps saying calibrate on pc. 3rd time in as many uses. But. They work!! Too well picks me up 5 or more feet away. Meaning gotta go up and sod off from things to have it move. Tested this at home. Fucking amazing piece of kit

    Even its release for more than a year, I think Mavic Air is still a very good PRICE/PERFORMANCE drone.
    If you want to see some more scenery footage taken with Mavic Air you should visit my channel.
    All videos upto now show footage taken with my Mavic Air and none of them are color graded.
    Tip: Watch all of them in 1080p, because CZcams's compression makes them look bad.

  • @stefanru5147
    @stefanru5147 Před 5 lety

    Hey Francis, I really like your videos!
    I had a similar situation with my spark in bad weather conditions. I could not fly forward anymore. So as the other comments say I also think the obstacle avoidance sensors are tricking the drone. Try switching them off the next time you have the issue.
    I'm curious if this will help.
    Thanks and keep up the good work!

    Another thing, starting the drone next to the car is not a good idea for GPS sensors. Metal too close. Not sure if that messed with it or not.

      Verryyy true!

    • @Honeypot-x9s
      @Honeypot-x9s Před 5 lety

      GPS isn’t what stabilizes these drones, they have IMUs, VPS, VIOs and other things... ya shouldn’t launch in a or near a car cuz mavic air has shittiest compass ever and get confused all the time.
      As for what it was doing, no malfunction, the reason it wouldn’t move was because the wind was too strong for the little drone, then he flew it till the point where his battery was critical (autolanding) before using RTH which of coarse will pick safest option which is landing since critical battery is in “Warning-High” status (if you read the logs). Basically this kid is a noob pilot that did every noob mistake including panicking... glad and surprised he got it back if it was as bad as he said.
      I have a mavic air as well, in stupid strong wind it’s pretty pathetic. Have to switch it to sport mode to fight it. Mavic pro and mavic 2 series seem to handle wind better reguardless or what reviewers said at launch of mavic air.. mavis Air is impressive for its size but for its price it’s pretty meh..
