Excellent analysis! The serial is a spectacle -- many things are far removed from reality including delivery of dialogues as you have brilliantly pointed out. Alas the show is meant for today - a time when finer points of Urdu or Rekhta are generally on the decline.

Bohot shukriya. Dar asal Heeramandi me moseeqi(music) aur Jama(dresses) on point hain. Lekin usme urdu pr bilkul zor nahi diya gaya hai. Jo Manisha ki beti ka roll nibhati hain unka character khud ko shayra kehta hai aur talaffuz itna kharab k allah ki panah.
Uske bar-aks Jab aap farida jalal ki dialogue delivery sunti hain to kanon pr zara bhi garan nahi guzarti. Baqi sab k sab lagta hai khud pr zor dekr kuch karna chah rahe hain. Wo jo effortless wali baat hoti hai. Sach kahu 2 episode k baad laga k Tamam Urdu dan is waqt khoon k ansu baha rahe honge. Hum jaise urdu shenas ko jab is qadr takleef hui to unpr kya guzri hogi. 😢

Actors like Tom Alter should have been included in this movie, and am sure he would have been an inspiration for all the actors of the movie.

I 100% agree with majority of your arguments. As a Punjabi whose family has been in UP for long time, Punjabi and Urdu diction were both horrible. I would like to argue one thing. I don't think it is appropriate to say that heeramandi was the epicentre of Urdu. Before the British empire, it was the Sikh empire that was in power. Before Sikh empire, it was Ahmad Shah Abdali and his empire did try to abolish tawaif culture in Punjab. Khalsa Raj led to a revival of the tawaif culture and Ranjit Singh was involved with some of the tawaifs for which he was criticized by the Sikh Supreme Court. Khalsa Raj also didn't promote Urdu. They used farsi in many of the official documents and Punjabi as the common language. It is important to note that a lot of nawabi culture and the promotion of Urdu was mostly in areas such as Awadh and Delhi. Urdu was brought back to Punjab by the British because they constantly promoted the propaganda that Punjabi was the language of the jahil/uneducated/paupers. I think that is what I didn't like about the show as well. The sheer lack of work and research on Lahori culture and heeramandi culture that was done is truly mind boggling considering how expensive this project was.

This was important! Also, Khana, Khatt and many more words were still incorrectly pronounced, which was very annoying.

I think the grandmother didn't say "haya". She said hara naa dey. But I could be wrong. I thought it was cute. She just adored her grandson and saw how outrageously handsome he was.

Aap Urdu k Talafuz se Nakush hai zara Socho kaise Bollywood ne hum South Indian Languages ka itne saalo se Mazaak udaya hai... Shahrukh Khan Jaise Star tak ne Ra-one mein Tamilians ka jo mazaak banaya hai woh tho kissi gustakhi se kam nahi hai

Honestly what did you expect. Their Hindi is horrible. Their English is passable at a best. So obviously, Urdu too will be wrong. It’s a profit based business, where anything will be tweaked or twisted for profits. Why do you think they stereotype everything. Its for profit. Don’t give importance to them or to what they say.

Bohot ghalat baat hai ye. Aapne inki zindagi mein hi post mortem kardala. Hope Sanjay Leela Bhansali is not gunning for you. Just to put a cherry on the cake. Plz hear this famous song which got massacred in the start itself. It's a song by Shreya Ghoshal and Saad Lamjared and is called Gulli Mata. I should join you as i too get shocks when urdu is confused by hindi and then you get raw omelette. Love your work. Stay safe and blessed 💐
