Taking it a step further, Nephi tells the people in 2 Nephi 32 that it is the evil spirit that “teacheth not a man to pray, but teacheth him that he must not pray”. The adversary delights in hampering this communion. He, no doubt, hopes to cut off all of the blessings and benefits that stem from regularly approaching the Lord in humble, sincere prayer. So, what are those benefits? Why pray?

His will is to bring to pass our immortality, eternal life and our greatest joy. Often it is us that have the barrier up with His blessings bouncing off because we did not have the faith to ask for, see, or receive them.

Im so thankful that our Lord is faithful.. And we can rest in him. Yesterday Depressing was trying to swollow me up..I cried out to the Lord and he is faithful he did come to me and I am peaceful again...I am so grateful he saves us out of attacks of the devil..and of wicked humans! Im so thankful I found psalms in song! ❤

Psalm 4: "Listen to me when I invoke you, my defender God" - This psalm is a favorite in the last prayer of the monks (Complete). Talk about love where the Beloved is all ears; that is to say, a crush, a God sensitive to the whispers of the beloved, knows her by heart and before the voice reaches her ears she has already known her all and has only been waiting to receive the voice of her chosen by Him.
I remember the first time I heard this psalm because it was night, in the dark, a good number of monks sang it in a tone called Gregorian, they recited it by heart, that is, they had the words tattooed all in their hearts and the aroma of incense invited to prayer.
I did not know about mystical unions or intimate encounters with God. I entered the sanctuary, prostrated myself, seduced myself and let myself be seduced and since then my life changed.
Psalms 4, 133 and 90 are psalms that speak of the final prayer of the day and are a preparation for the night's rest.

This is true. Great effort is put into separating our relationship with God. Even by big religions. Teaching lies rather than biblical truths. God wants us to come directly to him, just as we are. Pure. Broken. We can pour out our hearts to him in our beds. Scream and cry if we must. He will hear us.

The LORD did not ask for sacrifice, he asked for HESED that is translated as mercy but it means much more than that in Hebrew.
Which Bible version do you sing from?
I (Shane) use a combination of Bible translations, primarily the ESV, KJV/NKJV, NIV, and NASB, to put the lyrics together. I also study the Psalms extensively with commentaries from Boice, Goldingay, Ross, Henry, Spurgeon, Calvin, and others to make sure we are capturing “the essential meaning of every verse.” I do not follow any specific translation word-for-word, though some songs may come somewhat close. I try to balance faithfulness to the literal text with the aesthetic quality of the song.
