I believe that the sport of disc golf matters. This is the story of four players in the Southern California region who believe this also and are making an impact with the way that they are involved in their community through the sport.
Thanks to all who made this documentary a possibility by being willing to participate in the film, and encouraging me along the way.
Spread the word! #discgolfmatters

Choice ... I finished last in my first tournament in April 19 & have the opportunity to be the first PDGA member to go from last ta first . Unlikely but I throw most days & can only improve . All I want do is throw everyday , thanks DG & thanks DG community ChCh NZ
You should come to Finland, we have a ton of beatiful courses here.
Just got started this year at 35. So far no sport has better suited my lifestyle. It's so nice to be able to finish my night shift and have my pick from about 6 different courses near my commute. All without having to worry about tee time reservations and fees. I should have started years ago.
Disc Golf is the best community of people that you could ever be around.
49 years for me. We threw through tires buried upright in the ground in 1970 with Wham-os. My how the sport has grown. I hope I am found dead on a course with disc in hand at over 100 years old. Thanks for this inspiring post.
Ultimate and Disc golf are by far the most underrated sports.
I have updated the video with Closed Captioning for those in the deaf disc golf community or people who are hard of hearing, enjoy!
totally appreciate it!
Thank you. I am deaf and new to the sport.
WOW! Great video.... "I don't want to say that disc golf is going to save the world, buuuuttt...... disc golf is going to save the world!"
Addictive is an understatement.
Great video! When I was a student and worked at Biola for 13 years there were many class breaks & lunch hours spent playing at La Mirada. John Wiese & I would sometimes play together... many great memories.
As a 20 year old guy, this is a great way to get fresh air, enjoy company, not spend too much money and hone my skills :) Glad I found this sport
I just accidentally clicked on this video but was immediately pulled in. My fam was back in SoCal right before Christmas and met my cousins for a round at La Mirada on a very rainy day. Chatted with a father and son right at the start, talked about not caring about the rain to discover they were also from wet Washington 😂 (only saw 2 other golfers the whole time). We so enjoyed this course and all the flocks of crazy colored birds and pelicans in the pond, and had no idea this was one of the OG‘s! Thanks to this video for giving me history that enriches our experience. My brother straight up parked that hole shown at 12 minutes 15 seconds. Even before watching this, I also thought, what a gem of a place!
Just the day before we played La Mirada, my dad was bragging to my brother and I that unlike us, he had still never lost a disc. Well, the next day he threw a Roc (borrowed from me) forehand approach, landed on the hill, and rolled all the way down into the drink kerplunk. That water isn’t deep, but opaque and we didn’t find it 😜
wow im completely blown away. that just blew my mind. every person on the planet needs to view this. amazing job. must share.
I started playing on Tuesday , played on Thursday and Friday and now ima play on Sunday at this park. Already in love with this sport and inviting all my friends.
It’s funny watching this documentary now 7 years old. In the last few years it has exploded! I was lucky enough to have a friend teach me how to play 15 years ago. I love this game more every day.
Stumbled upon this during a trying time in my life, and it has inspired me to work harder at achieving my goals. Thank you for sharing this beautiful video.
I can’t believe I have seen this until now (Oct 2020)!
Fantastic documentary! Love disc golf & the DG community! #discgolfmatters
I've been playing since '83 and I just saw this. It's already 7 years old, but it's so well done. (Oct '22)
Nice Work everyone!!!
The more light we can shed on this sport the better, one day people wont laugh at us for feeling the game soo much, and they will be upset because they didnt start sooner.... the age of disc golf is upon us!!
Thank you. I'm doing a presentation at the HOPE Conference in Maine on Friday about the mental health aspects of disc golf as an activity, sharing my own journey and from Zen and the Art of Disc Golf. I will use this in my presentation, as well. You rock.
Hello, spread this video all over the social websites, because it is amazing, people deserve to know what discgolf is! Big like!
That intro was legendary.
Awesome vid.Took up the game five yrs ago and haven’t looked back.Disc golf love✌🏻
Extremely well done! Makes me proud to be a part of Disc Golf and their community!
One of my local courses is one of the oldest in the country, huntsville alabama Brahan Springs course made in the early 80s and we hosted the 1997 world championships. I've been wanting to get the course more exposure it's such a great course
I just found disc golf about two months ago and I am absolutely hooked. We only have one small course about a half hour from my house, but the guys I play with have convinced the local parks department to set up another course 10 minutes from me and two others are being discussed by the rec department now. We play best shot doubles every Saturday morning and have a little putting league every other Wednesday evening after work.
Excellent video! That's how you help grow the sport!
AWESOME JOB ON THE VIDEO.
DISC GOLF ROCKS !!!!!
It's time to save the world.
Awesome doc! Really well done, I enjoyed it very much.
how have i not seen this before now? fantastic video!
New to the sport, July 2020 is when I decided to learn how to play seriously and wow! What a wonderful sport it has everything including exercise, I’m hooked for life, just can’t stop thinking about it. Thanks for the documentary, very excited to see where the sport goes in the near future.
This video makes me love disc golf even more every time I watch it, so inspiring!
What they were saying about not having an athletic backround, but still enjoying and being good at disc golf is 100% true. Im a scrawny short skinny drama kid who cant throw (let alone catch) any kind of ball to save my life. But you give me a disc Ill put it anywhere at all for you, I love this sport so much and hope to one day be good enough to really compete professionailly.
Absolutely love this video. From a documentary standpoint I wish it had a central narrator to take you through the history then have everyone else sprinkled in but I may just be conditioned from watching too much Modern Marvels in the past.
If anybody is ever around the state of Kentucky, please consider coming to Edmonson County and Warren County. 10+ disc golf courses in the area. We really love our disc golf here! Great video by the way 😁
Excellent video. It explains exactly how I feel.
My home course in Tyler Texas was home of the 2020 Texas state championship this year!!!! Love it...keep it coming. Great content.
Thanks! Fun to watch a national documentary where I know or have met at least a dozen folks that appeared in it! It is a community, do join in if you haven't already.
I really enjoyed this, very well done!
DGweekly Thanks so much!
DGweekly Make sure you share it !!!
Absolutely great! Thanks a lot for making such a great video. It truly captured how great this game is and how strong our love is for it.
So glad I found this doc. Amazing doc for the amazing game I love and play every chance I get
how often do you play, when was the last time? be honest
Good job
Just outstanding
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
never heard of it, when I first saw the baskets I thought they were trash cans, but then I saw a couple throwing disct at it, did a little research on google and thats how I got in to it!
Back in late July 2003 An uncle could not play he hurt his arm playing the day before and a different uncle asked If I wanted to play. My brother just got up when I did that morning and then my cousin son of the uncle asked if he wanted to play too. We played in Winnona Minnesota (Grandmothers Family Reunion) on the easier course around the lake Then latter I got a old Rubber putter Pre DuPont material and a Stingray from my Uncle who was using those found discs as water discs I lost on a old gone Sign course in my town. My mom has that putter disc as she does my brothers classic Aviar that he got as his putter and old 1999 Stratus that my Cousin was going to retire soon. Then I got better discs later as did my brother finnaly settling on a DX Gator he beat in as his putter and I went through a few putters before finding my brothers 173- 174 g Magnet he discarded on the way to finding his DX Gator worked as his putter. My brother hates how tall putters were in 2005. I have found that older stiff Hard D Magnet nearly max weight worked best for my putting style. I did have a G9i Wizzard 172 g still have it, as a main putter but once that disc beat in it flew odd for me and a 174-175 g X Putt'r that if those X Putt'r did not concave in once it broke in a tiny bit after 3 or 4 shots into a basket, they would have been great. I Still have the Hard stiff D Magnet and Just got two Jawbreaker Plastic Magnets 173-174 grams one is Purple with blue specks the putter, and the approach disc is green with Blue specks to replace the 175 gram Macaroni Orange Magnet I used as an approach disc. The original putter is Blue with red writing on it. I had to put the ring on the Jawbreaker Magnets as I use those as a thumb guide.
Thank you for making and sharing this video. It's inspiring.
there were pockets going on elsewhere in the country too. i have a dated trophy from winning a Frisbee Golf tournament in 1980. sponsored by Xerox, in Rochester, NY. This was initiated by a Frisbee pioneer from the area named Jim Palmieri. I used one of those Midnight Flyers they mention in this video for a driver and a "professional" model Frisbee for a putter. Also, when i first attended college in the fall of 1981, an employee at Hamilton College named Keith Blackburn had a target course set up all over campus. been playing since then and love to see the expansion of the game, in numbers but also in diversity and geography.
Im so glade i found this video i grew up down the street from La Mirada park i remember seeing the baskets riding my bike growing up as a kid i moved to Tulsa Ok 6 years ago and 1 year ago was introduced to disc golf and fell in love i cant wait to come visit home and play this course for my first time
CIK Productions is the best around!! Love this!
***** You the man!!
Jomez
Wow! Great job. I love the positive attitude. We have to spread this video around.
Awesome video.. thank you.
Disc golf will save the world! 😂
This was fantastic, well done!
This is amazing video amazing sports, big hands for you guys who made this \m/
Great video! Giving this a shot for the first time today. Excited! :-)
This is a great representation of DG. Good work!
Love it. I just shared it to our Permaculture Country Club, Costa Rica's sustainable answer to killing the common country club.
Fun! Fun! Fun!
I understand now that the transition from a common Frisbee into discs that's basicly putter, midrange, fairway and distance driver, with different TURN and FADE, must be a preeeetty significant change!!
Absolutely love this!! Def need more of this going around. Thank you!
And Covid said, "No problem, dude. I got ya covered."
DAD: We have been playing about 3 months with my son aged 11 pictured and younger son aged 5. In about 3 months my youngest has gone from 142 shots on our local course to 98 today. Whenever we go anywhere the first question is: "Do they have a course near by?" great family sport for people of all ages. We regular see a gentleman in his 80s on our local course too.
Awesome! Great video to share!
Thanks! Awesome video coming from the ATX
Well done guys. This is perfect
Well done! Love the game and shared it!
Nice video! Pumps me up, Im going to go out to the course now!
Well done!
Such a quality and amazing look into the Disc Golf World!!! Thanks MRob!!!!
Anthony Argueta Thanks bro! You're the man!
Fantastic. Love frolf! :)
I'd love to see a part 2
this is everything!!
I like disc golf, even i am not yet very good throw straight. Started by getting +12 total on a 9 hole course. Nowadays is always -1 or 0 all the time. Took about 1 1/2 months of almost playing every day to get to this level where i am now.
This vid is still very relevant, love it
I can't disc very much anymore due to chronic illness. This made me happy!
I love the La Mirada courses, played them a bunch, but I always thought the one in Huntington Beach was the 2nd with permanent baskets? That was my home course. Made it up to Pasadena a few times too.
I'm addicted!
Well done fellas!
Very cool!!
this was amazing
10+ years of playing... people playing 2 years can and will destroy me. Its still fun
10/10 Points alone for C2C soundtrack. :D
First Class!
This makes me proud to live in Southern California! Thank you to all that works everyday to take Disc Golf to the next level.
Bravo!
This is absolutely awesome. This is what I will be sending to people who ask me what disc golf is.
Alan Ferguson Thanks Alan!
I wasnt gonna play today, but this inspired me, Borderlands is near by. Ima go play 18.
well done!!!! needs to be longer and you forgot to mention steady edddy
Yeah! How the heck you gonna make a documentary about disc golf and NOT mention Eddy Hedrick- the inventor if the freaking sport???
Who would dislike this????
People that don't like the lack of women in it
Carter I go to play, not pick up on chicks. You got the wrong sport my friend.
I'm talking about the documentary not featuring very many women.
Some people think that's sexist
Carter This wasn't an intentional thing, but really it was honestly just due to the time constraints that i had with the documentary. I did not try to exclude anyone, and even had a couple female interviews scheduled that just fell through. In a perfect world it would have been great to get interviews from the female community as well, and I apologize for those that felt it didn't reflect properly on the sport, however it is true that the majority of disc golf is much dominated by men. Would love to see lots more females get involved in it!
Great sport !
there were also two brothers who were great promoters of disc sport generally, although Ultimate was their vehicle, Dave and Pat Naylon, who were active very early in that upstate NY region
Great stuff. 2nd year, 54yo
The video looks awesome! But there's one problem....I couldn't get what was said, that's cuz I am deaf! I am sure you know there is a large group of players that are Deaf. Please, please have captions up for us to better understand what is spoken. Keep up the good work and grow the sport!
Cale Owens Turn on CC?
My phone wouldn't let me....let me check with my Ipad or laptop.
Ugh auto generated captions....doesn't match up to what's being said.
Cale Owens Thanks so much for your comment Cale! Yes, I was able to actually run into a couple of those players, so cool to see! I'm actually taking ASL at Biola University as well, so i've been able to grow and better understand the deaf culture as well which is so cool to see. I can add subtitles via youtube in the next few days hopefully!
Disc Golf Matters. thank you! You rock! Don't you dare stop taking ASL classes! Keep going! Thanks again.
Most 🔥 intro ever
Sweet vid
Teared up.
I don't even disc golf but this is cool 👍🏽
Amen!
I moved to california 3 and a half years ago and hadnt played since I moved. La Mirada is the second course I played out here and now I play it nearly every day. I had no idea the history behind this course. They dont lie when they said that this sport helps you become a better person. Between the drive to get better and the people like Jase that Ive met I feel as if disc golf is my new addiction.
Funny enough I was out there on fathers day and a bunch of guys in fancy innova polos walked up. I jokingly said "nice shirt, where did you get them?" ( I secretly wanted one). They told me that they work for innova. we joked around and they gave me advice on what and how to throw. Later on I find out that I was talking to Dave (basically the inventor of disc golf).
Love this!
Nick Vitellaro Thanks nick!
Nick Vitellaro love this golf :oD
Hey my local course is in this! Wills park!
Awesome video! Really well done....this will help people understand my addiction. :) Keep it up!
Matt Nemmers Totally agree with you! People keep asking why I love to play I am just going to send this this video.
Love DG Kiaora from Aotearoa New Zealand
Awesome Video! What is the name of the song that starts at 17:34? Thanks!
Neat video but it's too bad that Oak Grove and Steady Ed were not mentioned (or did I miss it?)
What is McBeast saying at the end?
