Military Aviation History recent ally traveled to berlin and went to this museum sadly hanger seven was closed
hello man, ( following your content for some time- solid work) being a lazy bastard I'm giving this a shot. I remember here ( here here or YT here) that JU 87 stuka was obsolete by the War, but was all they had, how far was the replacement plane along? and, in short, what specs was he planned to have that put him over je 87?
Now I don't believe that i will get more of an anwser than- will touch that topic in my lifetime or a link to something somewhere.
the short specs would be- faster XX knots, range longer for XXX km, bomb load same or improved, more agile? if set upon by a passing fighter than je 87. not that I'm telling what relevant specs but what by hearing about planes i assume would be worked upon
Quick question I just found your channel recently. And watch the video on assembly ships my question the B17 assembly ships did they go back after the formation was assembled. I dont think you mentioned that
Danke Bismark !!! I do love the whole family of Fw 190... I got a A-8/r2 in 1:48 but there are so many ones I do NEED TO DO: A-6, A-7, DORA-9 A-4, A-3 ,A-5 TA152C.....all are very interesting ones at the time of studying them and build them.
Wow this one looks like it is brand new and just rolled out of the factory.
Restored to pristine condition :)
If I may say it looks a bit too new but it has been done an excellent job..👍👍
+slowerthinker I believe it a combination of a new Flugwerk replica #99007 and parts from the wreckage of Fw-190A-8 W.Nr. 682060 "Rote 5" JG3 shot down on 17-Dec-1944 over Cologne. They are still building D-9 for display at Gatow using parts of a Flugwerk and parts from wreckage pulled out of Lake Schwerin.
@@FiveCentsPlease stimmt das wirklich?
Well, interestingly, it would in fact have looked a lot more simple coming right out of the factory. Camo patterns were only applied, once the aircraft arrived in the field, I believe.
Make sure nobody put any sand in the fuel tank. (Reference to your 162 Training Story)
I'll post a 24/7 guard
My Dad told a story of a preacher they caught at the Allison plant in Indianapolis putting sand in crankcases, never seen again.
Must have been a Quaker....
I love your war thunder videos
Wonderful state of preservation/restoration
Superb job!
definitely !
Many instances of that rear radio compartment being used to stow a mechanic, fellow pilot, or on occasion, civilian evacuees.
a lot of that kind situations happened during East Front retreat - i've read about it in german pilots diaries :)
@@jurijbaboon Yes, the Courland pocket is where civilians were evacuated.
Johanne Steinhoff mentioned the use in his book The Straits Of Messina
There usually is an armored battery box back there. FW-190 was unique because it was the first all electric airplane, I believe. No heavy and vulnerable hydraulics (xcept brakes) or pneumatic systems. Therefore one shot couldn't take out all the systems.
@@fazole I remember hearing a story about when Beechcraft or Cessna went to file some patents in the mid 60s early 70s, only to find out Focke Wulf had patented the tech 30 years before. I believe it was that automated control system that controlled the settings.
Interesting that you did this one when "Greg's Airplanes and Automobiles" just started a serie on the FW190. As a engineering nerd and history enthusiast I like that you complement each other. Thank you for a lot of good youtube clips.
Henge Greg’s channel is an absolute gem, I would urge anyone interested in ww2 aviation (or just aviation in general) to check out his channel. Particularly those who are relatively technically literate.
I was in the February 2020 chat as Greg debuted the FW-190 Design video (part 1) and Bismarck was one of the participants in the chat, as pointed out by Greg and many others. I'm hoping for a collaboration.
These history guys on You Tube put to shame the so-called "History Channel" or "Military Channel". Another reason I've not owned a television for over 5 years now. Thee guys are doing a better job and without any commercial interruptions.
“Dogfights” had actual
pilot filmed interviews. Although the voice over occasionally tried to put words into their mouths, with one occasion for which I will do a video about, it is still priceless added value compared to rehashing older sources. In this domain combat accounts is the only real primary source I trust (see my channel for why), and they all say the complete opposite of the current dogma. Notably they show that turnfigthing did not die in WWII: It was assumed dead in the 1930s, and was reborn when actual
fighting happened, only to immediately die again in the jet age, this time for good.
Wow! What a beautiful restoration. I think you just gave me a reason to visit Berlin. Thanks for sharing this.
There's so much cool stuff in and around Berlin, I hope you go for more than just the 190 :D
I was in Berlin in February and desperately wanted to see some kind of Wehrmacht museum. I assumed there were none... damn lol
@@visionist7 Go to Dresden to see the Army Museum. They have stuff from hundrets of years. Or go to the German History Museum in Berlin. They have all kinds of uniforms etc.
The Butcher Bird. I always thought this was the best looking fighter of the war. Many thanks from Texas we have the Lone Star Flight Museum here but would love to see this place. Great video as usual Bismarck thanks
Cheers, Gary
An 'Aalkaround' eh? I LOVE it!!
Heh, fixed now

And the Bf109 would be a flying Mercedes with cannons

A magnificent machine, and my favorite aircraft of WW2.
The Würger is my favourite Luftwaffe fighter of WWII. Great video.
I really like the white text you put to note things here and there.
One of my favourite aircraft. I'm so jealous. Thank you for this quick tour!
You're welcome, glad you enjoyed it
Just awesome. I'll refer to this in my next video as it clearly shows some things I'll be talking about, and for which no clear pictures exist, until now!
Hey I was in gatow a few weeks ago It was an amazing trip
First the Greg's Airplanes vid, now this? Very cool. Dr. Tank was a true genius.
Its wondeful yet ı think wings could be little thinner though
@@smyrnamarauder1328 no, then the wings would be too fragile. The spar running through them is nice and thick, made of Dural, and is meant to be nice and tough. Also... wing mounted 20 mm’s...
Thank you. Great restoration job, well done.
Nice preview, can wait for full 1h long version of FW190 A-8 walkaround ;)
Excellent restoration of an FW190 A8. I wish that a D9 variant could be restored and also an FW189.I still have my book on the FW190 written by Heinz Nowarra and between Greg and yourself it's excellent to have these videos.Well Done
The 190D-9 is on her way. Saw her two weeks ago in the restauration shop in Gatow. The engine is looking good, wings are complete, engine radiator is looking like a new one. Around 70% is original, 30% new.
Thank you Henry for the update.
Thank you so much, bismark, fabulous, please keep it going
These were gorgeous, lethal fighters for their time. Refreshing to see the tail finished correctly. Most builders and restorers are too PC to include the swazi.
In Germany, for very obvious reasons, it is highly illegal to openly display the swastika and other symbols of the National Socialist Workers Party (aka The Nazis).
There is, however, very ample room to display swastikas or objects marked with it, especially if the context is clearly historic or non-nazi: A hindu swastika won't get you into trouble, if clearly recognisable as such.
A museum falls under a similar category. So displaying a period correct swastika on equipment marked with it, it is not at all an issue. Goes equally for restorations, where the all markings are restored.
Same rules apply to sufficiently detailed models. The issue of debate is often the level of detail of the rest, justifying the addition of the swastika. Applying a swastika to a paper airplane is on the wrong side of the divide. As always, context is key.
Putting a swastika on the side of your car, however, not only makes you a questionable person, but is definitely illegal.

Fw 190- one of my favorite planes from WWII.
Fantastic restoration ! She’s a real gem ! Thanks for the video !
SO GOOD!!! thanks for the upload!!
Amazing plane ! Thanks Bismarck !
Great video, thanks for posting
So cool, thank you for uploading.
Wow..that’s pristine
What a beautiful plane. Pristine too. Top of the line engineering.
The Fw 190A series struggled above 20,000 ft. So top of the line is ironic. As a low to medium altitude combat aircraft, very good.
Very cool walkaround. Showing the guns etc. Thanks , Tom Daytona Beach, FL. USA.
Such an awesome series of videos. This series really sets your channel apart.
Thanks for doing this, what a beautiful bird!
Wow, so that's how they mount all those guns on the Fw 190. Amazing video as always!
Magnificent aircraft.
Itś been wonderful, the FW190A-8 looks like brand new in pefcet conditios ; well done mate!!!
Great! I can't wait for the cockpit tour video.
Excellent video, beautiful plane.
Awesome condition .. excellent restoration. My favorite WW2 aircraft, especially the D models. I love this series of videos, thank you for your efforts.
Excellent description 👍
I love the Antons and Doras, they are just beautiful and strong!
I work with AH-64E and its weird to see how similar some of the components and general designs are...
Nazis revolutionised engineering, then at the end of the war everyone copied their desings, it's odd how a bad thing like nazi germany gave us a great rolling stone of engineering advancements for the future.
@@paraclinical , the superior German engineering was not an innovation by the political party. They just used the products of the superior engineering.
@@stay_at_home_astronaut Yeah but it was forced by the political party of that time.
There was a higher demand of innovation because of the war.
Greg's airplanes channel shows evidence that a Canadian engineer working in Germany, US, Great Britain used the German He-70 elliptical wing design and a NACA chord to put on the Spitfire.
Thanks for the walkaround, thumbs up, great vid, fw190 one of my favorite fighter plane, l'm glad that the camo scheme is preserved too, like original, congrats!!!
The camo was painted completely new after a long research.
Check out Greg’s Planes and Automobiles channel for his in-depth discussion of the FW-190, as well as many other aircraft. His pieces on cars are great, as well. Deep knowledge, accessibly presented, especially if you have a technical bent.
Liked his channel until he freaked out and attacked me for asking a simple question dude has extremely thin skin
If you don’t mind me asking 4yrs later, what did you ask and what his response?
I love Greg’s channel but I’ve never heard of him clapping back at commenters.
Very nice review on that aircraft.
Beautiful!, absolutely beautiful!!!..
The detail is just unbelievable, what thoroughness in design, brilliant minds at work.
I'd just love to sit down with this chap, over a beer and just discuss milatary aircraft and their history.
Nice job!! Great to have no visitors noise!!
Excellent video
I just built it and I am astonished how Tamiya has got so much detail out off the real thing, amazing aircraft !
Danke..! Love the 190.
A good sneak peek into what I am sure will be a splendid video.
Greg's Airplanes and Automobiles gave you a shout out and provided a link to you. I just subscribed to your channel. Thank you for a detailed look at my favorite WWII fighter. Looking forward to more. Keep up the good work. I am surprised that being in Berlin the swastika was added to the restoration. Regardless of its implications, real or imagined, I happy to see it was added for a full restoration.
What a restoration. Looks like it just came off the production line.
A german restauration by Museum-specialists.
@@dr.wilfriedhitzler1885 Done by Luftwaffe soldiers (really).
Fantastic!
Glorious design, it's easy to not fully appreciate what a 20mm cannon actually is and the lethality of this aircraft, until you are seeing it like this. Thank you
That is the manliest fighter plane!!! it's such a beautiful thing.!
Sehr schön! Ein guter Grund wieder mal in Gatow vorbeizusehen!
Thanks for the heads up, I'll probably pop by there this week.
Absolutely loved the walk around. Don't know if you have talked to Greg's airplanes but he gives a lot of detail about the fw design and pointed out they used push rods instead of cables for extra serviceability. You were able to film that- awesome!
I wish I could afford to restore my old truck like that ! Great video as always .
Ein so schönes Luftfahrzeug, schade dass es kaum noch welche davon gibt. Aber sehr schön restauriert
Great video....awsome machine.
Danke Bismark !!!!
An impressively restored aircraft! Well done! I'll visit the museum during my next Berlin visit.
Thanks for the video.
You can see He-111 (Casa), Fw-190, Me-163 and a wreck of a Bf-108 there. Please also visit the Technikmuseum in Berlin. They have BF-109, Bf-110, Ju-52, a wreck of a Ju-87 and many other aircraft parts and sections there.
@@neinnein9306 Thanks for the travel and museum tips!
So pretty inside,,like old cars from the 70s. Form and function with room for wrenches and hands,,,not all plastic,,I've had many nice old cars,,,but the engine and interior were what my friends wanted to see,,,
Just a glimpse of the A8 but there were still things in this short video I've haven't seen before.
Thanks
Awesome resto job! The aircraft is so clean,it looks like it just came off the assembly line.
That was the idea. Therefore it has no sqadron markings etc.
Very interesting, thank you very much
How beautiful! The plane too
Beautiful exhibit. I would love to visit that museum.
Sturmbock = battering ram, if I recall.
Sturmbock is indeed one of the synonyms for "Rammbock" wich would be the most common translation for battering ram.
"Bock" being the german word for a male goat or sheep (aka a ram).
"Sturm" in the military usage of the word translates to assault. So, "assault ram" would be the most literal translation.
Das ist mal ein schöner Kurzfilm mit eindrücklichen Impressionen. So restauriert also die Bundeswehr. Klasse!
I really enjoyed your video. I am fortunate that here at home in our Military History Museum we also have a FW190 in very good condition. It is usually the first exhibit I go to see whenever I visit. (There is also a Me262 two seater night fighter, with radar antennae in the nose section, apparently the only one left in the world)
Beautiful aircraft in wonderful condition.A very nice walk round.👍
The 190A's could hold their own vs the 47's and 51's. Ultimately it came down to attrition. Had the planes and pilots met on equal terms at 20,000 ft over the western front, the wins and losses would have been much more balanced. Oh, and that 190A-8 is beautiful. :)
Well done!
cheers mate. Regards from Korea always
I got to walk around an Fw 190 D-9 on static display at the National Museum of the United States Air Force in Dayton, Ohio, several years ago. It was a beautiful plane.
Beautiful aircraft
Wow! Thanks!
From Buffalo, New York. Yes sir, I did enjoy it, THANKS.
Super cool, amazing piece of machinery.
Can’t fathom anyone getting in that craft or any craft and flying it into battle. The Intestinal fortitude 💪🦾💪
I didn't think that there would be enough space to be able to crawl into the aft section of the fuselage. Gotta visit this museum myself one day. Keep up the great work. Cheers mate.
They have an FW190 at the Smithsonian in D.C. if you can get your way into a tour of their storage hangars, their collection of rare planes is pretty incredible. Got to spend a whole day going around their shop and storage hangars a few years back.
That was cool!😀
A beautiful Airplane in superb condition! I love the Focke Wulf Design. Great Fighter Plane! Airfield Museum in Berlin Gatow is a great Place for Historical War Fighter Planes Fans. I've visited it for 2 Year's ago. 😃✈👌🏻🚩
+ in the Technikmuseum Berlin they also have BF-109, BF-110, Ju-52, Ju-87 etc.
The reason it looks so pristine is because most of the AC is a replica made by Flugwerk.
This was their first production fuselage and it was used as a static AC using a real 801 and cowl instead of the Russian ASH on the flying replicas
+Michel Lemieux All correct, though it is described as having some parts from W.Nr. 682060. I don't see the W.Nr. painted on it.
Awesome 😎
Absolutely astonishing.
Awesome!
I live in Southern California, and every year in Chino they have probably the largest collection of still FLYING WWII aircraft. Every year or so there’s an FW-190 that flys. Im assuming it’s a replica, but regardless, it’s such a cool and beautiful aircraft. I’ve gone every year for the last 13 years, and it’s just remarkable and an honor to see these pieces of history fly.
+J.A. The Chino Fw-190 is one of the Flugwerk replicas, although when Rudy Frasca was having it built they decided to use an R-2800 for the engine choice.. The slightly larger cowling improved the lines of the aircraft over the Flugwerk cowling design.
Beautiful bird!
I was there last summer and saw this plane. Its awesome to see irl. Can recommend a visit 100%
Are you in contact with Greg's Aviation? He gave u a shout-out on his Ta-152 episode and is currently doing vids on the genius design of the FW-190, which Tank described as being designed to be not a race horse, but a Dienstpferd-workhorse!
You mean the FW-190?
@@mryhdy6266
