Join us on a journey through Daft Punk's first two albums as we analyze the iconic French House duo's beats. And we're not simply taking the original samples - we're rebuilding the rhythms from scratch to understand what made them tick in the first place! We also do a short cover of each song so you can hear the drums in context :)
Extra special thanks to / @jaelights for your feedback on the mixes!

Everything about this is great - the production value, the humor, and the easy to follow teaching style are all top notch.
you summarized it nicely. perfect channel.
Truly
Ones can only appreciate the effort you two put in this video 👏
Thank you so much :)
If only your baker had put as much work into his baguette as you did in just one beat pattern... that bread looks pretty disgusting! Bisous from Paris!
@@andreasvogel5186 - because it’s from Denmark
No thanks
I am like one minute in and already feeling like “this is why CZcams was invented….” Thanks so much for these videos ❤
My father is a great daftpunk fan and he loves the first albuns. This video made us happy, so thanks man!
Glad you two enjoyed it :)
My dad is a "no one is a musician because nobody is playing the guitar" kinda guy :(
Ugh... This makes me feel old, and also sad. You youngin's don't really get any seminal sounds anymore by actual artists. Now it's all algorithms or something produced in Switzerland for the masses. Much less creative freedom!
@@dc4825let’s put you on a computer with ableton and see what you can do. bet you couldn’t even turn on the ALgOrIthM, whatever that is. You can’t do a quarter of what daft punk did, let alone half. also, traditional artists still exist, grandpa.
Man that piano part in Aerodynamic is soo good
I have a strong feel that piano parts and a lot of harmonies was predominantly written by Chilly Gonzales, so if you’d like some sorta similar feel I’d check his work he’s also a really funny guy.
as a french producer i can confirm that the french house kitchen section is exactly what i do daily
So glad we weren't that far off 😁
Miss Pikant absolutely slayed on this video. A masterclass in Daft Punk and one of the best produced music instruction videos on all of CZcams. A tremendous accomplishment. Magnifique!
She goes by The Apprentice 😊 and yes!
I agree, The Intern outdid herself on this one :)
I was wondering about the nail varnish :-)
I agree, this channel needs so much more exposure, so many people would be riveted to these videos if they could find them. Hope the CZcams algorithm does its work.
1:20 remember friends: always keep in mind that a lot of the "musical geniuses" we know and love come from wealthy families and have connections already. they had the ability to not only realize their genius but show others. many don't get this opportunity ever!
There's truth to that, just look at Mozart :)
Taylor Swifts parents were loaded. Her father spent $130,000 buying shares in her first record label, as well as driving her all over the country.
also if music is your parents' job, they can't tell you music isn't a job so callously
Would that make it impossible to have a career in music?
As someone who wants to make EDM and someday play at major festivals, would that be impossible unless I had some kind of massive cash flow?
@@Roasty420 It's still very possible to have a career in music but your name may not be as marquee as you're expecting it to be. You may still need a job on the side, in or out of music. But you can still have a nice following and earnings. Not all of us can have banker parents that fly us in and out of Nashville for vocal coaching and studio time in our teens, eh?
As someone who has actually tried to get on Anjunabeats myself: keep making music because you like doing so, and keep at it because it will take years to get recognized. Don't shy away from those supporting you now just because you think a bigger, "better" crowd is on the horizon. Keep your eye on where you want to go but don't lose sight of the road right at your feet. And nobody expects to go viral so don't feel bad if you don't.
Worth the wait. Staggering work. If only I'd had access to this kind of education when I was young, delivered tastefully and stylishly, with charm and humour. Bravo.
Thank you so much :)
As a daft punk fan, this is the best video i've seen ever from the guys. Absolutely in love with the video dynamic, the styling, and all of the details that you put in. Keep going!
Thanks so much :) :)
I could listen for hours and hours of daft punk’s technical/musical analysis.
Thank you for this 🤝
This... This is art. This channel is everything is right in the world😫
Thank you Captain Pikant♥
I think I've said it before, and I'll say it again: you are an amazing teacher. This content is awesome.
Da Funk is definitely one of my all time favourite tracks (I remember the music video so well, that poor dog). The fact that it was what Daft Punk came out of the gates with is something else. The two of you are incredibly talented to do this. Not only the extreme dissecting of the tracks to uncover the elements and patterns but also the flawless playing of the musical elements! Hats off.
Discovery is a real masterpiece… years later it’s absolutely modern. That’s interesting, your reproductions of homework are really good, but on discovery, it sounds very different from the original. The mastering was also really impressive…
If this videos would have been available when I was 17 and just getting into digital production... Thanks a lot Captain Pikant! You guys are a treasure in this world ❤️
I absolutely have tears of joy in my eyes. Daft punk came into my life at exactly the right time, so long ago. I cannot thank you enough, Captain and the Intern. ❤️
Hi Michael, we're really glad you liked it :) Daft Punk also has a very special place in my heart!
Yes, my first encounter with Daft Punk was also Around the World and I can clearly remember as I stood in the room, mesmerized, staring at the screen and couldn't believe what I saw. It was amazing and I quickly learned the bands name with it. You recreated the songs but I still don't know what makes them good. They are just good. Still good after all these years.
This is the most precise, well-crafted, talentfully played and shot music channel I've ever seen. That bread bit was absolutely genius.
Sometimes I think about how long these must take to write and produce. But mostly I just watch and listen in awe. Brilliant 🙌🏼
Now think about how long the music took to conceive and execute
This is a masterpiece. I adore the humor and the videography, but most of all how you can break the tracks down to the point they feel almost obvious without diminishing the appreciation for the complexity and genius it took to compose them. Also, that sandwich looked (and sounded) delicious!
Great stuff!!!
Thanks Florian :)
22:22 is absolutely fantastic...
I've had a terrible day in work, and this makes me feel better ♥
10:21 is insane. How they manage to loop the simplest sounds and make it sound awesome
Revolution 909 is a classic, one of my favorites. Glad to see you covered it
Another outstanding production from the best hands on CZcams.
So well done and informative, that I'll be signing up to your Patreon to help keep this awesome channel going.
Thanks so much, we really appreciate your support :)
You are like a tag team that solves the magic tricks of magicians! Fantastic value!
oh hell yeah, a 34 minute video about my two favourite things - drum patterns AND DAFT PUNK? y'all have hit it out of the park and have become one of my favourite channels in the music sphere, i wait for each new video in eager curiosity! keep it up!
Thanks for your kind words! :)
The sheer effort and incredible competence is overwhelming. I will now rewatch this 12-15 times and hope my mouth is closing and I can start to take in the details...
Wow I love how much you cared about the details, it is one of the things that makes their music so great! Thanks so much for your work and for sharing some of Daft Punks secrets
Absolutely outstanding. So worth the wait. As always you hit it out of the park, and I Love the Daft Punk beat bunny at the end, icing on the cake. Way to go you two!! Excellent. Can’t wait for the next one. ❤❤❤
Once in a great while a video is so well done, so much on another level, that it literally brings me to tears. Your videos in general are easily among the best out there in multiple ways…but this was just next level…just wow. (Also, as a Hapax owner I really liked seeing it so prominently used. :) Can’t wait for part two!
Literally one of my favourite videos on the internet
Instant sub, such production!! Captivating start to finish and really did the source material justice 👍👍👍
This is such a great channel. I love the high production quality. I love that I learn things.
That was a blessing to watch. Keep it up. And i´m really looking forward to part 2.
I just cannot get over the level of production in these videos, it blows my mind
dude this content is fucking next level. The production, the teachings, the graphics, the vo... incredible!
Man that was incredible. You really put in some work. Can't wait for part two.
i always have high expectations for your videos and they always go beyond. good job as always, i learned a trick or two for my tr6s so thank you
This is an outstanding tutorial. Great humor, great clarity, great timing.. I love everything about this video
This is so high quality, I'm amazed. Daft Punk is great, so are you ❤
Woooowww.. This is super impressive the amount of dedication and attention to detail is phenomenal
Was ridiculously excited to see this on my homepage this morning! Thanks for another incredible video like always
What a ride! Every bit of effort and creativity is on show here. And I couldn’t be happier that one of my favorite bands got the beatbunny deluxe treatment. Much love as always
Hi filmhaltig, glad you enjoyed it! :) :)
Amazing channel, I'm lapping up all your very high quality videos. Many thanks for all the hard work producing these! Best wishes from Scotland
This is.. INSANELY GOOD holy moly. As someone who just started learning about producing music this is incredibly inspiring. Well done.
What an amazing sense of colors and space - I’m gonna show this to my gf who’s a graphical designer, she’s gonna love it. Oh and also the whole sampling is awe inspiring
Revolution 909 was my first time I ever heard Daft Punk. HMC would always play it in his sets in the late 90s.
'In the toilet of a disco' is exactly what I hear, even today.
Soooo good!! Thank you so much for this! I have the same thoughts and feelings on the Daft Punk repertoire. The analysis and recreation is amazing! They were pioneers and you are very skilled to capture the essence!! ❤
This is the only channel I’ve ever watched all the videos on. I could easily consume 2-3x as many.
I’ve subscribed to like 3 channels in my whole life and this is now one of them! Very cool!
I could cry watching this... Thank you for making my day
Looking forward to this!
What an underrated channel. Soon your hard effort will greatly pay off, this content blew me away!!!
This channel is insanely good. The production and effort is off the charts. May I suggest a video theme? I think it would be pretty could a video about Aphex Twin or a video of how about get into Synths and drums machines, a overall explanation on how to start doing eletronic music it would be great
Thank you! Those are very good suggestions ;)
This is so good, it's a love letter to Daft Punk. Pace yourself.
great video, thank you very much! As someone who has been quite deep into the house and techno scene since the early 90s, I can only underline what an important album "Homework" was. Even though "Around the World" was a pretty mainstream track, the rest of the album is completely unknown to most people - the tracks on this record were simply too experimental and crazy. In the scene, however, "Homework" was a milestone, an earthquake, a comet impact! The tracks were incredibly clean and high-quality production for the time, they were creative, excellently composed and extremely danceable and catchy. One of the best and most important albums in the history of electronic music - and what's more, it's also the first album by the two of them. After that everything just sounded different - every producer of electronic music suddenly valued the quality of the production. Previously this was only optional, as long as it at least made a good bang. To this day, tracks like "Rock'n'Roll" are absolutely banger and timelessly beautiful. When DaftPunk went mainstream with their second album, they were actually dead to the "real" techno scene. No matter how elaborately "Discovery" was produced, real techoheads found this music too silly. But for “Homework,” DaftPunk will always be loved and deeply respected.
Loved Aerodynamic
Dude I always loved daft punk but thank you so much for breaking it down like this! Now it feels even more genious!
First time watching a video from this channel and I'm amazed by the quality and attention to detail. Discovery is very important to me as well. This album along with Gorillaz' self-titled were the first time that I really got into specific artists instead of just listening to what was playing on the radio
I just love what you two bring to life on this channel. You fill me with inspiration, nostalgia and happiness! Thank you so very much!!!
Thanks so much for your kind words, that makes us really happy :) :)
Oh my god, that kitchen section was INSPIRED
Oh my goodness, this is soooo good I dont know where to start from!
(One could say "I dont know what to do, about this VIDEO and you" 😅)
Technically fascinating, supremely edited, fun as well!
The HBFS part was almost orgasmic, I was praying you carried on with the song and you actually did, like you had read my mind!
Wonderful!
Wearing my red pullover and commenting with an even heavier german accent than usual: wunderbar! Wirklich absolut großartig! Rundherum dermaßen gut gelungene Videos findet man im CZcams-Synthversium extrem selten.
I literally had goosebumps hearing that rendition of Digital Love, that's magic, thank you soo much
Oh man! Once again you have done some amazing things!❤
Absolutely astonishing - love that. Even the ad, wow. Very passionate.
Incredible work as always. Love this
As always, a brilliant video. It's astonishing just how good you are at reverse engineering all these tracks.
This channel is pure joy.
Dude, your videos are awesome! Educative, funny and visually superb.
You guys have done a phenomenal job at this!! everything is well polished, from sounds to visuals and the presentation. can't wait for more.
13:20 - personal mark to remember a trick
Such a great video! Thanks for putting so much into it. It shows.
Same here with “Around the World” 😂😂😂
Also my favorite song is Veridis Quo. Sounds like you’re flying on the back of an Eagle through space and time.
This is one of my favs so far! This was pulled off beautifully.
Fantastic Video! (as always ;)
The end was pretty adorable lol
Cant wait for part 2!
The Aerodynamic beat is so gadhdamn good! Good job, guys!
It's great watching people that know what they're doing
This is really really amazing analysis.
If I may, it just seems that there is simply one odd note on the around the world lead synth part. The rest is way above any expectations I could have. This is just amazing! Congrats!
Thanks! Yes we changed up the songs quite a bit ;)
I love your videos guys, such a unique style of content!! Keep it up
Discovered your channel today, instant subscription, congrats for the wonderful job. Thanks!
That was a great video and impressive to see how you analyzed and built the songs of Daft Punk! Very impressive how accurate and informative you give it back! Chapeau!
That was really a piece of art, and I mean REALLY!
Production effort is just through the roof! Amazing vid 👌🏾👌🏾👌🏾👌🏾👌🏾👌🏾👌🏾👌🏾👌🏾 Thoroughly enjoyed it🎉
incredible! so glad you made this. i love it
Magic. Looking forward to more in 2024.
Fantastic job, guys! 👏👏👏
for the past month, once in a while, I am thinking when Captain will release the next video.
Today is a treat for me. I love daft punk and the quality of the video is totally worth the treat. Thank you!
Also i am proud to be patron behind this awesome video. (Maybe I need to upgrade my tier 😁)
Wonderfull video and production!
Absolutely brilliant !! 🙌
Amazing work!
I'm speechless. Amazing! Simply amazing!
You should do a video about Bangalter's separate works with his own label called "Roule." Homem-Christo also did the same thing with his label "Crydamoure." Both labels are the very definition of french house music.
I loved this! Well done on everything!
Exceptional. So much effort and detail.
What a great video!!, you guys keep getting better and better! Thanks for doing this type of content!! 🤖
Amazing work, thanx for this.
