    Thanks for your honest review of these incredible machines. As the owner of a manual 991.2 I was seriously considering the 992. But after this review I will be keeping it, most likely forever. As an added plus, I think it is without a doubt the best looking of all generations of GT3. Thanks again! 👏👏

    Thank you for this excellent review. I have a 991.2 GT3 with manual transmission, and an allocation for a 992. If I went forward I’d trade the 991.2 because of garage space limitations. Your review was extremely helpful in finalizing my decision. I was really thinking of going with the 992 for the first half of your review until you got to...sound...it is “quiet below 6K rpms, and docile.” (Paraphrased) Furthermore, you stated the other two were more fun at “normal” speeds. And you commented that this makes the 992 a better car to live with. But the point of a GT3 is to take it out for fun. It is a toy. Given traffic congestion etc., the reality is you are spending most of your driving time on roads below 6K rpms...it is only occasionally on back country roads you can play in the upper rev ranges given the corresponding speeds those revs generate.
    I’ll be keeping my 991.2. Thanks for your insights. Given the rarity of these cars it isn’t possible for me to drive a 992 before making my decision.

      I just took delivery in the US and I can say that the car is well over 90dB in the driver seat at 5k RPM with some load (up hill) and Sport Exhaust enabled. It is far louder than I expected and at least twice as loud as my 992 C2 and I haven't even gone about 6k RPMs. I find this car is a lot more fun and usable at the lower speeds than reviewers lead me to believe. I had to use launch control to get this level noise and enjoyment out of the Carrera but just getting up to the speed limit in the 992 is a blast. (I have the 6MT.)

      Thanks. I didn't include the 4.0 in this review as we were comparing GT3 models. The RS versions tend to be lighter and more track focused and this was a road review. However there is a lot of the DNA found in my 4.0 from the green car we tested, hence why I liked it so much. Unfortunately it does have a slightly heavy clutch so you wouldn't want to be stuck in traffic with it.

      Me too, for me the 997 gt3 retains the core values of a 911. Historically 911s were never really lifestyle cars as they are now, far to uncompromising for that, and thats what makes a 911 special. If it feels just like another car when cruising - which is what we mostly do, then for me its lost the ‘mojo’. having just sold my 2.4S 1973 911, and then hopping into a 991 gt3 it felt like a completely different car, awesome for sure but big and refined, the drive in the 997.1 GT3 (RS) , felt oh so familiar, raw a little uncompromising and just a bit more special.

  • @SS-oj4en
    @SS-oj4en Před 2 lety +4

    Great to see all the cars together the 992 is as you say is the best looking GT3 yet! Arguably a better road car and a better track car. So the consensus is that if you can get one why wouldn’t you.
    Sure the 991.2 is a great car and all you need but if you could get the 992, for the price difference i think you definitely would.
    The 997 is a much older car now one that is not really suitable for daily duties or touring. Its pluses are that its small in feel and more analog.
    My conclusion If you could only have one and could afford any I would be buying the 992.
    The 992 styling inside is a step change the outside styling is as you say as good as any supercar the engine is improved the suspension / steering again a step change.
    Note: I have owned 996 and 997 GT3’s and have spent time in the 991.2. They are all great cars

    • @888mf4
      @888mf4  Před 2 lety

      The 992 GT3 has better suspension set up and 50% more downforce than the 991.2 GT3, therefore it will be a lot faster on a race track. However on the road you won't ever get close to the limits of either car. That said, you do feel the 992 GT3 has much better turn in but that doesn't necessarily make it a more exciting car to drive on the road!!

      The same goes though even compared to the 997. In the real world on your favourite b-road the gap by the end of that road marginal, as you can only push so far. But as with every generation Porsche surprisingly make leaps forward and the performance difference is evident, especially on track.

    Great review! Please though, no more saying suede, it’s Alcantara. One is a natural product the other synthetic 😉
    I don’t think the 997 GT3 really suffers on the power front, just needs more effort to make it work and will still keep with most cars on a twisty road. On track it becomes a factor, but not on the street. Mine will happily still do over 200mph, so it’s not lacking in out and out speed 😬

      Thanks for the positive feedback. Coincidentally I am moving to Montreal at the end of the year or early next year. In respect to your question, I haven't driven a 992 GT3 PDK yet but if it's anywhere near as good as the PDK gearbox in the GT4 then I would recommend it in the GT3 Touring. You don't want a manual box if you're sitting in traffic. If you can order PTS then choose Jet Green Metallic or Viola HK.

      The power output is fairly similar in the 991.2 GT3 and 992 GT3 so hard to tell unless you are on a race track. The extra downforce in the 992 GT3 would certainly help it to lap a lot quicker than the older model, combined with the better suspension set up.

    4:12 I disagree. Those fuzzy wheels get nasty. Lets face it we dont all keep our hands as clean as they would have to be on a regular basis for that wheel to maintain its nap. Oh but i must clean it?! Ok have you done that? Its not easy. Sure i could use gloves every time but its silly. I dunno give me a traditional leather wheel. I love the alcantara everywhere else. Just not on my touch point.

    • @888mf4
      @888mf4  Před 2 lety

      Each to their own. It doesn't cost a lot to re-trim an alcantara steering wheel and you can even keep them fresh with a little TLC.

      For a proper drive out I’ll take an Alcantara wheel every time. It feels so much more tactile and feels like you have more contact somehow. Wouldn’t have it any other way on mine.

    Most of your reviews have same conclusions, old is better . Old Spyder is better , old seats better, old GT3 better.
    Porsche would not spend millions to make new product worse than old. Most shocking review was Spyder review , you say that regular suspension is more bouncy and fun that new 718 Spyder suspension from GT3 ☹️
    Other than that, cool video of 3 cars together.

    • @888mf4
      @888mf4  Před 2 lety

      The 981 Spyder is a great car, one which I owned for over a year. The sound is much louder than the 718 Spyder and this is a well known fact, hence people are going to JCR for aftermarket exhausts. In my review of the 718 Spyder I said that the turn in was better but that it needed an aftermarket exhaust. The problem with aftermarket parts is that they can affect your warranty. The 992 GT3 is a better car than the 997 GT3 and 991.2 GT3 but it is a very different car to either of the older models. It all depends on what you want from a car. Remember that Porsche have to work within regulations and hence they have fitted particulate filters.

      Every new iteration Porsche release of a model is far superior in terms of performance, build, refinement to the previous ones. However, does that make it more entertaining or engaging? Well that is the beauty of opinions. 😉
      The 997 GT3 appealed more to me than more modern metal and is why I bought one over a 991 GT3 and 981 GT4 at the time.

      Agreed Spyder Man. Where's all the comments about the 'tall gearing' with the GT3s? Assume like the GT4/Spyder, you are doing over the speed limit in 2nd gear at the redline...yet nobody comments about it unless it's the GT4/Spyder. Go figure.

    • @gam88a
      @gam88a Před 2 lety +1

      @@randomhawks3232 that’s because people have short memories. When the 981 GT4 came out the 991 GT3 of the era had PDK only, and journalists simply ignored what came before and had to find fault. My 997 GT3 has extremely long gearing but there were no reviews marking it down and saying it was terrible at the time. I frequently bring this up when hearing on the GT4 is bitched about and then strangely the conversation falls silent! 🤦🏻‍♂️
      I had no issue at all in the GT4’s I’ve driven and saw them as the more old school of the modern GT products.

    I don't care about HP, handling, price, keep going, what I fear is a dependable engine. Between cam bearing failures in one engine family, cams wiped with another stab at an engine design, every time I try to get in one of these, it's one nagging thing after the other. Where is the bulletproof engine family? You don't hear the vette engines having these many problems. Never met a corner I didn't like, but YEAR killing me, Larry
