- Hello from Alaska!
This quick video shares a great day trip ideas
to do in alaska outside of anchorage! It's a non-exhaustive
list because it's rather a good short video about
some ideas of things to do.
First let's start with the biggest must-see if you go to
alaska which it whitter! Accessible only by sea or through
an amazing two mile tunnel, this is a one of a kind city.
And most of it's residents live in one single apartment
building that includes a grocery story, hospital, and post office!
Beautiful views of the port absolutely filled with boats.
Great shops and amazing mountain views!
Second, if you do go to whittier stop by byron glacier
only 7 miles away. It's a flat hike but it's a little ways
back to see the glacier. It feels like an authentic wilderness
hike because the greenery around you is tall, thick, and
who really knows if you pass a bear or moose in there.
not trying to scare you but speaking of scary, let's look
at mudflats! at beluga point! If you come at certain times
you can even see the bore tide in the turnagain arm!
Turnagain Arm has the second largest tidal swing in North America.
It can see tides as large as 40 feet.
The Turnagain Arm Bore Tide is one of the largest in the world and
can climb to 6-10 feet and travels 10-15 miles per hour.
do not walk on the mudflats. they are extremely dangerous
because you can get stuck in the silt and drown. look, don't walk.
I'll put a link in the description to see the bore tide schedule

Ok ok,
Moving to the north side of Anchorage is
eagle river! The river is very alaskan
and is an amazing color! Great pit stop on the
way to the actual eagle river nature center.
one way in and one way out to this nature center with great hikes
and views. Just be careful for bear season because some trails
may be closed!
North again is Mirror Lake! There's also Edmund Lake if you go the other way.
We went to mirror lake and the clouds were amazing and it was a nice
stop to maybe have a picnic here or skip a rock.
Next is a bonus is if you keep going north
you'll pass the Knik Arm and it's just a beautiful drive!
Palmer, Alaska is an interesting place to visit
and id recommend the Palmer visitor center with
a beautiful garden, interesting museum style history pieces inside
and there's complimentary tea!
hey, you stayed until the end of the video so I'll share with
you one of our accidental finds that was well worth a stop!
it was back on the way to whitter
when we saw a big tour bus stopped at a random spot. we stopped
and got to see salmon in a beautiful small river and a bridge.
it was a nice peaceful pitstop.
Thanks for watching and i hope you enjoyed watching this
Alaskan video and gives some ideas of what else to do that's
not in anchorage alaska!
