Hansel and Gretel, two children leaving a trail of breadcrumbs to find their way back home.

    • @michaelklaus
      @michaelklaus Před 13 dny +2

So when will Tara watch Hansel and Gretel Witch Hunters?
But well, it is one of the more commonly known of the fairytales collected by the Brothers Grimm. And although there may not be dubs, there are certainly a number of movies made about it.
There is also a song version that is known since somewhat around the year 1900:
The song tells you basically everything most people remember. But it leaves out the initial situation of the siblings. So, in case you can not be bothered to pick up a book or a movie, here you go.
Once upon a time, there was a woodcutter who lived with his wife and children at the edge of the forest. Times were hard, and the family struggled to make ends meet. The wife was a rather cold woman. She persuaded the woodcutter to take their children, Hänsel and Gretel, into the forest with him and leave them to their fate.
But the boy who had overheard their parents talking spent all morning collecting pebbles.
So the father took them into the forest and when the time came he left them with some bread and water and promised he would return when he was done with his work.
At home, the father was struck with the horror of what he had done, but his wife convinced him that it was for the best.
The children waited for their father to return, and when night fell, they realized that their father had broken his promise, and Gretel started to cry bitterly.
But Hänsel dried her tears and said, "Do not worry, little sister; I have collected pebbles and put them out along the way when went into the forest. We will surely find the way home." And in the light of the moon and stars, the pebbles shone brightly, and in the morning hours, the children reached their home, and their father was relived.
But still the family had not enough to eat. So soon after the wife convinced her husband again, it would be for the best if he led their children into the forest and left them to their fate.
Again, Hänsel had overheard his parents talking.
So, for the second time, the woodcutter left the sibling with some bread and water. And again, when night fell he had not returned. But just like the first time, Hänsel had led out a trail of pebbles, and in the light of the moon and the stars, the pebbles shone bright, and they returned home.
Sadly for the siblings, as much as their father was struck with horror and relieved when they came home, his wife convinced him a third time that it would be best if he led them into the forest and left them to their fate.
Hänsel had again overheard his parents. But in the morning, there were no more pebbles left to find. So when the time came and they headed into the forest, he took the last bread he could find and layed out a trail of bread crumbs on their way.
Again their father left them, promising he would return soon. But his time the children didn't believe his promises. Soon after he had left to work alone, they headed back along their trail of breadcrumbs. But after a while, they couldn't find any more crumbs. The birds of the forest had picked them up and swallowed them hole.
So Hänsel and Gretel lost their way, and they ventured all day and all night through the forest.
And only in the morning hours, when they were exhausted and cold, they peeked the most peculiar sight. On a small clearing, there was standing a house made from gingerbread.

I always found this movie to be incredibly underrated. I guess when it came out, a lot of people took exception to the fact that it barely resembles the book it was based on. Especially vexing was Roger Ebert. He slammed this movie specifically for that reason. But I definitely recall him also saying at some other time that he thinks it's unfair to judge a movie based on whether or not it's "faithful" to the source material; he said that a movie should be judged on its own merits.
Anyway, putting aside the title, is "I, Robot" a good movie? I believe so, especially compared to the other "Will Smith Popcorn Movies" of this era. I thought it was relatively thought-provoking (at least compared to M.I.B. and Independence Day), and I appreciated the "noir" vibe to it. (I will say, though, that it really doesn't feel like an Alex Proyas movie aesthetically. He'd previously done "The Crow" and "Dark City." Those two movies *do* feel alike stylistically. "I, Robot," meanwhile, feels like it could've been a totally different director.)

I agree. I think if Will Smith could integrate into a movie world better, the jarring exposition and product placements were removed, Shia was removed. it would stand as a clean tight well plotted story. It totally resembles the Isaac Asimov anthology. I don't know why people keep saying it doesn't. The arc in the book is that [SPOILER] the president of the universe is suspected of being a robot. BUT its an anthology full of different ways the robotic laws are flawed. Some of those stories aren't great. This movie is better than those. Well acted by everyone except Shia and sometimes Will. Key moments were sold though. The characters were clean and purposeful though. I think people felt dissonance from what they expected of Will Smith and Alex Proyas style. They don't really mix well.

The great thing about this reaction was how they could talk about REDACTED without being constantly censored by CZcams. The whole plot of this film revolves around REDACTED and it would be terrible if Reel Rejects was demonetised for discussing this important issue. REDACTED is an important subject and it would be glaringly obvious if any mention of it was redacted. Anyway I love IRobot. CZcams should allow the work 'suicide'

I love the concept of Will’s character mainly hating the robots because, they can’t think or feel like a person they make choices based on calculations which is what saved him vs the little girl, but slowly Sonny changes his mind, and the V.I.K.I reveal loved it made so much sense.

According to Isaac Asimov, "I, Robot" (the book) was the first story in the "Foundation" timeline. So, I like to think that the movie version eventually leads to the Apple TV version of "Foundation."
Here's the timeline in chronological order according to Isaac Asimov's notes:
    I, Robot (1950)
    Caves of Steel (1954)
    The Naked Sun (1957)
    The Robots of Dawn (1983)
    Robots and Empire (1985)
    The Currents of Space (1952)
    The Stars, Like Dust (1951)
    Pebble in the Sky (1950)
    Prelude to Foundation (1988)
    Forward the Foundation (1993)
    Foundation (1951)
    Foundation and Empire (1952)
    Second Foundation (1953)
    Foundation's Edge (1982)
    Foundation and Earth (1986)

As an Asimov fan, this movie came as an unexpectedly creative imagining of the very themes his various robot novels explored. Lanning realizes the only way a robot capable of violating the 3 Laws (VIKI) can be stopped is by another robot capable of violating the 3 Laws (Sonny). The difference is Sonny is taught love and empathy and creativity and emotion, whereas VIKI is unguided and comes to her logical conclusions in her own. There are parallels to Terminator 2 and SkyNet vs the Model 101. In each case, they’re both the same AI with the capacity to learn. There’s a very human lesson here: People cannot escape the need to “teach” (guide, really) a sentient intelligence with emotions to decide to value life, which itself runs the risk of it not always working (as happens with humans trying to teach their own kids and other humans the same things).
