- Certain fanboys claim the old Tatula SV was the best skipping reel ever.. how about the new one?

I love this reel it is my go to, perfect for skipping under lay downs and also for really hard casts very rarely does it blow up
Tackle Tour did a review and comparison between this SV and the old one noting the differences. It won one of their "Editor's Choice Awards."
Thank you for doing this test. Nice video. I just got one of the 2020 SVs, also have one of the 2017s, and am anxious to test the differences - particularly skipping. I am an armature skipper, but actually found it a little easier to skip a heavier bait like a 3/8 or 1/2 oz jig and trailer than just a soft plastic bait.
Keep up the good work!
yamatanuki weightless is a great bait to learn on and skips like a DREAM
I just bought the new version and I really like it. It's very user-friendly. I haven't put much time on the water with it and it's just fantastic so far.
This reel is just awsome. I USE it with Owner Kizuna PE X8 braid, and it just cast like a silent missile.
Will altso not do without the T-wing line guide system.
Andy Montgomery used the old version of this reel for skipping when he was still a Daiwa pro, and he said he set his mag brake at half for skipping, with spool tension such that on lure drop there was just a bit of overrun after the bait hit the water.
ironically Daiwa advises you not to tighten your spool tension up that much
@@THEREELTEST It makes sense. Low spool tension and high brakes mean you don't have to work hard to get it moving (good for control and accuracy and thus skipping), while the brakes keep it from getting out of control after the initial startup.
Here's a tip for beginner or practicing skippers cast about 1/2 distance normal cast and put a peice of painters tape around the spool and reel in ..now if you blow it up it's only about 30-40 yes worth of line
Try using a slightly stiffer rod with a fast action tip, I use to skip with a medium action rod and did pretty good. I then switched to a softer medium/heavy and my skipping improved significantly. Especially with accuracy.
Tatula elite, 7 foot medium heavy. Brent Ehler edition. Best rod I’ve ever used.
Hi Reel Tester, I am a German Guy and love your YT-Channel. I got me the same reel and I am very pleased with it. See your are using Mono on this reel. Maybe you could help me along with a question that bothers me quite a while: While German anglers mostly use braid on their BC reels, most of the US guys use mono or fluro. When asking the German guys ‘Why braid’ everyone answers: better bait control and better hook setting. Why are there so many US guys (and videos) using mono or fluro? And should I give mon/fluro a try? I am fishing nearly 100% onshore. Our main fishes here are Perch, Walleye and Pike. Thx for your help on this.
I use this yellow monofilament because its cheap. I go through alot of line and Im not spending alot of money on expensive line to do these tests. For real fishing I use 100% flourocarbon
The main reason to use fluoro here in the USA is due to the popularity of bass fishing, which means the fish are more difficult to trick because they see so many baits. Another word for it is 'line shy'.... Fluorocarbon is almost invisible, so fish have trouble seeing it. :)
You are definitely the best at what you do on CZcams! Ever thought of doing some comparisons while actually fishing from a boat or shore? Real world results, such as casting into a good wind, in the rain would be enlightening. You could also compare drag, durability, comfort, etc. I'd really be interested in that in addition to your current content. This is in No Way intended to be a smarta** comment! You do a bang-up job on comparisons, upgrades and all the technical aspects! Thanks for doing what you do, it helps a lot of folks out.
Ive done quite a lot of side by side casting comparisons. Usually when a new model replaces an old one to see if there were any improvements
Is this the tatula sv tw with the zero adjuster? It looks like it to me, just making sure.
I've same question...
yes it have
yup
yes this has the zero adjuster
@@THEREELTEST does the slx mgl spool fit in the slx dc? Because in japan there is an slx dc 70
Can you make a video comparison between metanium mgl 2020 vs the new 2021 zillion sv tw.
I have the 200 HSL and it skips better than my SLX DC, just keep an eye on the spool and keep the brakes adjustment on it.
I can skip my max brakes at 8 or 6 i think. With a 1/2oz jighead and just those thumb assist can skip just smooth as it is🔥🔥
You can drastically reduce backlash by lightly resting thumb on spool. So many of your casts your thumb is off of it
I've definitely noticed my tatula sv tw skips better than the scorpion DC and slx 70 dc and slx mgl. Shoot the 19 tatula 100 skips better than the Shimano reels. But I'm far from expert level skipper, ymmv.
Shimano reels can skip just as good as Daiwa reels, check out a channel called MyLureBox.
Def like the new model compared to all my older models. I think the spool tension on the new ones were a little more than that ok 2 of em. Dang near backlash just letting stand 3:8 oz jig with craw trailer
Do you know what the differences in the JDM vs USDM tatula sv tws are? I found the jdm versions way cheaper than the usdm so earlier this year I picked up my first jdm tatula sv tw. I've grown to prefer it over my slx dc's, so much so I picked up 2 more to replace them. I just wish the I-knobs weren't so tiny.
Why review a reel knowing the tension knob could use a little tightening?
Question!
What else do you use Zero-adjuster for if you are not supposed to adjust it?
(I like to tighten it a little bit more than eliminating side to side play... I think the cast feels a bit more smooth and controlled, and the Distance is not affected, On the contrary, a little better with lures around 10-12g.)
You can still adjust it but the knob is hard to turn. Daiwa does not want you to tighten the spool tension so tight that it shortens the casting distance, so they made the zero adjuster. This goes especially for the SV reels which cast shorter already
@@THEREELTEST I bought this reel from academy and I ended up getting the display. I haven’t messed with the spool but there is no side to side play. So that leads me to think it was messed with before. Is that gonna mess the warranty. Would it hurt if I loosened it a little ?
I reckon the Steez CT and the Alphas Air skip even better
What model Diawa Tatula is this please? 103 sv tw ? Thanks.
Yep, 103 Sv tw 103
The lews custom lite is a good skipper. But I just got the new lews sp in and oh man. U talk about skipping. It is unbelievable how easy it is.
I agree, both skip easy.
What is the drag rating? Awesome video! Thanks for sharing.
What is the difference between the tatula sv and the sv tws103? And which is a better skipper tatula or curado dc
Hey what the difference between the tatula sv and prorex sv looking in get one or the other or do you think I get the tatula elite
Hey. What brand and name do you use nylon in your tests?
@@emmpak LOL you think Im buying suffix elite for all these tests?
Its this cheap bass pro shops brand mono that I can buy in bulk for very cheap
Have you skipped with the accurist S3? Looking to buyi 5.
no, why would you buy 5? buy 1 first and see if you like it, then buy 4 more
@@THEREELTEST getting back into fishing and looking for the best $99 reel. The reviews seem to be good, so i wanted to to know if you had reviewed the product before.
Not a subscriber but do have a question. I saw the video on all 3 baitcasters I was considering on purchasing. I did see you pair all 3 with a 6'8"medium power moderate action rod. And on all other videos they talk about medium/heavy power. So would you say a medium power moderate action is best? I'm a strong believer that everyone has an opinion I just want to do one set up for skipping. And don't want to buy rod after rod to find the right one. I do fish in heavy cover and also with lots of over hangs in my area
I chose the rod because I find that its easier to get the release point right with a softer rod. Keep in mind I dont do much skipping and am not an expert at it like the pros are. Those guys can skip with any rod and any reel.
@@THEREELTEST Thank you for the honest answer. I have done ok skipping with a M/H rod using the Shimano SLX. And all thr videos I saw prior to watching your had the baitcaster paired with a M/H. So thanks so much for the clarification and I will give a medium moderate fast rod a go at it. Have a blessed day 🙏
Not sure how I like this new reel. I have the old one and went to the store to palm this one. Didn't like the tensioner knob, it's hard to access it. The old reel just feels better in my hand than this one.
They call it "zero adjuster" because it is not to be adjusted frequently. Is hard to turn it, also...thats intentional
@@slikertube Lol you serious? Don't like that, 2017 model for the win.
yes they designed it that way so you dont over tighten it
What’s the difference between the Tatula sv tw 103 US version vs the Jdm? Is there a difference in main gear material?
yes..
Did you notice that yours was noisy when casting? Or that the retrieve wasn’t smooth? I just got one and it sounds like an engine when I cast and the retrieve isn’t as smooth as some much cheaper Fuegos I’ve used.
1 drop of oil under spool tension cap
Hello sir, I'm new into bfs reels and I'm about to buy my first reel from alipay, if you had to choice which would you take or for under 80usd or what's the best at this moment for the money and performance from Ali? Gh100? Spirit fox? Zephyr? Pw100? Xf50? Or something else?
clamber by fishband
Is the versatility of the Air Brake system the possibility of making a long cast and changing the Dial to make a skinpping?
if you rewatch the video, I was able to go to 10 on the braking and still skip, then make a decent cast without changing the brake.
Mindjárt jön Suri Gábor, aztán leírja, hogy mégse... anyway superb video!
Dude you said you like rainbow colored reel, the chekout the lurestar n9 reel, the paint scheme is similar to a reel that you might have
Can you do a review on the Favorite Soleus reel just wanting to know if there worth the money?
contact Favorite and ask them to send me one
Y are you using 2 hands to cast with
Hi. Can u answer, what the lowest lure weight to tatula 103 for comfortable casting?
4gram and above from daiwa official web
I was testing my new Abu Garcia Ike reel in my backyard using a bass jig just to cast on land and a hawk dove down and tried to grab it but I jerked it back and it barely missed it. Has that ever happened to you while testing all these reels?
no, but Ive had blue heron try to eat rock bass that I was still fighting on several occasions
@@THEREELTEST oh wow
Which bfs reel would you recommend for saltwater?
any of them should work if you rinse them off after use. There are BFS reels made for salt water like the Revo Ultracast BF8 which Ive done a video on
Adjust the tension knob
Do u know why some reels when you burn in a bait the handle/frame will kinda clack?
I’ve only seen this once and it was from the gears being a little stripped on a cheap reel. I would guess a loose handle could cause this as well.
@@golfingandfishingmylifeawa978 ok thank you!
@@golfingandfishingmylifeawa978 ya Caus I got my tatula ct and it makes a little bit of noise when i reel really fast and i didn’t know why
some reels have poor build tolerances
What kind of line are you using and pound test? Thanks!
It's at the beginning of the video
1:28 12lb mono.
Thanks. Oversight on me.
I like your video!
Does the Metanium skips well?
we may have to find out sometime
what is the max drag of this reel?
5kg
Nice vid! I bet if you were on a boat man you could probably skip with ease I was watching Seth Feider kind of skipping kind of doing same cast you use I! use any who he was using a Daiwa elite casting reel 6.3:1 check that video if you get a chance ( 5 reasons Seth feider chooses balsa squarebills for fall wood ) I wanna see what that reel can do I think you’ve done a review on it I went to Academy today to go try to find it no luck ganna have to go to tackle warehouse to find get one
most of the pro anglers can skip in their sleep... I cant lol.. I do have some things planned for the Tatula Elite this spring. Time is always the limiting factor on how fast I can get the tests done
What changed from last gen tatula ?
Everything, completely different platform
watch this video for that czcams.com/video/5JWSurlZhuo/video.html
Shimano wins on distance. Daiwa wins on..... skipping.
could you say "control"?
I dont know about that... there are people skipping Shimano reels a LONG ways...
@@THEREELTEST agreed. Truth be told I use mostly cheap chinese Seaknight reels for 35 bucks.
Train your thumb and you can do anything.
You shoul try ZILLION TW HLC, that would change your mind.
Can you review best reel bc under 100$ - 50$ best of them
Anyone throwing small crankbaits with this reel!? Thanks in advance.
Yes super easy. 10lb flourocarbon, strike king 1.5's rip off this thing. Brake set at 8
You need to raise your rod tip up sooner. Once the bait starts to make the first skip raise the rod tip up.
Cool!
Man my Chinese BC reel did skip for 15m
But the bird nest was incredibly huge
I used Shimano sienna guess what
The smoothes reel I've ever had..
Never bought more expensive reel than that
So when is you face reveal?
Cool
This video is a rerun
no, you just dont see that well apparently
LOL buyers remorse immediately.
if you are talking about the Steez SV? yep, immediate buyers remorse after casting it around. Luckily I didnt pay full price
As soon as you say fanboy i paused and commented and wont watch it. Really looked forward to your comments but see ya
Want a summary of the video? Sometimes it skips and other times it doesn’t. When it backlashes it’s always “user error” or braking system limit. When it skips just fine it’s because of the good control that Daiwa achieved with this reel.
its ok, that still counts as a view lol
I agree calling people fanboys is cliché, but then again he is running the line over the bar instead of under it on a tatula 😂🤣
I'm Alone 😍😥
Why not go fishing?
