- I just want to chop up samples on an MPC, in this case i'm going with a semi Old school MPC, the MPC 4000! Honestly i think the 4k is my favorite, it's hard to explain but.. i've never had a deeper connection with a piece of gear where it really felt as if it was my brain as hardware.
Another huge shout-out this time to the Video Sponsor Tracklib! Get 15 records from Tracklib to sample from for free with this link - www.tracklib.com/?code=rickyt...
and incase you wanted to also sample the same tracks i used in the video they're both right here: www.tracklib.com/song/i-got-t... | www.tracklib.com/song/shinobi...

Honestly Ricky, I'm not a house guy, I watch you because you're entertaining and have great insight into music gear and production in general, but this, this shit got me freakin' MOVIN bro
yes... finally.. ive been waiting for this for a long time.. i just want ricky making music.. old house style.. just vibing videos
16:08: Greatest moment in History of Ricky Tinez' videos! Loving it and giving such a good vibe! Thank you once again for your knowledge and power and for sharing those moments! ❤👍
Second thought: Sounds like the music for a movie with Bill Murray showing him in all his melancholic greatness just walking though the streets.
Henrik I appreciate you! Thanks for the kind words
Every feature on the MPC 4000 seems to be just about 250 clicks away... But man, that muscle memory! Dope house track, Ricky! ❤️
Hahahahaha it totally is. But it’s ENDLESS
Don't get a 500 then lol
i got my Masters in Navigating MPC menus 😂
Why I hate my MPC: I have to look at the screen to find samples & projects. I can do everything else from muscle memory!
That’s actually entering the edits, not accessing the features. I think the furthest deep it gets is three clicks to get to inputting commands, ie, selecting loop points, tuning filters, etc.
The 4k has exceptionally accessible features, actually. Dedicated buttons for each command page, dedicated number pad, softkeys for the sections of each page…you’ve got it backwards, my guy.
Me: I never use my MPC, might sell it. [watches this video], god I love my MPC, I’d never sell it
Me: I don't see reason why to use MPC. Also me watching this video: I need one.
Man, the transformations you do from source to track are always mind blowing! Sometimes I'm like 'so where is this going...' and it always ends up being pure vibes
More MPC 4k videos!!!
Got my start with the 4k using your vidoes as tutorials and every day i spend with this thing i get deeper...
Such an inspiring and complex piece of hardware that isnt getting too much love these days on youtube.
Sick track! I learn so much just watching how different people freak the 4k.
Much Love from new york :)
I really like the authenticity of this video. I’m sure plenty of people can empathise with the process you’ve taken us through. Thank you for showing the real process.
You should do a video comparing your MPCs! I know you’ve got a bunch of em and I’d be interested in seeing your take on what the differences between them are!
+1
I think it'd be really interesting to see you (as someone who's lived with many iterations of the mpc) compare what the process is like on the Mpc software and controller vs. The hardware MPCs
as someone's who's never even seen an MPC IRL but is quite interested in getting into sampling I would greatly appreciate this
Check out Marlow Digs' channel if you like MPC videos. Ricky should check him out too ❤
+1
I really enjoy seeing how you make music and hearing you talk about it. Thank you for this vid!
Dude, I got into your videos because of the PO's, but they are so well-rounded and nice to watch that I can't get enough. Good job, keep it up!
My goodness, this is the type of content that makes me want to run home and make music. Thank you
Seriously vibin' at the end, really cool stuff. My production habits are nothing at all like yours but it's always so refreshing to watch you do electronic dance music from an entirely different perspective and philosophy. Been watching for a while now and have learned so many other ways of thinking about music and you've helped me jump outside the box on some things. Looking forward to the next as always.
I love watching those moments of pure discovery and creative breakthroughs Ricky has. Such a genuine dude in a disingenuous world.
Duuuuuuuuuude that has me rocking out! Love your work Brother!❤
I’m here for it! Loving the process. Wish the 4000/5000 weren’t so rare and overpriced on the aftermarket 😩
try some pawn shops..I do that here in NYC,and have filled up my studio from Craigslist and pawn shops..I JUST got an Alesis synth for $100,and it's in great condition..
your old videos keep coming up in my algo and inspiring me! Cheers man. Gonna go shred some tracklib samples on my sp404
Like the energy of these vibes bredren👍🏾
Dope sample picks
Never skipping a video again. Admitting to myself I have no idea what to expect and it’s perfectly satisfying to watch you explore sounds and rhythms no matter what the subject or gear
Oh man... I'm a classical trained pianist coming from totally different side of music but because of YOU and the way you're doing all that you're doing I just wanna reset myself and follow your creative musical world. Thank you for being such an inspiration, Ricky! 🎧🔥
Hey I recently discovered your content in depth, been a follower for a while but only just had a chance to trawl and watch. Love your delivery and style man. And I've learned heaps! Thank you for what you do!
i just got one today. i had no idea how to use it. your videos are the best. very clear and motivating. thank you!
I agree... nothing feels quite like the MPC4k, and you have illustrated that VERY WELL in this video! Respect.
Love the MPC Videos! Ready for the next compact creations! Tracklib sounds like everything I wanted splice to be LOL
These beats are absolutely insane!
AS A HUGE HUGE HUGE HUGE FAN OF YOUR VCF STUFF, MAAAN THIS VIDEO WAS EVERYTHING. THANK YOU RICKY!
Watching this reminded me of how quick chopping and re-ordering house samples was on my MPC One. Time to revisit this again. 👍. Awesome videos, keep up the great work.
what chance! i was just thinking of your MPC videos and here's a brand new one!
You are an absolute wizards with samples man
MPC3000LE & MPC4000 owner here! Love 'em both! 🤘🏽😎
Dope video, love the workflow
the 4k is such a beast. Awesome video.
Am I the only one who wants you to be my friend and have awesome Hardware Synth jams.
Hello mate, you doing an amazing job, a pleasure to watch your videos 💪 Congratulations and thank you 🙏 ✌️
Dude you are so in sync with that machine!
dope video my friend :) love your genuine excitement
edit: this track BANGS
God damn this was a damn good video. Love the final groove
Something nice and chill to come home from my retail hell shift.
The whole time you were chopping the sample my head was nodding in anticipation 😄
Edit: i forgot you said "House" up there, so i was expecting madlib to come out of those samples. Then you turned the car and i loved it😄 I'm definitely checking out Tracklib rn
Ricky, I normally come here to learn some turbo nerd stuff I can add to my flow, but on this one it just went out the window watching you have fun. I think we've all had that grin in the studio at one time or another, rolling right there with you on this groove. Please do something with it.
This just blew my mind away.
Seriously, it has me questioning my choices in life 😃
Ricky made a brief mention of it but I'd definitely recommend his VCF project, bought a tape and have been loving it.
Pure chill on a Saturday evening, that part "Getting Pitch Drunk" - ¡Gracias señor Martinez! ;-)
Dude please release that first song. Best thing I’ve heard in a while
Dopest music ever played on this channel!!!
Definitely the magic in threes track!!! 🔥 🔥 🔥
Your amazing. You watch Ricky to know what its like to use a device you know and are used to, and how that can be. I learn something every time I watch one of your videos, thank you for your inspiration and teaching.
Thank you Infinity Cycle!! You’re very much appreciated around here
Great concept!
I totally see myself dancing the night away at the after (pandemic) party. Great enthusiastic video as ever! Thx
That 4k was special ! had that sound
dope Ideas Rick!!! 🔥🔥🔥
You make it look to easy my man! Great job 👏 though for real 💫 it’s amazing how much production work you can do with a good mpc and someone’s who beast on it! Cheers 🍻 hope to be as good 👍 one day 😁
This is SO Fire.
BRAVO !!! Dope video !
MPC lord strikes again! Great work here
Dude this is so much it!
That was a great session!
A magician at work.
Respect brother
That second beat is so dope
Great Video again!! I am happy that I didn't sold my MPC4000 :-)
We need this track in full version!
Thanks Ricky!
Man, impressive we can see you tamed the beast damn well
I look forward to making a video about slicing on the Force. It's fucking incredible.
PS your groove sounds great!
Mad tight!!
Every single time with this intro, I want to break out the chemex.
EVERYTIME!
You are so right about the "free" thing....Everyone should be compensated, and free actually cheapens the process....Great video as always :-)
4000 is so nice in all ways!
I popped into tracklib with that 9th wonder/Bob James push and made a beat with an Impeach the President groove. Was a lot of fun! I've wavered on whether or not to keep it as most of my music doesn't lean into samples, but after getting a digitakt, I might keep it and try to get into this workflow!
I need to stop being a wasteman and get my MPC1000 on the go. I dont wanna come off furlough lol. Big up to Ricky with another sick video.
Dope man
Thanks that was lit.
super dope
The MPC4000 is hands down THE BEST MPC. The audio quality and filter selection blows away every other MPC.
Yeah the 4k also is my go to mpc.
Nice one! If you’ve any interest, I’d love to see a comparison + pros/cons between the Digitakt and your MPC 1K since you’ve used both a lot.
Such a good video. Would you consider making a video on the MC303? I saw you had one in your studio tour video, and after buying one recently I'd love to see you workflow with it :)
That moment when you accidentally play something and it’s totally sick! Feeling it :D
Hey dude nice video. Please could I suggest a video about how you do you sample slicing? Like how to set you points, how many slices, determining length, how to get it to mix with other elements of your track and keeping in time. Is playing the sample per slice possible to do on the octatrack if you make 16 slices?
8:07, when the future funk Ricky Tinez suddenly kicks in!
Dope! On the second sample you could have sampled the left and right channels separately to get the guitar and Rhodes separated. Might have given you a few more options.
Hey Ricky, random inquiry: what keyboard do you use for your computer? Great video as always!
MEGA DOPE
great beat.
so dope
16:49 is the pitch. Vibes of London house music from the 90`s - Ministry Of Sound kind of track :)
20:27 "sucker, get out of here" 😂
Hell Yeah!!
8:35 "I'm so juiced right now. It's hot as hell in here, but I am DOWN." - Ricky Tinez. Words to live by lol
This Slaps
0:14 you know you've made a great instrument purchase when it comes with a place to rest your elbows!
🔥🔥🔥
This is a great lesson in sample chopping in general!
16:15 that reaction is gold lmaooo
This. Is. It.
Are you thinking about making anymore tutorials one the 4k? I just got one gifted to me and it's my first piece of hardware ever, I am so lost on where to even start. Something like making your first beat from start to end. Could be a good series tbh there is not much out there for this machine on youtube. your videos are so well made and easy to follow could be great!
I have no idea what's happening but it sounds cool 😎
So. Damn. Good
Amazing track in the end Ricky but it’s criminal you never sampled more of those horns 😂
i mean.. at some point i basically just take the WHOLE song hahaha. It was all so good
As a recent 1k owner, I totally get why people loveeeee these things.
