    Thank you for doing this test. Nice video. I just got one of the 2020 SVs, also have one of the 2017s, and am anxious to test the differences - particularly skipping. I am an armature skipper, but actually found it a little easier to skip a heavier bait like a 3/8 or 1/2 oz jig and trailer than just a soft plastic bait.
    Keep up the good work!

    Andy Montgomery used the old version of this reel for skipping when he was still a Daiwa pro, and he said he set his mag brake at half for skipping, with spool tension such that on lure drop there was just a bit of overrun after the bait hit the water.

    • @THEREELTEST
      @THEREELTEST  Před 3 lety

      ironically Daiwa advises you not to tighten your spool tension up that much

    • @PythonDad
      @PythonDad Před 3 lety

      @@THEREELTEST It makes sense. Low spool tension and high brakes mean you don't have to work hard to get it moving (good for control and accuracy and thus skipping), while the brakes keep it from getting out of control after the initial startup.

    Try using a slightly stiffer rod with a fast action tip, I use to skip with a medium action rod and did pretty good. I then switched to a softer medium/heavy and my skipping improved significantly. Especially with accuracy.

    Hi Reel Tester, I am a German Guy and love your YT-Channel. I got me the same reel and I am very pleased with it. See your are using Mono on this reel. Maybe you could help me along with a question that bothers me quite a while: While German anglers mostly use braid on their BC reels, most of the US guys use mono or fluro. When asking the German guys ‘Why braid’ everyone answers: better bait control and better hook setting. Why are there so many US guys (and videos) using mono or fluro? And should I give mon/fluro a try? I am fishing nearly 100% onshore. Our main fishes here are Perch, Walleye and Pike. Thx for your help on this.

      I use this yellow monofilament because its cheap. I go through alot of line and Im not spending alot of money on expensive line to do these tests. For real fishing I use 100% flourocarbon

    • @randomschmo5778
      @randomschmo5778 Před 2 lety

      The main reason to use fluoro here in the USA is due to the popularity of bass fishing, which means the fish are more difficult to trick because they see so many baits. Another word for it is 'line shy'.... Fluorocarbon is almost invisible, so fish have trouble seeing it. :)

    You are definitely the best at what you do on CZcams! Ever thought of doing some comparisons while actually fishing from a boat or shore? Real world results, such as casting into a good wind, in the rain would be enlightening. You could also compare drag, durability, comfort, etc. I'd really be interested in that in addition to your current content. This is in No Way intended to be a smarta** comment! You do a bang-up job on comparisons, upgrades and all the technical aspects! Thanks for doing what you do, it helps a lot of folks out.

  • @andersbomortensen757
    @andersbomortensen757 Před 3 lety

    Question!
    What else do you use Zero-adjuster for if you are not supposed to adjust it?
    (I like to tighten it a little bit more than eliminating side to side play... I think the cast feels a bit more smooth and controlled, and the Distance is not affected, On the contrary, a little better with lures around 10-12g.)

    • @THEREELTEST
      @THEREELTEST  Před 3 lety

      You can still adjust it but the knob is hard to turn. Daiwa does not want you to tighten the spool tension so tight that it shortens the casting distance, so they made the zero adjuster. This goes especially for the SV reels which cast shorter already

And on all other videos they talk about medium/heavy power. So would you say a medium power moderate action is best? I'm a strong believer that everyone has an opinion I just want to do one set up for skipping. And don't want to buy rod after rod to find the right one. I do fish in heavy cover and also with lots of over hangs in my area
