  • In this video I share my story of buying my first muscle car when I was 16 years old for $200 dollars! A 1970 Chevy Nova. That was 33 years ago in 1991. I've gathered all my old video and photographs to put together this life long video. There is a lot of information i didn't share just due to the fact that it would take hours to cover everything. There is alot of good friends in this video with some great memories. I was able to edit down to the basics and i hope you enjoy. This video really means a lot to me and I'm excited to show you! Thank You to Tim and Tristan for helping with the video footage and dI Love You All!

    You are so fortunate to have been able to hold onto that Nova! I purchased my first car in 1974 when I was 15, a 1965 Dodge Coronet 500 Convertible with the 383 Cubic Inch V8 and TorqueFlite 727 Transmission -- 335 HP with 3.90 differential. I was its fourth owner and paid $300 two years after its previous owner had installed a new top. I kept that car until 2014 when I had to sell it to pay hospital bills -- i miss that car every day. It was midnight blue with white interior and top. A neighbor purchased it for nearly 20 times what I paid for it and completely restored it.

    My first car was a 2 door hardtop 1963 Chevrolet nova . It was originally a 6 clynder car . But had a 350 4 bolt main Chevrolet engine put in it. I paid 500.00 dollars for it I was a junior in high school.

      Awesome! Just before I got my 70 I helped my friend build his 63 SS Nova. Same, originally 6 cylinder but we put in a 350. One of my favorites!

    * Thankyou Jason for that intro ! Reminded me of my Highschool Days 73 to 75 ! I ran with a few guys and we cruised Woodward and Gratiot here in Detroit on Friday and Saturday night. The most radical car in our group was Carlos' 70 Nova. He crammed a high compression 454 into it with an overly lumpy bumpstick and a tunnelram intake with dual quads. Had a built 400th with a posi 12bolt rear axle with 456 gears. That whip was quick but you couldn't keep u joints in it. There was many nights we had to pull it back home with a strap . It always bent the driveshaft too. I think the drivetrain shop kept extras just for that Novacaine ! Novas were great cause they were lighter then Chevelles and Camaros. You look funny without the beard. No I had a string of 66-70 Mustangs. Even a 67 gt fastback with the dual quad 390 4sp with a locker rearend. That would be worth $ these days. When I went to college my mom had them all hauled away 😳 She didnt know. That junk guy must have been smiling ! I've had my ultimate rod for 22yrs my 47 Merc ProStreet Custom. 1 of a kind. And I still love it . Peace Brother ! 👊😎👍

      @@CountryBoyGasGarage Yeah Jason those were the days ! Carlos' Nova probably kept blowing u joints cause we never thought about frame ties back then. That beast was probably flexing the unit body. My big block stang was a riot melting the tires on though all 4 gears but it oversteered like a Mack truck. Just like the one in the movie Bullit. I even had a 70 Mach in pumpkin orange. With the 351 Cleveland. My favorite was the red 66 fastback gt with the 289 Hi Po 4sp. That one was light quick and nimble and actually cornered pretty well. I smoked many big block mopars , chevys, and fomoco's with it. That's the one I miss most. Sometime I'll give ya the run down on my Merc. It's a true old school all steel custom. It's 90% GM. Only the body and frame rails are left from the Merc. Again, Peace Brother ! 👊😎👍

    Gotta love that metalflake on the Camaro. Your Nova is quite the story. That blown Chevelle brings back memories. Mine had the same stance, wheels and tires, but a 396 4-barrel 4-speed. The hydraulic Cutlass is cool. Lots of great memories. The old Nova still looks great for 33 years of driving!! My old Chevelle was totalled 3 weeks after I sold it in '75....rolled into ditch at 55 mph and hit a concrete retaining wall. Be safe and stay well.

    Jason, I definitely think you should start on bringing the Nova back to her former glory once the '59 El Camino project is completed. That car is worth the time, effort and money! The car is part of your life and heritage as a gear head and is an icon of your original channel. Let's go ! 👍

    Kool video jason, my very first hotrod was actually a souped up 62 choptop bug, it went 12s in the quarter mile. This was back in Hawaii in the early 80s, as a young adult I ended up buying a 68 ss El Camino with a small block 355 gear drive turbo 350 with a stall and 456 gears in back, a year later a friend of mine got T boned at a light bye bye El canomore, then I got a 71 ss nova man I loved that car 350/th350 combo drove the crap out of it, later had to sell it right around 1998 got married and we needed to get our own place. Then we moved to Washington, but that's a whole different story, thanks again for sharing and the idea of RGG, Aloha brother jason

    My first car was a 62 Impala with 70k. It was unfortunately a 283 with PG so pretty gutless. At the time it was getting crusty and wasn't worth spending precious money on at 16. Great high school machine and lots of memories though.

  • @ranflee1
    @ranflee1 Před 7 měsíci +1

    Unfortunately I do not have my first car. It was a 68 Javelin. Only had a 304 but it was worked and held her own on the drag strip (or to the locals, the brick yard.) I had a mechanical failure which caused me to wreck and totaled it. My best friends uncle owned a salvage yard and was able to get it before the police found it. Looking forward to seeing this beauty of yours brought back to former glory. By the way not a super fan of patina. (I think it’s overdone) But it has its place in the hot rod world.
