  • Oh man you know the song! It will get stuck in your head and after all these years it's still a banger: Teriaki Boys - Tokyo Drift! We are watching and reacting to one of the best entries in the series franchise The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift. Enjoy the reactions and peep our review in the discussion!
Fast and Furiouuuuuus!!!! The love for this film is sort of split down the middle with the audience. Where do you land on it? By the way we are doing the release order. Please don't spoilt anything in the comments for the ladies on the chronology of the Fast Saga. (Yes apparently they're calling it The Fast Saga now) Micky and Suraj have not watched f9 yet so they will be having fresh reactions once we reach that ridiculous point.

I always felt this one got underserved hate. I guess the huge point against it is a lack of interesting main characters, with the exception of Han. Out of all the movies, it really is the only one In the series about racing. Yes, the first two take place within the street race scene and has racing, but this movie legitimately banks on the main character learning a particular racing style, and culminates in an actual race with the antagonist. The first two were about solving a particular crime. While “Fast Five” is my overall favorite in the series, and I prefer the more action-oriented era of the later movies, “Tokyo Drift” is maybe my favorite of the original 3, and definitely is a soft spot for me haha.

If I'm not mistaken looking back, Tokyo Drift was totally just a spin off and it's own thing at the time. The fans liked it but REALLY wanted a sequel/continuation with the OG characters. That's how Fast and Furious and the rest of the franchise came to be after convincing them to come back. Tokyo Drift was THEN written into the story after the fact. The after credits in Tokyo Drift was just a nod I think.

That's what I remember. I think it was supposed to be an attempt to do better internationally. Overall though, it actually did worse than the other two movies. But you're right they did have to add on to the storyline of the movies that's why at the end of this movie Vin Diesel said Han used to roll with him . Once five and six came out I switched how I watched the movies , it's better to watch The fast and furious 2 fast 2 furious fast and furious fast five fast and furious 6 then Tokyo drift the movie seven and eight . So once you did episode 6 with the shaw character that's when they decided to older brother deckard be the guy that caused Hans crash to happen in Tokyo drift

That mustang at the end couldn't really be called a "muscle car" in my opinion. It had the body of a mustang, but literally everything else would have been replaced with Japanese performance parts. And in the case of the engine, it actually shared the same motor as a Skyline, which is called an RB26. So the car was just as much a tuner as the one DK was driving.

The movie mentioned in this video about Han is actually an even bigger deal. It’s a little indie crime movie called BETTER LUCK TOMORROW with an all Asian American cast with a yet to pop off John Cho. This movie was revolutionary for its representation of Asians. But what’s more fascinating is that Vin Diesel loved what Justin Lin did so much he deemed the film canon to the F&F universe. Several main characters from that film appear in F&F as a nod but as different characters. The skinny Asian guy in Han’s crew was one of the main characters and an Asian FBI agent in the fourth film was also a main character.
But if people really like Han I absolutely encourage everyone to watch the film because it 1000% informs his entire character. Han starts out in that film as an asshole and kind of like the “bad influence” among the friend group, but when shit hits the fan, Han turns out to be the only one with an actual moral conscience and you see how this traumatic event forever influences his character in future Fast films. It really informs the “you make choices and never look back” even more. Han doesn’t look back because he’s been running from something his whole life and that film tells you the full story. His iconic snacking in the films was also born from the fact that he is CONSTANT chain smoker in the indie film and quit after the events of the film.
Movie is seriously dope. Check it out!

Tokyo Drift was critically ridiculed when it came out, but I believe if they'd had a more fleshed out lead character (and more charismatic actor) it would have done amazing. The actual premise reminds me of those simple but strong plots from the 80's like Karate Kid, etc. I actually really enjoy this film and it landed Justin Lin his amazing stretch of directing F&F films.

The drift scenes in the crowded intersection are definitely CGI enhanced. You cannot close off a street in Japan for a movie shooting. There's actually a gigantic parking lot you can rent, specifially made for car scenes in Japan, where they built the intersection, and the background and a lot of the crowd was CGI.

I have seriously enjoyed this journey so far with you guys watching this franchise, I love this saga I just seen the 9th movie at the imax theater last night in Florida! It was such a great experience. Some of the best action sequences I've ever seen and the character development in this one was put together very well but the story has extended to many places, in my opinion it's the most DIFFERENT film out of the entire franchise, very different feel to this one.

About the guy missing fingers: If you fuck up in Yakuza it's kind of a tradition to cut one of your fingers in front of your boss as kind of a penance / apology. They start cutting from their little finger inwards because your 2 last fingers are most associated with control/finesse/precision when maneuvering a katana (it's an oooold tradition).
And you're basically marked forever and considered a huge dishonor

There is literally a Need For Speed Canyon where you have to race the bosses of each region down the canyon. And the way it works feels just like the ending, because you have to race twice. Once chasing them, the second time running from them.
And you can go off the edge and die in it!

This is this one of the best F&F movies!....Eventhough they used an AWD Car Mitsubishi Lancer EVO which is used for Rally Car but the producers decided to use it for Drifting...LoL
Drifting is mainly for RWD Cars and they should used a S-Chassis (S13, S14 or S15) as the trainer car instead of an EVO..lol
The Old Japanese dudes at the Fishing Dock are the Pioneers of Drifting etc..... So many "cheesy" things like the scene of the group of cars supposedly drifting through the mountains and there is no Tire Smoke or Tire Squealing and the main girl driving her drifting didn't seem like she drifting at all ...Aww man great stuff!...
In the final race the Mustang does have a Skyline Engine called the RB Series which is a Straight 6cyl.....vs. a 350Z that came stock w/ a V6 Engine called the VQ...They never said what engine the 350Z had I don't think..

    • @thedefinitionisthis
      @thedefinitionisthis Před 2 lety

Even when it was originally released, I thought it kinda unnecessarily got a bum rap. With how insane the franchise has gotten, it is nice to go back to this one. For me, Fast Five is my favorite, and I love the more action-oriented soap-opera it’s become…. however, I totally have a soft spot for Tokyo Drift, and like it the best out of the racing-centric first 3.
