    At 18:30, when you have the engine revving, there is a small sticker on a line that looks like it has air pushing it. The air appears to blow the sticker harder as revs increase. I don't think there are any lines that should be putting air in that area, and the fan wouldn't cause air to blow in relation to engine revs like that, and vibration generally wouldn't cause a sticker to vibrate in a way that it looks like air is blowing it.

    I have heard this exact thing with a bad exhaust manifold gasket or loose bolts and or cracked manifold . The air escaping between the metal exhaust gasket makes that noise as if you were blowing a blade of grass high pitched squeal. We have had this noise in our shop and was a couple of loose bolts that caused the gasket to blow out. It’s worth a shot to look into the exhaust manifold/ gasket area 😊

    Randy, look at 19:20, you can see the retaining clip is way down the brake booster vacuum hose. Put it in the right spot so it seals up. I'll bet the whistling is vacuum leaking from that hose, cause there's a lot of vaccum that runs in that hose for the booster.

  • @justinlabadie7484
    @justinlabadie7484 Před rokem +104

    The cat is probably plugged causing too much back pressure in the exhaust system. You could pull the upstream oxygen sensor out and hook up a back pressure gage. The gage should be no more than 1 psi at idle. I'm going to say once you hit the gas it will peg the gage out. Have had KIa Souls that make the same noise at work.

    I wonder if all it is, is a blown exhaust manifold gasket. It would explain the sound if air is shooting through a torn spot on the gasket. It sounds super similar to the sound you'd make as a kid if you put a thick blade of grass between your thumbs and blow through it. Kinda the same concept too

  • @patriotgarage
    @patriotgarage Před rokem +7

    Randy. My wife noticed it. There is a tag on a hose on the back of the engine driver's side. When the engine revs that tag blows in the wind. You have an exhaust leak on the back of the engine. That oxygen sensor might be loose or it blew the exhaust manifold gasket.
    My guess is the underlying cause is a partially restricted converter.

    The 2014 Kia Forte EX has the 2.0L Theta II GDI (direct injection) engine. It might be under several recalls. That engine is notorious for using oil, and if the intake isn't serviced regularly the intake valves will carbon up and leak. Check the oil for sparkles... Some Theta II engines had oil gallery issues which ends up running the main crank bearings dry - it doesn't look like yours has that issue yet because your block hasn't developed an extra port caused by a thrown rod...

Also check the PCV valve on there to see if it could be clogged also. The only way you can clean the valves in that car is if you spray throttle body and air intake cleaner into the throttle body have someone rev the car to 2000 RPMs spray it in a little at a time.Injector cleaners won't do it that will only clean the injectors on these cars because the valves are above the injectors.

    I watched a little more of the video on the Kia I noticed the vacuum line coming from the power brakes booster on the other end towards the engine the clip is like way down the hose not up towards the end of the hose you'll see what I mean when you look at it it could be whistling right there getting the air leak? It does sound like a whistling like an air leak? Give that a check see if that might be it good luck man

    Randy, it's the guts in the cat. I had a 02 f150 4.2V6 sounded the same during excelleration. A bad o2 sensor caused this problem.

    You are close with a vacuum leak. With it running pull the oil cap. If there is a lot of pressure in the crankcase the Pcv system has failed. The noise you are hearing is air being forced out around the crankshaft main seals. A new valve cover will fix it

    I feel I need to be smart here and I vote for an exhaust leak/whistle. There, I said it! On a different note, that could apply to people who buy auction cars, I have a piece of wisdom to share. Most of you probably already know this but I didn't and now I do, and it is one of those, Ah-Ha, moments.
    If your battery goes dead for a while and/or you put a new battery in it and shortly after that you have one or two codes pop up like P0430 for the cats or you scan the car and "Readiness" isn't all checked off for your emissions test, you need to run a manufacturer specific "Drive Cycle" so the computer has the time to scan all the sensors and show that it is communicating. You might be able to Google it, or a trusted and friendly mechanic can print it out for you.

    Take an ordinary short water hose..Place one end on your ear and pass the second end to places where you suspect air leakage..I use this method to detect strange sounds

    That white piece of paper were referring to is on the driver side right behind the engine when you rev the engine up that paper constantly moves

    Definitely a clogged catalytic converter that caused so much back pressure that it's leaking from an exhaust gasket. I had the same exact problem with a Hyundai bought from auction. The motor burns oil which clogged the cat over time. I cut open the catalytic converter and it was completely clogged with carbon. If you seal the exhaust leak, I can almost guarantee that the engine will not run. Good luck

    It’s in the top in the cash out there and that’s why we hit the driver. What happens if the cash out of the barrel is way now it is riding so there were time you hit the gravel it make that squeaky noise shaft is grinding on the bearing.

    Yep that is an exhaust leak. The whistle is air going past the metal gasket. Like a turkey call. The upstream oxygen sensor confirms it.

    A very good possibility is the crank pully the dampener if that is the kind of pulley with the rubber in between the metal if that becomes dried out or cracked it actually slips between the metal causing a shrieking noise just a thought

    It's a long shot but IF it's an internal engine problem it MAY have an engine recall on it. If so, totally worth the diagnostics at the Kia dealer, in my opinion.
