The Modi Government’s 2024 Lok Sabha election campaign is silent about its handling of the COVID pandemic. It is a quiet admission of its biggest failure. 5,000 Indians died daily during the 2nd wave, in 2021. Many died of oxygen shortage because the government failed to prepare. Super-spreader events like Kumbh mela were held even after scientists had flagged a deadly new virus variant, as COVID-jingoism derailed science. An unplanned lockdown forced lakhs of migrant workers to walk hundreds of kilometers back to their villages. Why is the BJP's COVID failure not a poll issue, asks Rohit Khanna.
