I am from Ethiopia and happy to see two Africans loving each other. Jackie is very rational and fair which I respect about her. Kish is also a great listener and that is wonderful. Yes, there are people in both Ethiopia and Eritrea who feel they are better than other Africans but the root cause of the view is probably out of ignorance. Educated people in these countries do not share those views. But once you get close to Ethiopians, they are actually very welcoming. When I was in college, I had a Kenyan friend and the Ethiopians around him treated him just as one of us. Another Tanzanian who studied with us slowly warmed towards us and he was even making us ugali on occasions. Enjoy life.

First, Most people in Ethiopia believe that Human beings are social animal, we usually love to interact in different currcumstance especially Holiday, Funeral and weedings.Hence we don't went to miss such a gathering and usually try to avoid culture clashes while doing so. Secondly, we believe that most people love to reflect his or her own culture in any circumstances possible therefore, we always belive and understand that people whom live closer to us had better understanding and respect for our culture, customs, belief and as well as social and moral value of the community. Third, most Habesha belive that we had better culture and costoms of keeping the marriage last longer even in very difficult situation. Finally, there is nothing to do we racism. It is human nature to go and look after more of towards who look alike.

Thanks for this very interesting discussion. Jackie is a very smart, clever and good looking young lady. She has a bright mind and is an open minded person.
It is correct, old fashion and minded people are narrow minded and very traditional and Conservative. It used to be like this for ages, all around the world. In the past people never travelled out of their country even their own region. So they sticked to their own people, religion. The various and many conflicts and wars didn't help 😢 because people were even hating other people looking same but different tribes living in a same country.
I personally noticed here in Europe some racism among some Africans of different nationalities. I won't say in details. That is not the point here. But then in those particular conflitual situations I realised that among themselves there can be some dislike and racism. I also noticed that between some Arabs and some Africans there are some misunderstandings. Not long ago, after the 2nd WW, you would never see German and French mixing or together or marriages. Luckily time has changed. Among ex-Yougoslavien people same situations occur. Of course the religions have also big influence on people's mind.
Nowadays, people in this world 🌎, have to change their minds and become more open minded and try to live peacefully and accept the differences. 🥰

Let me break it down in a more accurate way. In Ethiopia, it's not so much about racism against other Africans; only about 10 to 15% think that way. In Ethiopia, there are 80 different tribes with 80 different languages and cultures. The Oromo, Amhara, and Tigray mostly don't want to marry outside their tribe, let alone marry someone from a different nationality, which includes white people. 80% of the time, it has to do with preserving the culture and heritage rather than with race.

Originally, the indigenous people of Ethiopia were all black. But Ethiopia was once an important slave trade hub for the Arabs. And miscegenation happened between Arab slave traders and their African female slaves. The offspring of this miscegenation were called habesha (half-blood). Of course, Arab men did not want these half-blood children and they abandoned these children in Ethiopia. When the Arabs ended the slave trade of Africans, the habesha took over this business and continued to enslave their own African darker people. This is sad because it is pure self hatred.

As Africans, we are sensitive to racism, but we still have such issues within ourselves. We discriminate others. Colorism is real too. Growing up, I was called a Luo (Nilotic group) for being darker than all my peers. Even my relatives called me Omwafrika (African)! Interestingly, in university, I started aligning myself with Nilotes (Kalenjins and Luos), phenotypically and linguistically I could fit in. Studying intercultural communication, I learnt that discrimination, racism, etc are actually responses which try to protect a group from the "fear of the unknown." It might be a survival instinct.

Especially when you are seeing them the exact same way.
In the past there used to be assimilation. When one marries from outside, that woman is brought fully in and she sheds everything to do with where she came from. But in modern times that doesn't happen. And children will be aware that they are cross-heritage, and not fully one thing.
I personally don't think there is a problem with any of the perspectives. One just needs to know where to be at, if you choose to go cross-cultural.

I also just thought I have a Sudanese friend here in the US and his other Sudanese friend is married to an Ethiopian woman. For me, for all other Africans i have know South Sudanese are some of the most solid Africans to be friends with.
I do not understand how we black people tolerate this colorism nonsense but are agains white racism. The only other observation I have is that Ethiopians are very religious and go to church every weekend so if you were to marry them then there is a lot of differences that have to be ironed out. The girl in the video clearly said Eritreans maybe not all have a word they use for "Africans" in her own words which means they or a significant number of them see themselves as different from other Sub Saharan black people. I do not care if any Ethiopian or Eritrean seems themselves as not black but why create a word that is derogatory against other Africans. In my experience the person who seeks advantage or superiority over another is the one that lacks self esteem. I have never met a Nigerian, or fellow Zimbabwean or other black Africans who lacked self esteem so your assertion is baseless.
For your information, regular African folks go about their daily lives with no care about what goes on outside their own country so really could care less what an Eritrean thinks about them. This guy brought the subject up so everything else is just opinions and not a fighting match.

I'm half Somali (Ajuraan Kenyan) and half Oromo (Borana, with some minor assimilated Amharas).
After traveling back and forth to East Africa over the past five years, and delving into this rabbit hole with my Rwandan and Kenyan friends, I've learned about the old Savannah Nilotic pastoral culture that existed from Egypt as far south as modern-day Zimbabwe. These pastoral people were a mix of non-Africans and non-Arabs, but Eurasian people from the Levant who mixed with a proto-Nilotic sub-Saharan population group in the Horn of Africa, which then gave birth to the Cushites.
You can see elements of these features, DNA ancestry, and rituals, like drinking cow blood and circumcision, across all of East Africa. Maasais and Samburus are on average 40% Cushitic and 60% Nilotic. The same goes for the Datooga, and Samburus can even have higher Cushitic admixture.
Beja, Somalis, Sidama, Oromo, Amhara, Tigray, Saho, Afar, and Gabbra all originated from the same ancient Savannah Nilotic pastoral people that roamed all of East Africa with their cattle. The powerful Hima and Tutsi of Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, Tanzania, and Eastern DRC are on average 70% Cushitic, and most likely experienced a language shift when they assimilated into the agricultural Bantu expansion waves from Central and West Africa.
If you want to see the last remnants of these people before they are totally absorbed and go extinct, visit the Iraqw people in Tanzania, the last remaining Southern Cushites.
Check out Sage Nomad for scientific sources about the origin of the Tutsi Hima and the connection to Ethipian and Somali people.
Also, I forgot to add that the Kikuyu have absorbed some of these extinct Southern Cushite people. However, from my understanding, this absorption was not direct but occurred through some intermixing with the Maasai.

So far, two diasporans Habeshas were trying to date me, southern African man, wasn´t really interested due to circumstaces, both attractive. I tried to date an Ethio woman fresh from Addis. It was an Ethio party, she thought I was Habesha (her friends were from Eritrea), once she learnt I´m continental African, she dropped me like hot potatoes. Fast forward, she learnt form her friend that I run a business and she was suddenly friendly and smiling. Moral of the story?
And by the way, for me East, West, Southern African women are equally attractive on their own right. The hype about Habesha women is just a colorism and whiteness colonial mentality. How I know? Mixed women (black and white) like considered within and outside the african/black community as "attractive", just like dark skinned Habeshas are considered less attractive then their light skinned counterpart. In short, black ppl, not just habeshas, we are in trouble. Love yourself.
Lastly, Bantus like Kish, are actually from Sudan (Nubia) and the Gnome of Ethiopians has been found similarly in Southern Africa as well as in Senegal. Also Oromia language has clear Bantu phonetics, but that´s another story for another day...

That is why thier Govt gets away with treating them so bad because of they know that they have isolated themselves from other Africans. Any African in their right mind can not stand up for them. When they learn to see themselves as Africans and love other Africans and stop calling us names then they will be free from mental slavery from the white man

The fact that even one Kenya tribe (the biggest one) thinks superior to the others is a fact of reality about tribe and cultures. So Eritrean thoughts are not more not less about culture, conservancy and mindset and how to approach things. We have Orthodox Christianity mind set. Our culture and heritage come from there. This makes Eritrea or Ethiopia different from the rest of africa.

Why always black Brothers complaining, that they have the feeling, that our Habesha people dont accept them? Why dont African Woman complain Not to get us handsome Habesha man? It is always the man, who a complaining, because they just want to have fun with our Habesha women. Just few of them like this dud is really for life. Therefore I wish you all the best both of you.
