  • We built cedar shutters for the front of our house to replace those faded green plastic/vinyl ones. Building them was way cheaper than buying them, and we love the look. We hope you'll like the video, subscribe to the channel, and join us in our journey. Thanks for watching!

Had same idea aftr seeing prices. But did not think of kiln dried so waiting on pressure treated wood to cure. and getting some warping. But got wood fo do two windows for $80. Just wish I had all those wood tools and router gives is a finished look. Not sure how even I can get it wih a hand sander. I always seem to run into problems when I get into these things.

Shutters turned out good! Do you remember what color stain/brand you used?

Thanks so much! I used a Behr stain and sealer, and the color is Cordovan brown. It’s held up well. I’d make sure and apply the 3 coats that they recommend.

nice custom shutters. too bad you didn't put hinges and hardware to make them fully functional.

After watching your video, my husband built 5 sets of these. I love them. Now we’re just down to trying to decide on stain. I love the color you used. I notice about a month ago you said they were starting to fade slightly. Any thoughts now on preventing that issue so quickly? I’d like to add…your humor was great! 😂

@@DIYWoodntYou I don’t have FB but my husband did join your group. We will post pics of the shutters as soon as we get them finished. We made the shutters with pine 1x4’s and still in a dilemma about the stain color and how it’s looking on the pine. 🤔. Your humor might not reach all, I’m afraid, but we get it! 😂🤣😂🤣. Keep it up! Thanks for your response!

Should you have put some small space between the boards to accommodate expansion? How have they held up to the weather?

I’m doing the same thing to my house. Yours turned out amazing!! I have a question tho. The sun rises and sets at the from of my house so the shutters gets direct sun light all day. Any suggestions on keeping them protected so it doesn’t fade real bad in a year or so?

Great job on the shutters. What was the Color you chose?

Would have been nice if you would have made them the size of the window frame and not the glass like the builder did. Maybe next time!

You really should have put the runner boards closer to the edge of the bord rule of thumb use the board that you are using to space the difference from the top and bottom of each .. otherwise your boards will curl at each end

Thanks for the info. It’s been I guess about 5 or so years since I put the shutters up, and they haven’t curled at all. I think gluing the edged helps. The only wear that I’m noticing is the sun damage to the finish, which I would expect.
