Man Makes Friends with Woodpecker that Runs into Windows

"My husband and I were sitting in our living room and we heard a thud in the laundry room window. He went to see what happened outside and found a woodpecker on the ground. I went outside and he immediately picked the woodpecker up and was talking to it and petting it. The woodpecker was seeming to cheer up and then climbed into his hand and shoulder. The woodpecker then flew into our front door and continued to show affection to them before taking off."

Great life experience you've captured there! I too have befriended a woodpecker after watering my citrus trees and giving the bird a light shower with the hose on a hot summer day when it was trying to get my attention. Haven't been lucky enough to get it to perch on me. These experiences of ours and others, lead me to believe birds have a higher level of intelligence than we give them credit for.
